A more formal apology
Asherah felt bad about the water to the face thing. Really bad because that wasn't how a princess of Atlantis should conduct herself. Nor is it how an ally of Atlantis should be treated. So she decided that a formal apology should be made. She had some guards do the leg work for her as she prepared a nice apology gift.

Then had the guards wait for him outside of his last class for the day. They were to politely escort him to where she was very nervously waiting. Right now all she wanted to do was hide behind her hair. Say she was very sorry for embarrassing him and throwing water at him then leave quickly.

This should be easy.

"Um. With the Titans East. Tell them it's for Ash."

She was doing this for protocol and to feel better. The fact he was going to try and give her something was odd.

"I might be there. I'm going to be in Alantis for a while. We're still rebuilding and I have my studies."

"cool, cool, then. I'll leave it with the Titans East, then. If you're in Atlantis, you'll get it when you get back to them."

"Thank you," she mutters softly pushing the small box at him. It looks like it was hand crafted. Truth be told she had made it because she thought it proper to do so.

"I wasn't sure what to make, as I do not know you at all. But once I was told of your area of study I thought you would be fascinated by Atlantean architecture."

It was a six inch by six inch model of Atlantis and how it should look under water. "This is what you helped save. Thank you, again. For helping us."

Well well well, color Michael impressed. The amount of detail in it is rather impressive, considering it looks like its made of coral rather than proper building materials like clay or steel.

"That's pretty good. You make that yourself?"

She nods slowly.

"Yes, it's not a proper gift if some effort isn't put into it." He looked impressed and that put an odd giddy feeling into her belly she didn't quite understand.

Michael looked over it a bit more intensely. Now he's seeing the flaws, but you know what? It's a gift. Now, he's trying to think of what he could make back. After he did it for Jai, Iris, and then the Shield Guy Ryan not too long ago, a pendant wouldn't be too difficult. Plus a scale model of something...

Hmmm, what does the Titans East building look like?

"Good job there, Princess. You could have been a damn good architect, just by looking at the model you made here."

She could have spelled the flaws away with magic. But then it wouldn't have been as genuine in her mind. She was though happy it had turned out looking so pretty because it had given her something to do between the duties of being the younger Princess.

She smiles dryly and a little sadly. "Princesses don't get to choose their profession, if anything I will be allowed to continue to study magic as it will serve my sister, or whoever inherits the throne."

She had no idea that Cait and Arthur were going to have yet another unhappy discussion.

"Duty is fine and all, but knowing how to do other things is invaluable. I mean look at Hadrian: He was a Roman emperor and an architect and engineer. Having duty doesn't mean that is all you are."

No, he did not intend on that sounding like a bad 80s monologue.

That gets a small laugh from the Princess.

"You sound a little like Cait. I do get to be a mage as I have the gift. I just... know it is likely that because Atlantis is in such turmoil I won't get to do everything I would like to do. I'd love to explore the surface world but Atlantis has to come first."

Why had she said that? That wasn't a good thing to say.

"I'm sorry. I shouldn't have said that... but at least I'm no longer stammering like a child."

"Have you heard Captain Whitebread? Guy can't go a sentence if there's a gal he likes. Stammering happens," Michael says, but the mention of turmoil just makes Michael more serious.

"Hadrian built his wall because of invasions. There was strife, civil war, and all kinds of bad things. And he was still able to do extra. you're a mage, too. Do you like that? Then focus on that as well as your duty."

"I consider it my duty to pursue that though. It's a part of the Atlantean culture. Our history too. And I think it is a shame for someone to have a gift and not use it to help others... Like your studies. I am certain that you will use them to help build things people need. Like a school or something."

She gave him a faint little grin. "Or a wall. But I except that would only come up during your ah, other area of interest."

She was careful, one never knew who was listening and a few people might wonder why a Princess had come to see him.

Good. She didn't bring up the other form right away. When the talk started, the place they were in was essentially empty. Now though...there was starting to be some traffic. Not much right now, but in about an hour it would be packed with kicks moving through.

"Walls, metals, all that jazz. I have some flexibility in my other intrests."

Ash kept looking to where the guards were obviously waiting. But they had spread out. A few of them were drinking water. It was obvious though that they had watched this very closely and the older one seemed pleased.

"See that's.... it's different. I have to learn to translate things. And how to use different kinds of magics. A little different from how urefacers study anyways." Also what she liked to think of as other training that she was hounded at by people who thought she absolutely needed to be the model younger princess.

"Well, I'm not a magic guy, so I can't say anything on that," Michael says as his own gaze goes around. No one he recognizes, aside from the Guards-trying-not-to-be-obvious-guards.

"But as far as i know, magic has some underlying logic. Kind of like building: The materials are different, they react differently in the climate they're in, but have some basic rules in common. Am I right?"

"You're right. The principals of magic are pretty strict sounding but when you get down to the meat and bones they give you lots of wiggle room."

She was smiling over that. He obviously could see the connections. That was a nice surprise.

Wow. He had taken a shot in the dark on that one. He knew a *tiny* bit, but not much.

"That's how it is for just about anything. Architecture, magic, cooking, the whole bit."

"You're right. A lot of it is like chemistry. You have your building blocks, your formulas, and your reactions," she wasn't hiding that delighted slightly nerdy look that was floating just under the surface.

"That's pretty much how everything works. Well except for history but history is different."

She hates studying history. It only reminds her how difficult it is to be an Atlantean. Of course this past year showed her just how hard everything could be the universe had it out for Atlantis.

"Everything builds on what came before. Like coral."

Now he was out of equivalencies. Architecture tended to build to its limit, and if more was needed the old was removed before new was put in its place.

"That's true. History is more a quantification of all that's happened, rather than a discovery of an unknown. Like coral or sediment."

"Quantification?" She tilted her head to one side slightly.

"You mean it's just a summery more or less written to favor whoever is in power, yes? I always found that a little sad and unbalanced."

She finds she is having fun talking to Michael. He's obviously smart and now that she doesn't feel so tense or nervous it's easy to talk.

"A summary of whats happened. There is the discoloring of power, yes. but history does show what has happened. Knowing what has been said, taken with a grain of salt, will yield the truth. Just a matter of patience after that."

Well, the oddity of this situation is now dawning on Michael. he's talking to an Atlantean princess who was being guarded by obvious guards.

This was weird.

And they're all being pretty civil too. The guards have relaxed just enough to let it be known they feel safe-ish letting Ash talk with Michael. Of course that is partly because as a mage right now she has the advantage over him.

"You're right of course."

Realizing that she should go because she does have duties she offers him a small smile.

"I'm sorry to cut this short but I must return to Atlantis. Th.. I have a lot on my plate waiting for me."

"Not a problem, Princess. I know the recent activities would have thrown much of the city into some disorder, so I'll let you be on your way."

Michaels pulls himself up from his place and offers a hand for the princess to help herself up.

"I'm sure all kinds of duty will call you when you get back."

She takes it so she can herself up more with ease. She doesn't quite know what to make of him or the odd flutter in her stomach.

"You're right. Who knows what might happen in the next hour? I sure don't but it will likely lead to more work for someone somewhere."

"Someone with a position of authority, even a minor one, will be swamped. All I can say is think about Hadrian."

She bites her lower lip but it's obvious she is smiling a little.

"Thank you, I'll keep that in mind." She will have to suppress the girlish urge to giggle until she is truly alone.
