"Don't even laugh. I didn't pick it, do you think I'd pick this?" Tatum replied defensively, picking idly at the fabric bow on the waist of her dress with some mild disdain. "Frankie seems to like it though. I hope. Or I think. She seems like she thinks it's cute," she added quickly, trying to bring some semblance of good cheer to her situation. "And she didn't make fun of my sneakers either."
Reaching into the small purse hanging at her side, she fished out her iPhone, handing it over to Sera. "We can take it with this, it's all I brought with me. I used it already tonight, it's taking pretty good shots in night vision?" she offered, shrugging a little. "I figured he won't believe I came otherwise, and I'll have to listen to like.. months of you-should-get-out-once-in-a-while lectures," she explained, sighing as she tucked some hair out of her eyes. It was had to explain to her parents that she did go out all of the time! Out of her room, three feet down the hall, and into Frankie's room. It was still out, technically speaking.
Trailing off a bit, Tatum glanced around them a bit, realizing that she was surprised that Sera seemed mostly by herself tonight. Out of the two of them, Sera definitely had the more social streak, and even when she wasn't striking up debates and conversations at random, she usually at least had Meka or Jenny with her. "Where are your friends at?" she asked, raising an eyebrow.

So much as she wanted to ignore how clearly downtrodden her sister was, so much as she wanted to avoid the awkward discussion, Tatum found she couldn't do it. She had time to kill, and Sera needed her time. Even if she wouldn't admit it; the brunette had gotten far too used to playing the older sister all of these years, but Tatum felt that perhaps her turn at that role was now closer than ever before.
"Not with you," the older girl echoed, glancing out into the crowd, squinting a bit. "Much to your dismay, it sounds like?" she added cautiously, glancing back to Sera now, frowning.

"Your-- what, really?" Tatum replied, her brow furrowing a bit. That made a little more sense. Sera had been a little weird since summer, ever since Jenny had come to visit. She almost kicked herself for not putting two-and-two together sooner. Too much weed.
"I take it that she, uhm.. wasn't really receptive to the whole idea, then?" she asked, looking to Sera with a somewhat sympathetic look. She understood where her sister was coming from. Before Frankie, she had never asked a girl out, but she understood the anxiety. And the crush on rejection. It had to sting. And she didn't know Jenny very well, but she definitely didn't seem to be giving off much in the way of gaydar vibes. "The cutest girls are usually straight," she added quietly. It was the closest thing to relationship advice she had ever given her sister.
