Long Time Gone (Test Scene)
Conner Kent walks into Titans' Tower with his duffel bag, finally unable to stay to himself in Smallville anymore. Clark hasn't been home in months and the things going on the world are getting to him. The Justice League has been out of commission for years and he's been wallowing in self-pity and doubt for longer than he cares to think about. The world isn't getting any safer with everyone pulling in different directions...and Conner himself has recently seen the results of what will happen if things don't change.

"Bart? Tim? Is anyone here?" he calls out, hoping he didn't make this trip for nothing.

No, he didn't. If they aren't here, he'll just have to find everyone and bring them back.

	"Glad to hear it." Conner smiles. A part of him wants to ask Mia if she's heard from Cassie, but he decides against it. That part of his life is over, even if he does still care about Cassie. Conner's expression falters momentarily at the mention of Cassie Sandsmark. They broke up not long ago, after he returned home from where he was and it was a messy breakup.

It didn't mean he didn't care about her, but he was pretty sure Cassie wouldn't want to see him right now, even if he knew that coming here had better than good chance of achieving just that.

Conner gets the smile back on his face and pushes his feelings down. Time to soldier on.

"That's cool. I need to catch up with Tim anyway, so maybe I'll head to Gotham next." Conner says.

"I thought I could just be a regular guy, Mia. Things in Smallville are great. My life is structured; I have a daily routine and it works." he says, turning to look out of the nearest window.

"But...the Justice League is gone. Things are getting worse in a lot of places and I can't say that I've been completely inactive over in Smallville. They call their new urban legend 'The Blur'. I really hate that, but I can't risk anyone seeing my face and tracing it back to the Kents." he says.

"And yes, I missed you guys, too. Titan movie nights are great." he grins.

Conner sighed. It wouldn't do any good to talk about it, even though it was eating him alive inside to be without her. Especially when he knew that, in the end, she would die because of him.

"There's not much to say, Mia. Cassie and I are just too different and things weren't going to work. She...didn't take it well." he says.

"No helping it, though, right?" he asks, shrugging rhetorically.

/That/ got a laugh out of Conner. Tim is his best friend, but yes, he can be just as dour as his senior partner in crime-fighting.

He really didn't know that Mia could be so funny. She was certainly different from how he originally thought of her, which wasn't bad just...more indifferent than anything.

Conner liked to think he took after Clark, mostly, though he still had a long way to go before he'd ever be the kind of man that Superman is.

"Mia, if I didn't know better, I'd think there was something you aren't saying. I won't push, but...if you can't talk to me about it, I hope you'll talk to someone." Conner says.

Mia sighed. Her teammates knew about her being HIV positive and her past (well, most of it, she may have left out a couple of details), but she got the feeling that they thought that something was "bothering her" a lot, it seemed. Not that she minded it too much. She'd never really had friends to care about her before.

"I'm fine Conner," she said, smiling at him. "Promise."

"Yeah, that's what Superman told me once. I guess I just wish I could have waited a bit longer before I had to start making those tough choices." Conner says.

"So, do you want to do something this week? Like, outside the Tower? You're the only other person I can really ask, since Tim's away and Bart's attention span makes such things prohibitive." he says.

Then he realizes how that probably sounds.

"Not that I wouldn't hang out with you anyway, Mia. I just mean...you're trying to be normal and so am I, right? Let's try that together." he suggests.

Good job, Conner. Of course she'll hang out with you now that you've implied she's the only person you can ask because everyone else is gone.

He would like to fly to anywhere but here right now.
