Ella arrived at Sam's party bright and early, since she couldn't stay late. Her parents had gone to some grown-up party and it was too perfect not to spring Jenny out of her bedroom jail. And now they were here, and Ella had checked Jenny was okay before she had slipped away, leaving her talking to some other friends.
She cracked open one of her drinks, which she had brought in abundance, and smiled around her. Jenny's fit at the dance had all been forgotten it seemed, where as at home it hung over them like a dark cloud. It was refreshing and Ella was in a super mood.
As normal, Casey arrived on the earlier side. He didn't have any intention of leaving early, but getting there sooner got him out of his house sooner. There was only so much overbearing mother he could handle.
Being that it was going to be a late night, Casey made sure he came well armed with energy drinks. There was no telling what the aftermath of energy drinks and alcohol would be if he started drinking, but that wasn't the point. The point was to have fun while ringing in the new year.
One of the first people he saw when entering was one of the Parry twins. He suspected it might have been Ella, but that was generally because he knew Ella a little better. Either way, he stepped up beside her and grinned in greeting. "Having fun yet?"
"Casey!" Ella grinned, giving him a small hug. "Happy New Year! Wait. Can we say that yet? Oh well, I said it anyway!" She laughed and let him go. "Wow, sweet hat dude!" She poked Casey's hat a little, bringing the brim down slightly.
"Pfft," Casey scoffed a little bit and continued to smile. "You can say it whenever. It's just more relevant when it's actually the new year."
He did nothing to hinder her pushing the brim down a bit. Without bothering to fix it, he just angled his head up a little bit for the time being. "Thanks. You look pretty good, too." Even that small compliment almost came out as a blunder, and he quickly jumped to another topic before he felt the heat start in his face. "Having a good break?"
Ella smoothed her dress down at his compliment. "Do you like it? I got it for Christmas. Well, Jenny got it for Christmas but she left me have it." She took a quick gulp of drink before answering his question.
"It's been okay. I mean, after the dance and everything, it's been a little stressful. But that's what getting drunk is for!"
"Yea, I do. Looks good on you." Casey nodded. Nevermind that it'd also look good on Jenny as they were identical twins and all that.
At the mention of the dance, Casey's smile faltered a little bit. He remembered what happened to Ella's sister, though he didn't really see it. It had been a little hard to see around all the other people. But he heard it. "It is! How's Jenny hanging in there? She okay?"
"Oh she was fine a couple of days after, but mom has been keeping her hostage ever since." Ella rolled her eyes then bit her lip. She leaned in closer to Casey gleefully. "I busted her out tonight. We're here as fugitives. Shhhh."
Well, that was good to hear. Casey wasn't entirely sure he'd be the sort that would be able to bounce back from that easily. Then again, he wondered if Jenny even know what she said.
"Good." The smile reappeared with a small laugh, and he took a moment to look around to see where Jenny may have gone too. Not that he looked all that hard before answering. "And still good. It sounds like she needs to get out and have some fun. If you need a cover story, let me know."
Ella tried to look for Jenny too and smiled sweetly. "Yeah, she deserves a break. Being back at school might help too, you know?" She sighed and bounced on the spot a little. "Thanks dude, I'll totally keep that in mind. You can come back home with us and deal with my mom" she joked, twirling a strand of hair.
"Oh yea, sure," Casey laughed as he jokingly made a face like dealing with their mom was no big deal. In truth, he'd probably make things about ten times worse. Casey Rycroft did not usually deal well under pressure. Unless he was completely wasted, apparently. "It's a pity the 'we're twin superheroes and were out saving the world' excuse probably won't fly."
"You're a real friend, my friend" Ella joked, throwing an arm around Casey. "We could be like the Powerpuff Girls, right? Except there's three of them.."
Casey couldn't help but to laugh again as Ella slung her arm around him. It wasn't all that odd having the momentary image of the twins in Powerpuff Girl outfits. They seemed to fit, other than both being blonde. Nor superheroes.
"Oh yea, totally. I fit the Professor profile." He grinned over at her. "Even just with two, you and your sister are a force enough."
"I dunno, the Professor is pretty suave. Are you sure you're not more like the monkey with the outside brain?" She massaged the top of his head through his hat, really laughing now.
"Hey! I can be suave... ish... sort of... if I'm drunk..." Casey, though he was smiling, let his head hang down in mock shame. Even managing suave while drunk as a long shot. "At least I look better than the monkey with the outside brain."
"Well, if we got you a lab coat, you could totally be suave. Drunk or not." She pulled her pack of booze off the floor and showed it to him. "Do you want one? They're like, bitch drinks but it's just like drinking sugar!"
"... I need a lab coat, then." As if a lab coat would really help.
Casey watched her as she picked up the pack of drinks and offered one to him. They definitely looked like liquid sugar with the way they were colored. "Yea, sure. Sugar is always good." Just to prove it, he brandished one of his Mana potions from his pocket. "Like this. I bet between the two we can achieve maximum sugar high."
"It can be a cool lab coat, with a fur collar. Well, faux fur" she corrected herself, laughing. "With sequins! I might have to steal it off of you, actually."
Ella gasped at his suggestion, holding her hand out for a high five. "Hell yes! Let's do this!"
Well, that was cool right up until Ella got to the fur collar and sequins part. Neither of them were his style. "Oh, if it had both of those, you can have it."
Ella achieved her high five and Casey pulled another potion from his pocket. He had more in the coat he stashed, having worn it from the house to the nearest Floo station in order to get there. "Which do you want first? Mana or Health?" The red potion, or the blue potion.
"Blue blue blue!" She said excitedly, shaking the two bottles under Casey's nose and vaguely wondering if this was to be a good idea if their parents wanted to speak to her and Jenny later. But the thought was gone almost as soon as it had entered her head and she made a little excited noise in anticipation.
"Blue it is." The red potion bottle went temporarily between his teeth as he got the plastic around the cap of the blue bottle off before handing it over to Ella. Well, more like exchanging that for one of the two bottles she held, tucking that under one arm while he got the wrapper off the red one. "This is both the best and probably worst idea ever."
Ella scoffed and shook her head. "There is no such thing as a worst idea" she said wisely, inspecting the bottle and grinning. "Bombs away!" She cried, downing the drink which fizzed and made her chest feel warm. "That's weird" she laughed.
"Allons-y!" He said in typical Doctor Who fashion before he followed suit, opening the drink Ella gave him and knocking that back first. It took a few moments before he recovered from the fizz of it to be able to follow through with the health potion in his other hand. "Oh man." Casey blinked a few times. "You weren't kidding about that first drink. Total sugar. And fizz. Sugary fizzy goodness."
"Can you imagine if we had some pop rocks? We'd be like...exploding!" Ella made a wild gesture, wide eyed. "This is the best New Years ever! My mom is gonna kill me!"
