The world's going to hell...but happy birthday, anyway.
While Lian wasn't exactly in the mood for celebrating (not that she was throwing a huge party or anything, anyway), she wasn't going to let Joey's birthday go by unnoticed. Besides, she wanted something to take her mind off of things, and this certainly would do it for at least a little while.

While Joey had never told her his birthday, she had ways of finding these things out.

Lian brought Joey a case of beer and a couple of skin mags. She went to go find him so she could give them to him and wish him a happy birthday.

GK had seen Jade Arrow heading out, asked, and found out about Joey's birthday.
Well, the guy ought to have a good birthday, no matter how unrequited GK's adoration interest was. GK chipped in for a bottle of Cuervo.

Where else would Joey be but in front of the TV? He was steadfastly avoiding the news for right now, instead watching one of the MTV spring break specials.

Tim enters the room silently and passes Joey a bottle of tequila.

"Happy Birthday. Hope it goes well for you, all things considered." Tim says.

"You ain't bad either," Joey confesses to GK. "Alcohol is always okay."

It was one of the things he could still really taste.

"And a thanks to you, Bird-Man," he told Tim.

"You guys are the best buds a guy like me could have."

"No, Silver. There's no word from the Lanterns yet, so far. I've gotten some intermittent reports from the YJLA and the JSA; they're dealing with the same things that we are. A few news reports I cross-referenced indicate that this occurring world-wide, too. This is global and it's bad.

The best we can do right now is come up with a way to hold down the fort until the Green Lanterns arrive with back-up. And they'll come." he says.
