Izuna Uchiha [Part 03]

This is where the two of them embarked on their own separate journeys in life. He continued to be home schooled until he was ready to attend one of the local Private Schools for the snobbishly rich, facing the same hostility from the other students when he arrived. While his looks hasn't reached the feminine peak by the time he started, he was still considered an outsider, taunted with stereotypical jokes about his race. The insults never really bothered him as much as they were just annoying, waiting for them to get bored and move onto the next victim. When he ran away the first time, it was not because of troubles at school or at home, it was simply that he desperately missed his brother. Izuna never expected them to catch him as quickly as they did, hoping it would be a good week before they noticed he was missing. They must have had GPS installed somewhere on his body or something because within a day, there was one of their assistants picking him up from a bus station or the airport. Even hitchhiking didn't get him far as they got him doing that as well. That was the only time he could remember his father addressing him directly, threatening to severe all contact that he had with Madara if he didn't learn his place. That quickly put him back in his place, agreeing that he wouldn't do it again. Promised even.

Contact with Madara was all he cared about, what kept him going through without having his best friend close by. Since the day he had left, the two were exchanging letters frequently. It was just your usual stuff about what sucked, what didn't. Nothing out of the ordinary at all. That was until the day he received that letter. What he was telling him, Izuna didn't fully understand but he knew what he was talking about. Just a year shy of breaking into the teenage years, he shouldn't have known anything about these vulgar words that were used but Americans were much more open about talking about sex, overhearing the Seniors and others his age talking about it. Usually he would shut himself off to it and focus on something else except the same word his brother had used came up a few times in conversations so he listened in harder. A whore. Someone who multiple sexual partners for money. His brother had become that. He wished he could have answered him sooner but the shock hit him pretty hard, not knowing what he could say to something like that. Almost a month later he had wrote his reply, no big long letter like he had been used to sending to him, just a single line to let him know what his felt about the confession.

"You're my brother, and I love you no matter what you are."

Then a second letter the day later with another single line of "PS. I won't tell Dad."

Madara would never have turned his back on him so Izuna was not going to turn him away when he needed it. It was decided that he had to get him out of that school, no matter what. Screw the repercussions. This time he was much older and wiser, and with the help of Madara, they formulated a plot to break him out. So there would be no funds touched from their accounts, Madara sent him money that he made from his... extra curricular activities in small amounts so it would go through undetected. Using this money, he would be able to sneak his way out without leaving a trail to be traced, getting to the school before anyone could notice him gone and then the breakout mission would be complete. There was no talk about what they were going to do after that, that was a minor detail they had to work out. Gradually the funds built up, coming closer to the marked date for Izuna to make his move when he got another letter. This one didn't contain money. Another confession but this was not what Madara had done but what was done to him. It was a risk to run off now but there was no time to waste, getting onto the first bus that he could get, this time successfully making it to the boarding school but the damage was done.

If he could have got there sooner, this might not have happened. They could have ran away and left it all behind, and there was nothing that Izuna could do to make it right for him. Just has Madara had been there for him through his younger days, Izuna was there for him now, being strong, being there for him. But that was not going to be enough. There was a particular object that they had to get their hands on to make all of it go away and together, they had to devise a plan.

Since he wasn't allowed to be there on campus with him, Izuna had to hide out most of the day, thinking up ways to sneak in and get back the evidence against Madara from that night. A few ideas were tossed around and refined, a bit of investigation to find the best way to go about it and then the final plan was initiated. They should have destroyed the tape as soon as they got it, left under his brother's guard where he expected him to do it. A memory like that wasn't something that you would want to keep around. He was going to offer to do it for him but his own absence finally went noticed. A note saying you had gone away for a school camping trip wasn't exactly going to work for too long when your school didn't have camping trips, taking longer than he thought but he hoped that it might have been his father who would come storming to the school to collect him. He was not at all that lucky. Just another hired help took him back, an voicemail message left for him to replay when they got him back was from him though, reminding him the importance of Madara being there and that if he tried to do anything like that again, then all communication would be severed. That kept him in his place, quietly sinking into the background again, making sure he didn't cause any more trouble for the family. It was only a short while to wait until Madara graduated anyway.

Things didn't get any better.

Many nights he would go into his brother's room and not find him there, staying up worried that something had happened to him when calls went unanswered, only to see him crawling into bed in the early hours of the morning. At first, he thought that he had a girlfriend that wouldn't be approved by the family. Late nights were just the beginning, next finding him with his face in the toilet almost at the brink of passing out. Night after night this repeated, Izuna spending many of them close to Madara's side rubbing his back while he got rid of the poisons in his system while multitasking with his books over on the other side on the ground so he could catch up on study. Whenever someone became suspicious, he was there to quickly make up a white lie to his older brother's whereabouts. Work played off as a good one, pulling overtime. It was only going to be a matter of time before someone checked up on the stories and found out they were fake. By this point, Izuna was getting pretty good at lying. He could have kept it going on forever if needed, but that was not going to be necessary.

When you hear that your parents have been killed by pirates, what would your first reaction be? Laugh? Poke fun at the weak jokes made? Just huff and brush it off? Izuna was more than prepared to do one of those things until it was confirmed to be the truth. Pirates had killed their parents. Everything moved so quickly from that point, nothing seemed real at all, remembering standing in front of their coffins as they were lowered into the ground. They were not ever going to win any awards for their parenting skills, not the most affectionate people in the world. Izuna couldn't even remember their faces clearly from the minimal time he had spent them with but he was still their child, they were still his parents. As much as he wanted to stand up and show them as they were put to rest that he was strong, the tears still came. Madara was the only one he had left now.

The inheritance given to him a good while after all the paperwork had been cleared wasn't exactly in his favor at all. In fact, it was down right eccentric. A quarter of the pool? The dining room table? He knew that they always favored Madara but did they really hate him that much? Madara's portion was getting drunken and partied away which worried him more especially when he received his acceptance letter into an Ivy League school on the other side of the country. Many times he had decided to decline the offer and stay around to make sure his brother was not going to do something stupid, not that Madara would but accidents happened. If something happened to him, then there would be no one. At the same time, if he had given up the chance to go and study in a top school in a field that he wanted to go into, then he would have been killed for it, or Madara would have stuffed him in the car and drove him out there personally which frightened him more. Madara was a terrible driver. As much as it pained him to do it, Izuna accepted the offer and embarked on his long four year journey in a place known as college.

Izuna didn't have any interest in going into the business field. All throughout his childhood, he wanted to be a fire fighter. A plain basic boring job that could potentially get you killed but that aside, it was a generic person's job. He would have failed at it anyway, fire was too tempting to look at rather than fight off, so the next obvious choice to go into that held his interest was Law. When you have lied about a lot of things and gotten away with it in the purpose to cover up the truth, it seemed only natural to head in that direction.

So, his college days... not much to tell. No scandal, mystery, wild tales of sex and drunken disorderly conduct with the exception of a some wild nights of swinging around a street pole thinking he was a stripper after one drink too many. It was the perfect time to exploit and let go, but he chose to study and get good grades. At one point he thought that he might have had a stalker, you know that creepy feeling you get when you think you are being watched but when you turn around, nothing is there. That one. Nothing else came out of it anyway, either they worked out how boring he was and moved on, or there wasn't any one to begin with so that problem was solved fairly quickly. Four years of that and it was done. Yay. He really did not have a life at all.

Now that university was behind him, the need to return home immediately hit him. Maybe he should have gave Madara some pre-warning that he would be on his way back, thinking that he would surprise him. It wasn't his brother that would get the surprise but Izuna instead, coming back to his brother... and one other person. Somewhere in the four years that he had been gone, his brother had picked himself up a child... a teenage child to be more precise. A very frail looking and highly timid teenager. After doing the maths which was easily counted on his fingers, Madara would have been ten - eleven years old when his child was born so an offspring wasn't going to fit into that timeline. Looking back, Izuna wished he was sitting down when the information overload got dumped on him. The kid's name was Itachi, Itachi Uchiha. While this didn't seem exactly relevant except they carries the same last name, then came bombshell number two. Their promiscuous father was active in his younger days as much as he was in his older ones when he picked up their much younger mother, so as a result, they had a half brother. Okay, so he had a nephew that was in America, a long lost half brother and somehow Madara neglected to tell him this while he was away? And if that wasn't enough, the half brother, Fugaku Uchiha and his wife Mikoto are dead. Itachi was originally in this country illegally after being brought in for the purpose of child labor which set off so many legal bells in his newly learned head. Oh also, the nephew was technically his son. Well, Madara's son. Which means he was just a uncle again but not to a mysterious brother but his old full blood related one. In other words, his older brother had adopted him. Now lets add surprise three and four at there to round it off. Madara had picked up himself up a play toy named Hashirama Senju and he had also sold their father's company which ultimately lead him to start up a adult movie company.

Boy, had he missed out on a lot of things. It was only four years.

So when Madara asked him to work with him at his company, there was real thought needed to be put into it. When he had finished going over all the pros and cons of it all, Izuna agreed that he would do it but was expecting to be put into a salary position as a common worker would be. He wasn't at all expecting to be appointed the Chief
Legal Officer. To get that position, you had to have many, many years of experience as well as other skills which being fresh out of studies, Izuna did not have. He did have one thing going for him and that was the dire need to protect his family and anything involving it, so he accepted the position.

He had no idea what the previous legal team were doing -- if there was any at all, but Izuna was swapped with instant paperwork, legal threats, court cases, everything needed to throw him into the deep end to see if he would sink or swim. Going from theory and sitting in on trials so quickly threw him around, going in head first tackling everything he could to show his brother that he hadn't made a mistake in choosing him for such a high position. He trusted that Madara wouldn't have said yes to it if he didn't believe he was qualified enough, only a short matter of time before he was well on top of everything but it was taking a toll on him.

Between juggling company affairs and more personal ones including Madara's uncanny knack of being photographed with his pants around his ankles, Izuna was rushed off his feet. Most of the nights he would spend at the office sleeping. Once he slept there for a month straight after the new influx of employees and most of them weren't even legal which had him out and about, digging up pasts and presents to be 100% sure that it would not come back to damage them in the future. Without a social outlet of friends to go out and have a few drinks to unwind, there was no way to release the tension that continued to build. It was good to know that his brother still was looking out for him, spotting the problem before it got too bad, telling him to take the break. Adolescent troubles to confessions of boarding school, hiding secrets from the family and receiving a new one, Izuna hadn't go the chance just to relax and just enjoy life for a while.

After tossing around a couple of ideas, it was suggested that he went back to Japan for a holiday so he could remember what the country was like, do the tourist thing by visiting where they used to live. Through a couple of contacts and calling around, he was able to pick up a job while he was there, working in the legal offices for a member of the diet. This was supposed to be a chance to unwind but Izuna would have went crazy over there if he was just snapping pictures of buildings. Working for a Parliament member would be the big test for him, putting himself under more pressure given the status of the person he was representing but if he could do that successfully, then he could be assured that he was not going to screw anything up for his brother.

Six months later and suffering from extreme home sickness, as busy as his time away was and not really a holiday, Izuna was ready to come back. Now if only he knew what was was awaiting him when he got back.

Personality, Likes & Dislikes:

Sometimes it is a wonder if Izuna and Madara are really brothers since they are completely the opposite. He is not at all outgoing and brash, mostly introverted, tending to blend into the background rather than stand out in a crowd of people. Making friends isn't easy for him which is why he classes his brother as his best friend, not because he understands him but since in their own strange way, they compliment each other. Izuna isn't closed off to the idea of meeting new people, just that he doesn't have much of a chance. When you do get to know him, he is light-hearted and kind, someone you can confide in and that will genuinely listen to what you are saying.

But don't mistake him for a normal person. He was born a rich kid after all. Izuna can't cook for himself at all, he only drives himself around because he thinks the drive is a good wake up for him after falling asleep one too many times being chauffeured around. He can not stand germs and will only use his own private bathroom near his office which is locked and only he holds the key so don't think you can use it freely. Public toilets are completely out of the question. The public pool worries him, adults are just as bad as peeing in the pool as kids are but then again, his home pool has had lewd acts conducted in it. There was to be some kind of leeway there. Insider tip is that he is not a morning person, terrible at waking up. If he can catch in some more sleep for another five minutes then he is going to try it, and if he is awake, he looks like the living dead for a good hour. If you want to get anything out of Izuna or ask a favor of him, do it when he has just woken up because he will agreed to almost anything.

When Izuna is working, he is as solid and stable as they come. He is dedicated to his job and doesn't like to slack off at all, spending a lot of nights at the office working on a large case or trying to dig up information on someone which means if you decide to come and crash his office in the early hours of the morning, there is a high chance you will catch him out with a piece of paper stuck to his cheek by drool. He will do anything to ensure the success of the company and protect it from any legal threats so no matter who you are, he will find some kind of way to get you out of it just so the brand can maintain face to the public. Sometimes his methods aren't exactly the right way to go about it but as his job title states: "but their skill level should not be limited to the law." Maybe he took that too literally instead of seeing it that his skills should be broader to include other skills such as compliance and risk management. If there is a way to get out of something, Izuna will find it even if it is making sure the blame is placed onto someone else. He is an Uchiha after all, they aren't always so innocent and wholesome and can be downright ruthless.

Family... lets not talk about that. In record time, he can change from a professional visage to a bashful, whimpering girl within a few words. Mostly his brother's influence. Madara's own terms of affection involved picking on him, pointing out flaws, doing whatever possible just to get him to react to it. It's not exactly bullying per say, just a different show of affection that most people would be used to. And Izuna plays into it every time. It does frustrate him at times, mainly because it feels that his brother still treats him like a child. He knows its because he cares.

He does fall into the motherly type perfectly when it comes the ones he loves, fussing over every little thing just to make sure that they are safe and protected. He is the type to yell at one when things get out of control and then pull you in for a big hug and tell you that he is sorry for it. That's if he does yell at you, and if he did, it would have to be something that has really pushed him over the edge. He doesn't like placing one person over another, knowing what its like to be treated as the lesser one and takes on the concept that everyone is innocent until proven guilty. Just make sure he doesn't prove that you are or you will face mama's scowl.

The one thing to remember is that he is an Uchiha and when with them, you are going to be facing one side or the other of emotional extremes. His side is keeping his feelings locked away, good at twisting suspicion around by manipulating the truth and giving a bit of misdirection. If you ask him directly if anything is the matter, he will tell you no straight away, blame it on something else or just not being read correctly. They are always hard to read, you get that problem with all of them.

Sharing information about himself isn't something Izuna likes to do. He is a very private person that likes to keep business and personal apart. The only time that he expresses all of his feelings, emotions, thoughts, is in a journal that is handwritten. Yes like a teenage girl. He has been doing it well back into his childhood years and they are all written in Japanese, also hidden under heavy guarded lock in case they are found. Every family scandal and personal thought is within these books which is dangerous and he knows it. One day he will shred them, burn the scraps and then dump them out at sea so they can never be read. He is just not ready to get rid of them just yet.

Other little quirks he has is that he still attends his parents grave four times a year, the other on their anniversary of their passing, on each one of their birthday and on their wedding anniversary. He is short sighted so he needs to wear glasses when he is working. As much as he would like to pass them off as a fashion statement to make him look good, he does unfortunately need them. In his younger years, Izuna was a keen baseball player since his schooling was next to normal. If he really wanted to, he could have tried at a professional level (not that he had any intentions at all) but he wasn't going to have that chance after he tore his ACL. As far as people who cared to ask know, he came down the wrong way after a long jump attempt in sports class but really, he was running to get to a class and was tripped intentionally and it tore when he hopped, skipped and jumped to get his footing back. Almost a year of rehab and surgery to get it in nice happy order again, in the winter time it gets stiff so he likes to make sure of the swimming pool in the building when he is away from home and the masseurs. They aren't as professional as someone he would go to normally but it takes the edge off.

Sample Post:

First Person

xx November 2009

This is the last few minutes I spend in Japan, waiting for the plane to taxi out and take off for my 22 hour flight back home. Almost the last few minutes in Japan. There is a stop over at Tokyo for an hour before we leave again, then onto San Fransisco if I wanted to get really technical about it. But I don't. This entry I want to reflect back on my time here and what is waiting for me back home.

I'm going to miss Japan in its own way. There is a much friendly environment as a whole and politeness, I had forgotten what it was like to have someone humbly bow at you whenever you meet. I still remember the first time I had to shake hands with a client. Just thought of them going to the bathroom and not washing their hands, then shaking mine was disgusting. Anyway, that aside, I feel that what I have picked up here is going to help aniki more when I get back. Well, almost everything.

There are a couple of things that I don't know if I should bring up or not. I think its better just to pretend for the sake of his happiness than to drag up something that could potentially hurt him. Just a couple more minutes until we leave. Maybe I can leave that part behind as well. Going back to America and back to my life, work, family. What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, right? So perhaps I should take this mentality for here as well. What happened in Japan should stay there, buried.

The plane is starting to take off and the air hosts are telling us to put our stuff away now so I better finish this off. Aniki, Itachi. I will be home soon. I miss you both so very much and hope nothing has burned down, blown up and so forth. I hope life will be exactly the same when I get back.

Maybe I should have called ahead first.

Third Person

Every morning, the same thing. Dragging himself out of the warm bed was one of the hardest things to do, dragging his feet across the floor of his bedroom and into the shower took so much effort. Most of the time in the shower was spend slumped against the wall, finding it too much of an effort to even reach out for the liquid soap and splurt it onto the loofer. What was it they said that caused people to act like this in the morning? Low Blood Pressure? That sounded like a perfect excuse for Izuna, blaming it on that poor excuse instead of just admitting the truth. He was just not a morning person.

Dressed. Downstairs. Still not awake. Breakfast should wake him up enough, only that most mornings were spent on the run, grabbing a prepared meal from the cook that could be eaten with one hand, the coffee that his nephew... son... family member had made for him, already prepared in his therma mug. There was no time at all to sit back and just relax, enjoying breakfast is what the unemployed people did. Eating on the run Izuna was accustomed to, juggling the bacon and egg wrap, mug and straw for drinking with ease, and to top it off, his briefcase under the arm to add that extra element of hardness to it. Oh, keys. Car keys. He could have been born into the circus, performing the steadying balance act with eat to get them out, into the door and then start his car up for that drive into work.

They had a personal driver that Madara abused, being chauffeured around sounded great, until you fell asleep in the backseat and weren't woken up to go inside the building. Driving was supposed to be a good remedy for the bad at waking up person, stuck in traffic would put anyone on edge from the constant braking and moving forward a couple of feet, maniacs that had the bright idea that they could cut ahead. A wide yawn said otherwise in the case of Izuna, stuck waiting for it to clean up, rubbing his eyes to fight off the daze. One day he was going to wrap his car around a pole just like his brother had done on more than one occasion. That would have been an interesting one to clean up, the amazing stories he would have to come up with to tell the Police on why he had slammed into a light post and continued to sleep against the airbag.

Only a few stragglers were around on the ground floor by the time he arrived, the building not yet alive with office workers and those who were, crowded around the cafe to get their own early morning fix. The perfect chance to slip by unnoticed and into the elevator, the button pushed to go up to the top floor where his office awaited him. welcomed by the sounds of complete silence when the doors opened. The voice inside his head whined that he didn't want to go to work today, trying to bribe him with anything and everything to turn right around and go back home. Izuna wasn't going to give into them at all, feeding the brain a bit more coffee while he went to his desk and sat down, greeted by a pile of newspapers and magazines in front of him.

The morning treat, scouring the scandal magazines for any gossip on what might have gone down in the night time hours when he couldn't patrol them. Loud sounds of slurping and sucking for that last drop came from the cup that was now empty, trying to distract him from the routine with his call for a refill. He had an assistant that could easily prove themselves to be efficient and adjust to the way his morning worked, but of course what fun would that be? He was going to have to wait until he had scouted out any potential messes to clean up.

One after another, he search through. So far everything was quiet on the home front. Not even a drunken disorderly spotted or random paparazzi shots in any of the pages. This was certainly a much different day that he was used to, usually coming to meet with one of the people on payroll on front page or worse, his brother's backside which had happened on more than one occasion. The stack was almost finished and still nothing. This was great. Maybe he would be able to just put his head down on the desk and get a quick nap before everyone else started arriving and... his finger pressed the button on the telephone, picking up the handset ready for the assistant's voicemail. "Make sure they are brought into the office as soon as they walk through the doors," he told the machine in the most professional tone, hanging up straight afterward with a sigh and a slump down in his chair.

Goodbye catch up nap. He really wasn't a morning person.
