When it rains, it pours. (Morgaine & Jane)
Merlyn falls from two stories up, slamming through the glass skylight and landing in the pool of the youth center below and has the presence of mind to thank whatever deity rules over this part of the world that it wasn't concrete he slammed into. Granted, with the number of crazy people chasing him right now, he didn't have a lot to be thankful for, but being alive was one blessing he would count over and over again.

He climbs out of the water as quickly as he can, ignoring the sting of his cuts and bruises. One week ago, he'd left Coast City, going on the run after confessing to anyone who would listen that he, and not Green Arrow, murdered the psychopath known as the Artist. Robert didn't care if they wanted him to pay for killing a murderer; laws and courts didn't really appeal or apply to him. The only justice he needed came at the end of an arrow.

Unfortunately, he'd run into another psychopath, two days later, that believed in the same things he did. Only, this psychopath wanted /him/ dead at the end of her sword.

It was rather ironic that his adopted brother's sister was the woman trying to kill him, because Robert killed her father. But even more irksome is that, after nine months of alternately fighting and escaping this particular woman....Robert Queen /still/ does not know her name He suggested to her that she was playing hard to get.

She tried to throw her dagger through his heart.

Funny. That line worked on Jane, once...

Robert felt the same way about cheeseburgers the first time he had one, so he understood Morgan's hesitancy and acceptance.

However, watching the chocolate vanish, he looked at her in shock.

"So many things just became clear to me right now." Robert says.

"And what would those things be?" She asked as she finished off her chocolate.

"The first is that you really /are/ human. That's a lot more shocking than it sounds, but clearly, you've never been hunted for nine months by someone who wants to you dead." Robert says glibly.

Robert is quiet a moment and takes a deep breath before speaking again.

"Did you know that Merlyn came to kill me, and almost did, at the behest of Slade and my mother?" Robert asks.

"I didn't go out gunning after your father. He came at me, and I did what he would have done--what anyone would have done--when confronted by someone who wants them dead.

I took my shot and I won." Robert says. There's no trace of pride or malice in his tone, just the statement of simple fact.

"And I plan to keep winning." he says, looking her in the eye.

"He was still my father," she said. "It is my duty to avenge him, whether he went after you in the first place or not." She says it like she's reciting from a book.

"Is that how you really feel, Morgan? You're an amazing warrior, and the two of us could spend the rest of our lives trying to kill each other. One of us, or both, will die in that attempt.

I'm not ready to die to take you out, personally. Not when I know you're better than what you've been pushed into." Robert said.

"And that father you're trying to avenge, do you remember him? He's the one that shot you in the stomach and nearly killed you a couple of hours ago. /That/ is the man you're trying to kill me over." Robert says.

She tensed, Robert's words hitting close to home. Her father never showed her any signs of affection in the entire time that he was alive. Why was she trying to kill Robert Queen? Why should she avenge the father that hated her?

"I don't need to explain myself," Morgaine said, staring down at the table. "Not to you."

"You don't have to explain yourself to me, Morgan. Just...whatever you choose to do from here on out, make sure you can explain it to yourself when you look back on it." Robert says, taking a deep breath.

Why did he even care? If it was his father, he'd...

that struck him as odd. He used to dream about the moment that he'd kill Oliver for abandoning him in his youth, for tossing him away like trash while providing for others who weren't even his blood.

Now, Robert wasn't sure he could go through with it. Between Keith and Mia, Robert's view on the man had changed, albeit slightly.

"My father never gave a damn about me, either, Morgan. I know where you're coming from. Go ahead and get back to sleep. I'll stay up for watch." he says.
