	Characters: Colby and Casey Setting: Beauregard Common Room Content: SFW Summary: Colby asks Casey to the Sadie Hawkins Dance! Her original plan had been to ask Sam to the Sadie Hawkins dance, since he'd asked her to the Mardi Gras dance, but now that he had a girlfriend that was definitely out of the question. Not that it was the end of the world or anything, Sam was her bud and she was happy for him. Besides, this meant that she could ask out someone who wasn't like a brother to her and maybe have an actual date type thing. And so come Sunday evening, she finally gathered up enough courage to try and ask Casey to the dance. If he didn't already have a date, that was. But she could still try. It couldn't hurt, right? So she made her way to Beauregard House, wandering in to the Common Room and looking around for her classmate, waving at various people she knew, somewhat nervously. When she spotted Casey, she made her way over to him and plopped down in the seat across from him and gave him a bright smile. "Hey!" Tags: !incomplete, casey rycroft, colby ayers

Casey had made his way down to the common room a little while earlier, seating himself on one of the more comfortable couches with his laptop on his lap. Tonight he wasn't gaming, surprisingly. No, the discovery that he was now among others in the sock theft had him too distracted to game.

Instead he was looking around for parts that he could use to make tracking devices. If he could get that together and attach them to bait socks, it was possible he could find out where they were all going.

Movement in front of him caught his eye, and he looked up to find Colby sitting across from him. Casey gave her a wide smile. "Hey! How's it going?"

Curling up her legs under her, Colby made herself a little more comfortable. It was also an excuse to fidget some. She gave a one shouldered shrug, still smile brightly. "Good, not too bad. How about you?"

She leaned forward a little, as though she would try and peak at whatever he was doing. "What are you up to?"

"Pretty good." Despite the fact the week did not end like he expected, and his mind still kept going back to that. "Well, other than finding that several of my socks were missing this morning."

Casey didn't bother to shield his laptop from her, as he was only looking through some online stores. Of course, he wasn't finding what he needed. "Trying to find something I can make tracking devices out of. I'm hoping that maybe if we can get some bait socks to go missing, we can find out where they're ending up."

She made a frowny face. "Oh no! I hate loosing socks. Corduroy eats mine sometimes back home."

Colby tilted her head to the side, her eyebrows quirking with interest. "You can do that? Make tracking devices I mean." She smiled widely at him. "That's definitely more creative than any idea I could've come up with."

"Creative or geektastic," Casey responded before he even thought about it. "At first I thought it could have been familiars. Like your Corduroy, but with it happening in different dorms? Not likely. And this is easier than searching every building top to bottom." He'd already looked through the public places of Beauregard, anyway.

He shook his head for a moment, pulling himself off the topic of trackers and socks. "If I keep going with that I'll just bore you," he looked up at her and smile. "What brings you over to Beau?"

"Or both," she responded with a smile. Colby's eyes widened a bit and she shook her head. "I wasn't bored!" She gave him a bright smile. "I think your theory makes sense. Still, I probably would've just come up with some kind of trap thing, and it probably wouldn't have worked. But you're actually making something."

Her eyes dropped and she tucked a strand of hair behind her ear. "Oh, well, um, I was just wondering if you... maybe wanted to, you know, maybe... go to the dance with me?" She let the last bit tumble out, staring down at her hands and playing with her hair. After she had asked though, she chanced a glance up at Casey to see his reaction.

"Well, traps can be done, and done to work. But it's tricky to do it without it obviously being a trap. If who ever or what ever is smart enough to recognize one, naturally it wouldn't work." Casey nearly kicked himself for just letting that out again. He had to work on the geek thing. Really.

His eyes turned to Colby as she went to answer his question, expecting anything other than the answer he got. He figured she was bored, or looking for someone else. Never that she wanted to ask him to a dance. Or that she seemed to be nervous about it.

Casey opened his mouth to answer, and fearing that all that would tumble out would be a jumble of words he quickly shut it. Although he was convinced his face had gone a light shade of pink, he attempted to swallow his own shock and offer her a smile. "I would love to."

Colby felt her own cheeks warm when he answered, and she grinned widely if a little nervously. "Really? I mean, yeah, I guess you wouldn't really say yes if you didn't so, um." She cut herself off and took a breath, smiling again at him. "Awesome!"

She relaxed a little in the chair, the nervous energy from before leaving her and allowing her to sit more easily. And decided to tackle easier tracks of conversation. "So how're you going to build the tracking devices?"

He chuckled a little bit, glad to see that smile. He had a bit of a problem keeping one off of his face as well. Never before had a girl asked him to a dance and it was a true battle of willpower to not grin like a moron about it.

Then, a thought occurred to him. Wasn't it traditional or something to match your date's dress? Casey thought it better to ask before getting distracted by talk of tracking devices. "Do you have a dress picked out yet? If you don't that's fine I was just curious as to the color..."

He scooted himself over so there was more room on the couch for her, and he patted the empty space beside him for her to sit if she liked. It was better for him to show her anyway. "There are pre-built things you can get, but they're just expensive. Doing it myself, I need a transmitter and then a device that will pick up that signal. I can take one of those key-finder things and alter it. Probably use some sort of radio signal."

She couldn't help the excited little bounce as she wrapped her arms her legs and ducked her chin between her knees, trying to contain her smile a bit. A part of her just wanted to jump up and do a little dance, though.

His question made her pause though and she blinked. She hadn't thought about a dress or anything, but she did remember that it was kind of customary to match. "Um, I didn't really decide on anything, but we can figure it out?" She smiled a bit. "I've got few dresses in some different colors, maybe something of yours matches?"

At his gesture, she smiled and moved herself over onto the couch next to Casey, curling her legs up under her. She leaned in slightly to see the screen. "Well, isn't it also more fun to make it yourself? Do you need to shop for the stuff? Or can you use everyday things to do it?"

Casey shrugged. "By all means, wear whatever you want. I just don't want to like... clash horribly or something." In truth he really wasn't sure how this sort of thing usually went, so he was just winging it.

The other topic, though, he knew enough about. "Oh yea. It's always more fun when you build it yourself. I just need certain parts, namely the transmitters, to work from." He'f frown. "All I have on hand are things that are far too big to use in a case like this. We want it small and subtle so that who ever or whatever is taking the socks is less likely to notice it."

"Well, yeah, that makes sense." Of course, Colby didn't really know what she was talking about. She didn't have much experience in this arena and just usually hoped for the best. "I think I was going to wear something greenish? If that helps."

She nodded at his reasoning. "Right. If they notice it, they'll either get it off or break it or something."
