Charlie/Jenny

Jenny was, if nothing else, glad for the distraction of the dance. Things had been way too tense since Halloween, and the more she thought about the things she was hearing, the less she wanted to hear. With Christmas time fast approaching, getting through the Snowflake Ball just meant they were another night closer to getting home for the holidays. She couldn't wait to be at home, sleeping in her own bunk bed, and away from whatever was going down on campus.

Especially with the way Ella had been reacting to it all. Seeing her sister in any kind of distress was distressing for Jenny herself, and if home made that better, she'd volunteer to stay there until it was all better. No matter how long it took. Home would be better, happier, even if they wouldn't be able to talk to their parents about what was going on; in addition to being completely too muggle to comprehend most of it, Paula and Ron would almost definitely panic if they heard half of the rumors floating around Crescent City recently.

Tonight though, she didn't want to think about that, she just wanted to enjoy herself. She had thrown something together to wear, and she was off to the dance. She had already spent a majority of her evening moving from crowd to crowd, meeting people and chatting here and there, dancing a few different times. It was coming back from a dance with a friend from choir, that Jenny noticed Charlie.

Predictable, she thought idly. Everything from the slumping leaning on the wall, to the look on his face, was predictable. And as usual, it made her smile. Approaching him from his left, the blonde weaved in between a small crowd of sophomores, before coming close enough to land a playful whack on his shoulders. "What's up, crankyface?"

Charlie frowned a little at the punch and shrugged his shoulders moodily. "Just hanging around" he answered her, ruffling his hair as he always did.

"I hate wearing shirts" he added.

"What else is new?" Jenny replied, smiling crookedly at him. Dressing up had never been his idea of a good time, and she almost couldn't believe that he still forced himself to come to things like these. His expression often made him look like he was getting the Chinese water torture instead of just hanging out at a ball. "At least your mum will be happy, right?" she offered.

Charlie grinned and relaxed his shoulders. "Oh yeah, someone will have to be the favourite son this Christmas, and it's not going to be Adam." He gave Jenny a sly once over and leaned closer to her ear. "It'll make her even happier if we get a photo together or something. You know she loves you."

Charlie/Jenny

"I'm sure that Adam will be green with envy when he sees how cleaned up you looked," Jenny agreed, grinning right back at him. When he leaned over, she listened, before her grin widened slightly. "Photo, really? I guess I could do that much for you. And it's not like I'd be ashamed to say you're my date in that shirt," she teased.

Her phone was in the purse she had brought, and within a couple of seconds, she had pulled it out. "This is all I have with me though. I can email it to you?"

Charlie/Jenny

"Yeah, he always gets angry that I look better in his clothes than he does. Look at this crease" he said, showing her the sleeve of this shirt which had a crisp crease going down it. "The army taught him that, I guess. It makes it even more uncomfortable."

He stooped down to a more acceptable level when she got her phone out, smiling happily. "You're a diamond."

Charlie/Jenny

"You think he'll be mad if you muss up his crease? Cause if I drag you away from this wall, it's bound to happen," the blonde teased him, smiling. When he stooped down, she held her phone away at arm's length, angling down at the pair of them.

"I know I am," she said simply, still smiling. "Say cheese," she added, leaning over and pressing a dramatic kiss to his cheek as she took the picture.

Charlie/Jenny

Of course, he didn't say cheese, he didn't say anything. When Jenny showed him the picture he had his familiar moody expression, like in every photo he was in. "Perfect" he said, squeezing her shoulder.

"Looking forward to break?"

Charlie/Jenny

Jenny smiled, nodding her head. "I'll send it to you later," she assured him. Not adding, of course, that she might print a copy for herself. It was a pretty cute picture, even with that look on his face.

When he mentioned break, she seemed a bit more apprehensive, though she did offer a little smile. "I am. Or, I guess, I'm trying. El's been really weird lately, she seems kinda on edge, I'm hoping going home will be good for her.. I mean, I want to go too, but I'm gunna miss being here. I want to more for Ella than me. I think a good old predictable Christmas will do her good. I hate it when she's upset, and it's like.. a twin thing," she explained, smiling a bit sadly.

"You can't not know when they have stuff going on. Like, when she's not right, I'm not right, so I just want things to be cool again."

Charlie/Jenny

"When isn't she weird" Charlie scoffed, raising an eyebrow but listening all the same. Even if he and Ella never saw quite eye-to-eye, knowing anyone was having a hard time was bad news.

"If I can do anything, I'll try and help. Unless it's like...Woman's troubles."

Charlie/Jenny

"Ha-ha," Jenny replied dryly, rolling her eyes at him. She knew that he didn't mean it though; he was a good guy, as much of a jerk as he tended to act like at times.

"And it's not any sort of woman problem, so don't worry about it. She's just not acting like herself, and before you even say it, I'm sure it isn't related to PMS or anything else you want to blame it on. I know my sister," she assured him, a little more defensively than she perhaps meant to sound.

She was, after all, more mad at herself than anybody else. If she couldn't find out what was wrong and help Ella, then who could?

Charlie/Jenny

Charlie had just about to say it was PMS, and instead kept his mouth shut. "Well, she can't keep a secret from you for long, right?"
867_5309 From: [info]867_5309 Date: December 12th, 2010 06:46 pm (UTC) (Link)

Charlie/Jenny

"Not usually," Jenny agreed, smiling slightly. There was definite strain in the smile, though. "But this might be different. Why hasn't she told me already? She's been acting off since Halloween, and she hasn't said a word. When I ask her if she's okay, she just tries to act like herself, but I'm not falling for it."
walktheline From: [info]walktheline Date: December 12th, 2010 07:03 pm (UTC) (Link)

Charlie/Jenny

"Maybe she's pregnant" Charlie suggested, surpressing a smirk. "Keep an ear out for morning sickness" he said, knowing they shared a bedroom.

Charlie/Jenny

Jenny scrunched her nose up, punching him again, a little rougher this time. "Asshole! She is not!" she snapped, eyebrows furrowing up instinctively. "And if she was, she would definitely tell me that!"
walktheline From: [info]walktheline Date: December 12th, 2010 07:42 pm (UTC) (Link)

Charlie/Jenny

"Hey!" He said, wounded. "She could be. It only takes one time!" He fiddled with hair again moodily.
867_5309 From: [info]867_5309 Date: December 12th, 2010 07:50 pm (UTC) (Link)

Charlie/Jenny

"How do you expect me to ask my sister if that's what she has wrong with her? Like, just walk up and be like.. hey, I noticed you're kind of bummed lately, have you had unprotected sex as of late?" Jenny retorted, scoffing a little. "She's smarter than that. She's not going to be like our mum, believe me.. I know she won't. Someone must have done something else to her," she muttered, quickly adding, "Something non-sexual. I'm done talking about that, ew."
walktheline From: [info]walktheline Date: December 12th, 2010 07:54 pm (UTC) (Link)

Charlie/Jenny

"Sorry, sorry" Charlie muttered, holding his hands up in defense. "Just trying to help." He put his hands back in his pockets and grew silent.

Charlie/Jenny

Jenny immediately felt like shit when she saw the look on his face. Even with him trying to act cool, she knew he probably wasn't impressed with her. It was her and Ella's problem, but she was taking it out on him, and she now felt horrible for it.

"Sorry," she murmured simply, offering her hand out to him dutifully, pouting. "I'm just worried. I'm being a bitch. My bad."

Charlie/Jenny

Charlie wrapped an arm around her shoulders and pulled her into a hug, squished to his side.

"Just relax, okay? She's fine tonight, I saw her dancing earlier."

Charlie/Jenny

Jenny nodded a little, letting her head rest against him, eyes closing for a few moments. He smelled faintly like old weed and his usual 'rugged' scent, but it was nice, and also rather comforting. She smiled. "I know. She'll live, I just.. wish I knew what was up. I guess I'm nosy like that when it comes to her. I'm not used to being on the outside."
walktheline From: [info]walktheline Date: December 13th, 2010 01:56 pm (UTC) (Link)

Charlie/Jenny

As soon as he had pulledher over he was backing away again. All she needed was a little reassurance and it wouldn't do to linger too long like that. People might start talking.

"Yeah. You are pretty nosy" he teased, smirking again.

Charlie/Jenny

"Very funny," Jenny replied, smirking back at him. He might not have been the best with advice, but he did make her smile. And he was a decent listener. She was still glad that she had came to him, even if it hadn't actually helped her problems at all. When he backed away, she backed off as well, the same thought crossing her mind. People did love to talk at CCI, that much was for sure.

"Thanks though.. like, just for listening. I feel better."
