1. The first meetings were relatively neutral. After some of the things that had happened in the past, Michael wasn't especially interested in being studied, and he'd seen some of Ty's work on other matters, so he kept his distance... and Ty is not the most outgoing of people. It wasn't dislike so much as general disinterest.
2. The disinterest ended the first time when Ty grew to 50' tall and began emitting high radiation and flooding local waterways with toxins when disaster struck and he manifested Chemo. Michael was one of the few able to get close enough to help minimize the damage. Things returned more or less to normal thereafter, but Michael, for a while, took Ty as dangerous - and didn't get a lot of disagreement from Ty.
3. Ty had a chance to return the favor after Pippi was able to emergency heal the matrix, but Ty was able to help with the long term stabilization and research.
4. With no obvious way to stabilize Ty's abilities long term, Michael started working with him on finer control over elemental and transmutation powers for easier use in the field.
5. The two of them have never become friends, precisely, with their recreational interests being somewhat far apart, but they are willing co-workers and associates who correspond regularly, over both Ty's attempts at greater control of his powers, even minimal, and understanding the full nature of the Firestorm matrix and its long term stability.
