All in all, it had turned out to be a pretty good night. All of his friends had showed up and seemed to be having a good time. He hadn't seen much of Abernathy but the fact that she had showed up was enough for him to think that things were on the rebound. He meandered through the party until he landed himself in the middle of the crowd.

Everyone around him started counting down the last seconds of the year. "Five! Four! Three! Two! One!"

"Happy New Year!" Amber chorused with the rest of the crowd, grabbing the nearest person for the midnight kiss. It's tradition, all right; so what if she used a little more tongue than was customary?

Her New Year's toy was a surprisingly good choice for a random grab. Tall and handsome, and tasted like Dr Pepper instead of some of that awful crap going around in flasks and pilfered bottles.

She pulled away slowly, teasingly, and grinned at him. "And to many more." Damn, he was tall. Her heels did practically nothing to even them out.

Sam was caught off guard by the tongue being shoved down his throat but not so shocked that he didn't kiss her back... just a little bit. Putting his hands on her hips, he staggered away a little bit. "Whoa," he grinned, planting that easy grin on his face. "Happy New Year."
