It was hard not to notice Mari once she was in the dance, a faint jingling sound followed her around owing to the amount of jewelry she was wearing. She had turned up fashionably early and was picking bits of ceiling glitter out of her hair she she bumped into someone.

"Fuck, sorry. I'm trying to keep the glitter attack away" she explained, pointing up at one of the exploding hearts. "Sneaky things. You'll find glitter in your bedsheets for the next three months."

Kirsten was normally a jeans and sneakers kind of girl, but when an occasion called for dressing up, it was kind of fun to do so, even if it was too much of a hassle to bother with on a daily basis. She entered the main hall practically as soon as the dance started, ready to get her groove on, when she felt someone bump into her.

She turned around to see an older girl whom she recognized as a Rienzi, though she couldn't place her name.

"No big." she shrugged. "I don't think anyone expected those hearts to explode. Well, except for the people who made them explode."

As she spoke, another heart exploded across the hall.

"There goes another one. I guess I don't mind the glitter too much- at least it goes with my outfit!"

Mari didn't really know Kristen, not by name anyway but that never stopped her talking to anyone and she grinned. With a last shake of her bangs she was sure most of the glitter was gone (probably to resurface again later) and she checked out the younger girl's outfit.

"No shit, you're really sparkly tonight. It's totally cute!"

"Thanks." Kirsten beamed. "Your outfit's pretty awesome, too. I like the gold stuff in the front of your dress."

As much as she loved color, she wished she'd thought to wear a dress that stood out more in the sea of reds and pinks like the Mari's did. Maybe next year, something in green or blue.

Mari beamed happily and preened slightly before turning her attention back to the other girl whilst trying to place her.

"You're in Beauregard, right? I'm Mari."

"Yeah." Kirsten answered. "My name's Kirsten. And aren't you in Rienzi?"

Kirsten had seen Mari around, and color-coded ties made it easy to guess who was in what house, but even if she hadn't, she seemed more Rienzi-ish than Lalaurie, and she didn't seem like a Sonnier at all. Then again, people could surprise you.
