Jenny/Charlie

Charlie knew Jenny well enough to know there was a bug up her butt about something, but he wasn't going to bait her tonight. He'd even shown up with flowers and a goddamn bow tie which made him feel about eleven years old. He pulled on his collar uncomfortably all the way to the dance, a disposable camera in one hand , mailed special delivery from his mom for her photo albums. He had his suspicions she was more interested inw hat Jenny wore than the fact they were going together.

When Jenny asked him a question he shrugged noncomittally at the drinks table. "Thirsty?"

"I could go for that," Jenny agreed, glancing over toward the table. She was mostly glad that his answering hadn't been smoking; he was sure he had some joints stashed on him somewhere, and she wasn't looking forward to standing outside while he smoked them. Reaching over to gently grasp his wrist, she made their way over to the drinks, tugging him along with her as quick as he'd go.

"You look adorable in your little bow-tie," she teased him as she released him and reached out for a cup.

He made a face at her as his lips drew into a thin line. "Adorable is one word for it" he grumbled before filling her cup and passing it to her.

"You went for purple again. Is it like tradition now or something?" He flashed her a smile before pouring his own drink.

Jenny accepted her drink with a grin, which quickly turned over into a scowl when he commented on her outfit. Her lips were drawn into a thin line that mimicked him almost perfectly. "What's wrong with purple? It's not like I wear the same dress, it's just the.. only color that looks good for this kind of thing," she argued, sipping from her cup.

"Are you trying to say I look bad or something?"

"Relax, you look fine" he teased, his mouth obscured by the cup but still obviously smirking.

"So hey, I thought you said you were seeing someone anyway. Did that all go to shit?" He looked at her curiously. "I thought you two were intimate."

Jenny/Charlie

"Whatever," Jenny murmured passively, rolling her eyes just the slightest bit.

She tensed up a little when Charlie started asking about her intimacy, glancing aside as he spoke to her. "I am seeing someone. That's why I asked you here as my friend, duh?" she replied, taking another quick drink. "We were intimate. We still are. In fact, we might be later. How about that?" the blonde added, sticking her tongue out at him.

Now it was Charlie's turn to start rolling his eyes. "Please stop saying intimate" he muttered, pushing off the table and aiming to walk around the hall. He waited for Jenny to follow.

"So why isn't he here dealing with you instead of me" he said with a smle.

Jenny inwardly groaned, but followed him anyway, shoes clicking behind her as she caught up to him. "What would you rather I say then? Fuck? Screw? Those are so vulgar," she protested, frowning. "I bet you're one of those people who think it's okay to say cunt," she added in a hushed whisper.

She hesitated only a moment when he asked her that, quickly coming up with a white lie. "We're just laying low for a while. No one even knows we're together, it's.. not anybody else's business, you know? Plus my mother basically told me to go with you. She told me to stay out of trouble," she informed him, smiling slowly.

Charlie raised an eyebrow. Honestly, this girl. Could she be anymore ridiculous? "What's wrong with cunt? I like cunts" he shrugged, nodding at another senior who he brushed past.

Satisfied with her answer, his smirk returned and he draped an arm over her shoulders. "Just admit it, I'm better looking. I look better in the photos." He winked at Jenny.

"Your mother doesn't pick very good dates. Hasn't she heard? I'm a bum."

Jenny/Charlie

"Cunt is a terrible word. Who says that? It's just not flattering," Jenny explained, staring blankly at him as if he were stupid.

She made a vain attempt to shrug his arm off of her shoulders, eyes rolling once more. "You are a bum, and you're definitely not as good looking. It's totally like comparing apples and oranges though, you two are.. absolutely nothing alike anyway."

Giving him a gentle nudge, she smiled. "And she told me to stay safe for a reason, she knows you're a bum. She just happens to see the nice guy under the layers of.. other things. I must get that intuition from her," she joked.

Jenny/Charlie

"It just rolls off the tongue. Cunt cunt cunt" he said, nearing nearer her ear each time.

"Yeah, I'm definitely better looking. It's okay, I can see it in your eyes" Charlie joked, mussing up his hair the way he did when he was feeling pretty good about himself.

"Has she really called me bum? 'Cause I definitely bought you a bunch of crap when we were dating. Expensive crap."

Jenny/Charlie

"You're just being disgusting and you're not disproving my point," Jenny countered, her face scrunching up at him. "That you're not good-looking and foul-mouthed is all you're proving."

She sighed lightly, leaning into the arm eventually as they walked, though she maintained some of her distance. "Not in those exact words, no. I don't know why you're getting so defensive, she isn't even the one who hates you.. that's dad," she teased.

Jenny/Charlie

"Your dad doesn't hate anything, I bet he used to smoke so much pot at Woodstock, why else does he have that crazy beard?"

Charlie laughed and finally settled enough to stop walking, although he continued tugging at his collar.

Jenny laughed as she shook her head at him. "I don't know? That's just what he looks like? He's like, a mountain man."

She glanced around as they stopped, somewhere near the far edge of the dance floor. It was a little darker along the wall, and she was momentarily distracted in watching the people dancing. "We should probably get pictures, but I never really thought about how we're going to take nice ones together that aren't.. Facebook angle."
