Moving in on a kill
Jane was making sure the body armor she was going to wear wouldn't be too noticeable. Then she rolled her eyes wondering why she was being so paranoid. Jake wasn't going to hurt her. But it was still smart to worry about the other guys.

So she made sure that she was in black from head to toe more or less. Nothing reflective. Soft soled shoes so nothing would clatter and an extra gun strapped to the small of her back. She didn't think he would stop her from using it. She didn't intend on killing anyone tonight but it was probably going to happen.

She wasn't going to lie to herself about this. Tonight was going to be dangerous. Hopefully nothing added to it. With that in mind she set out for the building. She took care with everything she did. No one should know about her getting there aside from her partner for the night. So all she had to do was wait for him to show up and she would be ready to move in.

The arrow in his cheek makes it impossible to pull Jane off of him. He feels the clasp loosen and the mask drop free of his face.

It clatters to the ground with the arrow embedded in it, and Donald Kestrel is left with a very nasty, very ugly scar on his otherwise handsome face.

Oh, and Jane clinging to his back. He again tries to reach for the mask and get his advantage back!

"I don't think so asshole," Jane snarls bringing the butt of her gun down across the back of his head.

She is pissed. He butchered so many people here and she will not let him have this mask.

Kestrel goes down like a sack of potatoes as the butt her gun comes down on the back of his skull. He goes down groaning in pain, but does not rise.

Jake just smiles at her. She's an excellent partner, and she has the makings of a world-class fighter.

"Damn. I think it's official. I've seen you fighting for your life, I've seen you eating, laying down the law and simply relaxing." Jake says, counting on his fingers. He's covered in lots of shallow and deep cuts on his arms, and his vest is shredded, but he's standing.

"You're beautiful no matter what you do." he grins.

She can't help it when she blushes again as she climbs to her feet. She was glad that she had kept her cool more or less through out the fight.

And she decides that Jake is pretty much trouble. But she grabs the mask off the floor quickly.

"We should get out of here. The Yakuza are going to be back eventually. As much as I'd like to take care of everything here the only way that could happen is if we called in the Feds or something and I don't know about you but I don't feel like dealing with officials right now."

Not that she ever does if she can help it.

"You've got a point, and I don't have my green card. Let's get out of here." he says.

"Oh, wait. Hold on. I promised myself if I lived through that, I'd do this." he says.

He pulls Jane close and kisses her quickly. The kiss is over almost as soon as it begins, but once it's over, he seems to relax a bit.

"Okay, better now." he says, and starts to hurry from the room.

Jane sputters for a moment. Then gives up on being embarrassed. It wasn't even long enough to be embarrassed or flustered about.

She reminds herself they have to get out of here as she ditches the gun she pulled off the guard earlier and follows after him. They really need to get moving.

Jake feels like garbage, but he and Jane managed to get out of the office building the way they came, and just ahead of the sirens that sound like they're getting closer.

"You mind giving me a ride back near your place? I don't think I can run the whole way just now." he says.

"Yeah. I got some things back there so we can get you cleaned up," Jane says with a nod. "It's not a problem."

She'll help him to her car if he needs it. Otherwise she is going to make sure they get there before the cops are near the area and get them away.

He's mostly able to get into the car on his own. He falls into the passenger's seat and reclines the chair as far back as it can go. No use in getting stopped for having a strange-looking guy with her.

Also, lying down is much more comfortable.

She gets them out of there carefully. She doesn't want them to look suspicious. It helps that she takes a different route to get back to her building.

It's weird to think of that place as home too. She figures she'll figure out what to do with the building in the future. For now she'll focus on closing out this case and making sure her new friend is patched up.

Once they get there she is ready to help him again. He looks pretty beat up in her eyes but it could have been worse she keeps reminding herself.

Jake's been worse off this before. Compared to his mother and Slade, Teufeltiger was a rank amateur in the arts of causing pain. He would never allow either of them see him cry, or be unable to deal with the pain he was in...but at the moment, he allows Jane to help him out of the car, at least.

"Hey, thanks for saving my life tonight. I appreciate it." he says.
