Characters: Casey and Gael
Setting: Out in the commons, evening.
Content: Probably SFW. Little light swearing at most.
Summary: Casey heads outside and Gael has an interesting case of mistaken identity to deal with.


Casey Rycroft should have been notorious by now for wandering the paths of the commons without paying attention to things going on around him. He often walked with a book, or was engrossed in a DS game, or simply was letting his mind wander over new ideas as he walked around on auto pilot. This time was no different.

Only that night he was reading the latest review of Dead Space 2 on his phone.

He had decided that the next time he had a little bit of spare money he was going to pick the game up, just before he looked up to realize he was about to walk into someone. Casey managed to stumble to the side to avoid hitting the kid, and didn't really have time to wonder whether he'd managed to aim himself for someone just standing there or if he'd caught up to them walking.

All Casey thought of as he looked up into a familiar face was one single word: Shit.

Having just come back from a date with Ginger, Gael was taking his time making his way back to his own dorm. Of course he'd made sure to walk her to her own dorm first. He was also still a little shaken about what had happened to Leon.

All in all, he was rather distracted on his way back to Sonnier, and hadn't been paying attention to where he was going. So he hadn't noticed the other student until they nearly collided.

He reached out, to help steady the other boy if he needed it, frowning at the other's clearly startled and... was that horror in his expression?

"You okay? I'm sorry, I wasn't paying attention."

It was definitely Casey being over paranoid, but when Gael reached out to him, the younger boy flinched. While he didn't have a clear memory of Charlie's party after a certain point, he did remember the pictures Rowan had managed to take. Namely the one where Leon had him by the shirt.

While it was a little weird that he didn't get chewed out for nearly colliding with him, Casey still tried to cover in his answer. Only he rambled just a bit too much. "Yea, yea. I'm fine. I mean, I wasn't watching where I was going as much as I should have been. So it's cool."

Gael frowned a bit at the flinch, wondering if maybe the kid had sprained his ankle when he tried to make sure they didn't bump into each other. He became a little more concerned.

"You sure? I mean, it's as much my fault anyway." He wasn't entirely sure why Casey seemed so nervous. Maybe he'd been doing something that he didn't want someone catching him at...?

"Yea, I'm sure." Casey said with an over certain nod of his head. Unfortunately, he was unable to stop rambling. "I mean, you haven't tried to hit me again yet, so that automatically means I'm fine. Especially considering I expected to at least be verbally reamed out for almost colliding with you."

Casey paused, giving the other boy a suspicious look. "I'm not stuck in some weird magic version of Invasion of the Body Snatchers, am I?"

"'Hit you'?" Gael's frown deepened. He couldn't think of anyone having a reason to think he'd hit them. Him of all people.

"Why would I..." Realization dawned on him then and he shook his head. Of course. Trust Leon to terrorize an underclassmen, and naturally they wouldn't necessarily be able to tell the difference between him and his brother. "No, I think you're safe, though I guess... Would we really know if we were or not?"

Probably didn't help matters with that comment. He smiled slightly. "I think you're just confusing me with Leon. I'm Gael, the other Shaw."

For a moment, Casey just stared. First at the theory of the body snatcher thing, but it was really the mention of another Shaw that caught Casey off guard. Well, more off guard than he already was.

"The 'other' Shaw? Wait," Casey blinked and shook head head a bit in an attempt to clear everything else out of his head so he could understand Gael correctly. Two of them certainly made sense with the completely different attitudes. "Twins? Oh god. I totally made myself look like an ass. I'm sorry."

Gael laughed and waved a hand dismissively. "Don't worry about it. It happens a lot." When people don't know us that well, he added mentally. No need to make the kid feel worse about it.

"So, why would my brother want to hit you?" Gael wasn't stupid, he knew his brother wasn't the friendliest of people. But for someone to be afraid that he'd hit them in their own school... It seemed a bit much.

Well, at least Gael didn’t seem too insulted by his mix up, which made Casey relax a bit. Right up until Gael mentioned the hitting thing and he cringed.

“So, it’s a funny story. To be honest, uhm... It was months ago, first time I ever got drunk. I don’t remember the reason or what exactly happened, but Adelaide was involved and your evil twin got pissed and grabbed my shirt.” So he didn’t get hit previously, but there was the lingering paranoia of it. He looked thoughtful for a moment. “Really wish I could remember exactly why...”

Gael couldn't help his concern at the cringe. He didn't really blame the younger boy. As much as Gael loved his brother, he knew he could be more than a bit of an ass.

"There probably wasn't a real reason," Gael admitted somewhat tiredly. He should have guessed Adelaide had something to do with it. And his brother had probably been drunk or high, if it was at a party. Or otherwise. "I'm sorry about that. Leon's not... Well, I'm the friendlier one, so I promise I won't ever grab you and hit you." He said the last part with a slight smile, trying to make light of it.

Casey ran a hand back through his hair, letting out a breath that almost seemed to expel the remaining tension from him. Gael certainly wasn't Leon, and therefore there was no reason for him to be so tense.

"No worries, man. I suppose I'm just a little jumpy." Though more of that could be blamed on the fact there was a lot of weird stuff happening around school. "I'm sorry for not really realizing the whole twin thing."

Casey's exhalation somewhat helped Gael relax a bit more, too. The jumpiness had made him worried, and now it seemed like that was over. At least the confusion was gone, anyway.

He gave Casey a reassuring smile. "I think we're all a bit jumpy lately. And really, it's no big deal. Even our family has a hard time telling us apart sometimes."

Slowly, he nodded. "That's true. I mean, not that I blame anyone for being jumpy with all the stuff that's been going on lately."

Casey managed a smile, even though he still felt a little bad for getting them confused and getting all paranoid. Of course he had to make himself look like an ass. "And I hope you mean like, extended family. Because you and Leon already seem very different. You're a hell of a lot more friendly than he is. Either that or I just bumped into Leon on a really bad day."

He shook his head. "No, I don't either. I think even the faculty's on edge."

Gael's smile widened. "We've been known to fool our parents once or twice, when we try at it." He sighed and rubbed at his neck. "Probably a little of both. He doesn't really- It's nothing personal with him." He wished he could offer some other kind of explanation, cause this one certainly painted his brother in a bad light. "Some people are happy drunks, he's just a slightly confrontational one." Of course, he's that way without the alcohol, too...

"Or one that gets really irritated really easily." Casey added before he could really stop it from coming out of his mouth. That was the case, from the little bit that he remembered along with the pictures he saw.

"I should probably let you get back to... whatever it was you were going to do." He lifted a hand to scratch the back of his head a bit. Not the he had anything important to tend to, he just didn't feel like holding up Gael from whatever it was he might have been off to do.

"Bit of that too, I guess." It never really took too much to get Leon going. One more huge difference between the two of them...

"Oh, I was just heading back to my dorm. But if you're busy go ahead." He smiled and gave Casey a shrug-wave. He thought he'd seen a phone in Casey's hand earlier and figured he'd been texting to meet up with someone.

"Not entirely busy, no. I still have homework to do," which was the truth. Never mind the fact that he'd probably end up playing some sort of video game instead.

He took a couple steps in the direction he was headed, but still turning so that he could look at Gael. "I'll see you around, yea? Just... well, if I don't happen to say hi, smile and I'll know it's you. Or something."

Gael grinned at that. "Hopefully it's pretty easy. I always hate having last minute homework."

He started to turn after Casey started walking away, but glanced back at him and smiled. "Sure. Maybe I'll convince Leon we need to start wearing name tags. See you around, and good luck on that homework." He gave a little wave.
