Characters:Sam and... someone!
Setting: Music room, Saturday afternoon
Rating:Worksafe?
Summary:Sam is working out a new drum solo with his awesome LED drumsticks when...

The New Years Eve party had been a success. Of course he had spent most of the next morning cleaning but it was okay, as long as people had a good time. And things were good with Abernathy right? He was ready to get back to school but not so much for the academics, it was just nice to get out of the house. Sam was still full of all that energy from the Beau win last night. With all that adrenaline he just needed to get out and drum, he hadn't drummed since before vacation so as soon as he woke up Saturday afternoon he bounced off to the music room.

The room was filled with the sound of Sam drumming. The sound would cease occasionally as he scribbled down a line but he went right back to trying out new rhythms.

After spending some time with Vinnie, and coming away with a full stomach, Brody was feeling more inspired than she had all day long. She had smoked another two cigarettes, puffing away thoughtfully, before deciding to head up to her room, just long enough to grab her bass, before heading out again.

She made her way to the music room, moving along all of the familiar corridors and turns, and only pausing right outside the door. There was somebody already in there. Her brow furrowed a bit, as she considered who it might actually be. There were a few drummers at the school, but the two that stood out to her were Shelby and Sam. She supposed, if she had to share musical space with somebody, neither of them were a particularly bad choice.

Finally pushing the door open, Brody made her way inside, bass hanging from her shoulder. Seeing it was Sam, she watched as he scrawled down a line. "Working hard, Sammy?"

Sam looked up and grinned. "You know it lady," he said brightly after taking a swig of water. He stood up from his drums and stretched a bit. "Nice game last night Brodski," he complimented his friend.

"You know it," Brody grinned, moving over to one of the stools along the wall. She grabbed the edge of it, dragging it further out onto the floor, before sitting down on it at last. "I'm still kinda stiff, but it was worth it, right? No pain, no gain. And I definitely almost knocked that tall chick off her broom. She was hella piiiiissed!"
samtheman From: [info]samtheman Date: January 9th, 2011 12:14 am (UTC) (Link)
Sam laughed. "Yeah, that was awesome," he grinned. "I thought she was going to knock you out after the game ended. You guys dominated."

"You gonna work on anything special today?"
almost_famous From: [info]almost_famous Date: January 9th, 2011 02:19 am (UTC) (Link)
"It's about time, baby. We've been getting our asses handed to us for too long.. time to pick up the slack," Brody grinned back.

Adjusting the bass in her lap, and giving it a testing strum, she shrugged. "I was just going to jam, really. Nothing special. What about you? What you working on?"
samtheman From: [info]samtheman Date: January 9th, 2011 02:34 am (UTC) (Link)
"So true! I think it was all in the cheerleaders butt wiggling," he smirked. "We pulled out all the stops this week."

"Same, I had some new lines in my head that I really wanted to test out before I put them down on paper," he twirled a drumstick and quietly played out a short, simple, but unique line. "That reminded me of the Brody Rogers Experience," he grinned.
almost_famous From: [info]almost_famous Date: January 9th, 2011 02:38 am (UTC) (Link)
"There was a whole lotta ass hanging out on the field this week, I gotta hand it to you guys," she joked, grinning wildly.

She listened to the line, her head nodding appreciatively with the beat. "Hit me again," she instructed simply, idly strumming the bass again. "You know you gotta be the best to impress the Experience," she reminded him, eyebrows waggling.
samtheman From: [info]samtheman Date: January 9th, 2011 02:53 am (UTC) (Link)
Sam laughed. "Yeah, we figured it would be motivation enough to get us out of our loosing funk."

"Oh I know baby," he grinned and played the line again. Brody was one of the more bad ass music chicks in the school, if there was one person he would shared his music time with it was definitely her.

When it came to music, Brody didn't mince words of criticism. She made that clear, even to her friends. But when they did good, they got the rewards. "That is boss, hun! Now slow it down just a touch, like the tiniest increment," she suggested, as she began to play out an equally simple tune on her bass. Their music felt loud in the otherwise silent room, and Brody loved it. Nothing got her pumped up like good tunes.
samtheman From: [info]samtheman Date: January 9th, 2011 04:08 am (UTC) (Link)
"You got it," he said easily. Sam couldn't help the smile on his face as he slowed the beat down just a touch to match Brody's bass line. He loved the thrumming he could feel in his chest as he drummed, filling the room with their music.

Brody was still grinning, relaxed into the stool she was seated on. Her legs crossed carefully, but her strumming didn't stop, mixing up the rhythm a little bit now as she played. "good jamming, it's better than good sex," she teased.

"Maybe we should name our song that. Better than sex, by the Brody Rogers Experience featuring Sam the Man?"
samtheman From: [info]samtheman Date: January 9th, 2011 05:02 am (UTC) (Link)
"There's nothing better," he agreed. He grinned, laughing a bit at the name. "I like it," he said adding in little flourishes where the music allowed it. "Maybe we can write a series of songs better than sex," he grinned.
almost_famous From: [info]almost_famous Date: January 9th, 2011 05:07 am (UTC) (Link)
"Series of songs? That sounds dangerously close to a collaboration. Sammy, you know I'm the lone wolf of music," Brody replied, unable to help but grin back at him. "But I guess if I'm going to work with somebody, it might as well be somebody who knows their shit.."
samtheman From: [info]samtheman Date: January 9th, 2011 05:54 am (UTC) (Link)
"Oh I know," he grinned. "I wouldn't dream of weighing you down with the complications of a band Brodski," he said easily. "I just enjoy playing with you."

"You know you're always welcome to come play with Keegan and I," the offer was something a standing thing, he figured she would never actually join their band but it was always fun to play with new people.
almost_famous From: [info]almost_famous Date: January 9th, 2011 12:25 pm (UTC) (Link)
It wasn't to say that Brody had never considered playing with other people. It just always made her feel so vulnerable to depend on other people. Bands broke up too easily, and when they did, everyone usually suffered. Other than the occasional solo careers to come out of break-ups, it was often just easier to be solo to begin with. It saved your relationship with your potential bandmates, for one.

"I guess I could do a cameo or do," she finally said, glancing at him with a little smile. "What are you guys calling yourself these days anyway? Tell me you've got a badass name."
samtheman From: [info]samtheman Date: January 9th, 2011 06:04 pm (UTC) (Link)
"Cameos are sometimes the best, you don't have to worry about great expectations," he grinned.

Oh right! A band name! They didn't have one of those yet. "We haven't sat down to really name it yet," he said raising his eyebrows. "I bet when we do come up with something it will be totally badass though."
almost_famous From: [info]almost_famous Date: January 9th, 2011 10:05 pm (UTC) (Link)
"Exactly. Come in, drop a couple featured tracks on an album, and get out.. and I mean come on, if I was on your album, even briefly, I'm sure you'd see the sales sky-rocketing," Brody teased, grinning back.

"No name yet? Seriously? Naming a band is one of the most important things!"
samtheman From: [info]samtheman Date: January 10th, 2011 12:36 am (UTC) (Link)
"Right?" he grinned. "A couple tracks from the Brodski would put us at the top of the pile man," he grinned.

"Which is exactly why we have to take our time in naming said band," he said, trying to follow his own logic. "We can't just name it some rando thing, it might end up being the Candy Corn Snatchers," he grinned.
almost_famous From: [info]almost_famous Date: January 10th, 2011 12:58 am (UTC) (Link)
Brody laughed, rolling her eyes playfully at him. "You know just how to talk to a woman, Sammy. Agree with every word she says. But I guess it's okay, since I'm probably right. Not that I don't think you'll be famous all on your own.. you've got some sick beats, babe."

She couldn't help but laugh again at the Candy Corn Snatchers, scrunching up her nose. "Noooo, don't go with knee-jerk reactions! You're right, a name needs like.. planning. It's a very serious step. I've always thought that if I was going to make a band, I'd have called it Brody Rogers and the Shaky Deals. It's got a ring to it, but it's no experience."
samtheman From: [info]samtheman Date: January 10th, 2011 10:12 pm (UTC) (Link)
"It works though doesn't it?" he said waggling his eyebrows like a goof. He couldn't help but laugh though. "Thanks little lady, you're not so bad yourself." He was sure if there was one person who would make a name for herself it was Brody Rogers, it was all in the attitude sometimes.

"Ooo... it does have a nice ring to it though. I mean, you pair Brody Rogers with anything and it's going to sound spectacular," he really was shameless sometimes.
almost_famous From: [info]almost_famous Date: January 11th, 2011 12:42 am (UTC) (Link)
Brody laughed, sticking her tongue out at him. "Keep sweet talking, babe. You forget that Marina is my girl, I'm immune to your Ruiz charm," she retorted, smirking. "You're right though. I have to say, as far as little girls with boys names go, I really grew up to luck out."
samtheman From: [info]samtheman Date: January 11th, 2011 01:21 am (UTC) (Link)
"Awww," he pouted, sticking out his lower lip just a little. "Not even a little? I thought us Ruiz's were impossible to say no to."

"Yeah really did, you could have been stuck with something like Michael or Jonathan," he grinned. "That would not have gone over nearly as well."
almost_famous From: [info]almost_famous Date: January 11th, 2011 02:32 am (UTC) (Link)
"You'd think so, but with great practice comes great resistance," she replied, grinning a little at his pout. He was pretty cute when he made that face. Well, cute for her biffles brother and all.

She scrunched her nose immediately at his name suggestions. "I am so not a Michael. Or a Jonathan. Though, I think if I was Jonny, short for Jonathan? I could live with that."
samtheman From: [info]samtheman Date: January 11th, 2011 03:21 am (UTC) (Link)
He grinned. "Yeah, I guess," he tried the pout just once more and then laughed. "I used to think Ina and I could take over the world with our pouts," he joked.

He laughed. "Yeah, you're definitely not a Michael," he shook his head. "Though I could see you as like... a Nate or a Danny," he shrugged. "But hey, don't want to mess with a good thing, right?"
almost_famous From: [info]almost_famous Date: January 12th, 2011 02:05 am (UTC) (Link)
"Looks like you'll have to think up another scheme for world domination," Brody replied, laughing. "Though in your defense, I find your pout to be just that extra touch more believable."

Pausing for a moment, seeming to consider this, the red-head nodded. "I could deal with Danny. I really like the name Dylan too, that's kind of boyish.. but like you say, don't mess with a good thing. Or perfection, in this case," she teased.
samtheman From: [info]samtheman Date: January 13th, 2011 01:40 am (UTC) (Link)
He grinned wider. "I'll cook up a Plan B just in case. Maybe I'll gather a flock of geese and take the world by storm."

Sam laughed. "Right? Perfection." He stopped drumming and grinned at her. "Wanna give me a beat miss?" he asked waiting for her to play.
almost_famous From: [info]almost_famous Date: January 13th, 2011 11:29 pm (UTC) (Link)
"That I can do," Brody replied quickly, smiling. She adjusted the bass in her lap, before beginning to strum something out. She wasn't sure what song it was, something she had heard a few days ago; it had been looping around her head since then, and it felt good to get it out. She could barely resist tapping her foot.
samtheman From: [info]samtheman Date: January 15th, 2011 04:39 am (UTC) (Link)
Sam let her play out the first bit but once he got a feel for it he couldn't help but drum along. It was great to be playing again and even better to play with a friend. The thing he had missed the most about being at school was having someone to jam with.
almost_famous From: [info]almost_famous Date: January 15th, 2011 06:51 am (UTC) (Link)
Although Brody did so love to assert her independence in the music department, jamming with people was still one of her favorite things. She might have shied away from the idea of a band full-time, but there was still something about the way all of the sound came together, blending and working. It always gave her shivers.

When she had played out the entirety of the song, she held her hand over her strings, lifting her head to grin over at Sam. "Intense, bro."
samtheman From: [info]samtheman Date: January 15th, 2011 06:58 am (UTC) (Link)
"Oh seriously," he grinned. "You have no idea how badly I needed this," he shook his head. "Needless to say, it was a long break."
almost_famous From: [info]almost_famous Date: January 15th, 2011 07:14 am (UTC) (Link)
"Tell me about it," Brody sighed, shaking her head. "I really thought I was going to die when I was stuck home all that time. I didn't have anything to do at all. Talk about dull.. plus my brother was being a complete douchenozzle the entire time."
samtheman From: [info]samtheman Date: January 15th, 2011 08:43 pm (UTC) (Link)
"It was too quiet," he nodded. "No douchenozzles," he grinned. "Well... until I woke up the morning after my new years eve party to find some lovely art work and hung over kids all over my house. I woke them up by pelting them with cereal and sometimes the entire box," he laughed. "Did you make it to my party?" he asked. "I didn't see you there."
almost_famous From: [info]almost_famous Date: January 16th, 2011 02:54 am (UTC) (Link)
"I was around for a bit," Brody replied. "I left kind of early though, one of the friends I went with started puking and I couldn't deal. I just went home and hung out with my sister for a bit. She was babysitting our cousins," she added. "Sorry about that puke, by the way, if you were the one who had to clean it up."
samtheman From: [info]samtheman Date: January 16th, 2011 05:25 pm (UTC) (Link)
He laughed. "It's alright," he shrugged. "There were plenty worse things to clean up than puke," he scrunched up his nose.

"Sounds like a pretty mellow night," he nodded. "Must have been nice," he laughed. "I had fun, don't get me wrong but we had to bust our asses to get that place spotless the next morning," he grinned.
almost_famous From: [info]almost_famous Date: January 18th, 2011 02:10 am (UTC) (Link)
"Ugh, I can only imagine," Brody replied, shaking her head. "You were a real sport to put it on, hun. I can only imagine the crap you went through.. probably literally in some cases. Pretty awesome of you guys," she mused, smiling.

"And it was pretty mellow. We just snuggled up with the dogs and watched the Space Needle fireworks on tv."
samtheman From: [info]samtheman Date: January 20th, 2011 05:17 am (UTC) (Link)
He grinned. "Yeah," he shook his head. "I'm surprised we didn't get in trouble. We had just finished taking care of things when my parents rolled into the drive way."

"That sounds nice," Sam leaned back in his chair. "Fireworks are always my favorite and we didn't even get any at my house. Someone had switched to the Time Square countdown and then some, oh man... some blonde chick assaulted me with her tongue," he laughed.
