Long Day (Open to Atlanteans and Ty)
It had been the longest day in Cait's life. They had all been up at the crack of dawn today. Today was the day they were going to return Poseidonis to the ocean floor. They all had been up late at night making sure the last minute details were covered.

The city had been evacuated. The citizens had been taken to Cerdia and Tritonis during the week. It wasn't easy emptying a city. Ty and Cait arrived on Thursday and had helped with last minute repairs. It was easier to repair the city while it was on the surface and some structures also needed additional support for the trip down.

Arthur had even called in the JLA to help. She knew Ty could do it, she didn't have a doubt, but it was always wise to have contingency plans and she had agreed with Arthur on this decision. Thankfully the council had been sent to Tritonis and Arthur and Cait didn't have to deal with them during this.

When it was noon it was time to sink Poseidonis.

The Royal Family and Ty were in the water a little away from the city. Cait put all of her focus on the link she shared with Ty and her faith in him. The waters grew choppy and Poseidonis slowly started to sink. It took about two hours from start to finish before Poseidonis was once again on the ocean floor.

The job wasn't over though. They had to go through the city to see if anything had been damaged in the move. Compared to surface cities Poseidonis was small, but it still took them hours to go through it making sure everything was safe.

When they were done and had determined everything was structurally sound Cait and Ty went to Cerdia to inform the Atlanteans could return home. Garth went to Tritonis.

It would take awhile to get everyone back home, but Cait had made sure the first wave returned home safely. Tomorrow there would be more escorting the citizens home.

Cait was overtired but she couldn't sleep. She moved slowly through the gardens. The plants had all died during their stay on the surface and surface and they had been replaced by plants that could survive on the surface. Now they were all dying. They would have to be removed and new plant life would have to be planted. Such was the way of life in ever turbulent Poseidonis.

Ash had been less busy than Cait in some respects. But she had been very excited that Poseidonis was returning to where it belonged. The younger of the two princesses hadn't been happy seeing Atlantis forced to remain of the surface for so long. It worried her to see it like that.

She couldn't sleep due to the excitement of the day. And partly because how confusing her personal life had been for her. She had tried talking about it with Dinah but it had been no use. She finds it troubling that she doesn't think that even Cait would be able to advise her.

Speaking of Cait Ash found herself smiling. "Hello sister. It is good to see you."

"Ash," Cait said with a tired smile. "Can't sleep either?"

She shook her head. "No. I've had a lot on my mind recently and today was a big day."

"It was, but Poseidonis is where she belongs. Now maybe the people will have a better sense of security."

Cait looked out to the new dome and the blue beyond it.

"What's on your mind?" she asked.

She couldn't help but agree. "We aren't meant to live solely on the surface. The ocean is our home. It is where life begins."

Ash looked around her then gave a faint sigh.

"I think I'm confused about myself. Or... I don't know. Boys."

"What's the situation?" Cait asked.

Ash rolls her shoulders as she finds the right words for how to say this.

"I don't have any experience with non-Atlanean boys. Literally no experience with dating at all. I was never really even interested.... back in my home reality I was well aware boys only noticed me because I was a princess." This leaves her shaking her head.

"The thing is, because of that I never 'liked' a boy. And... apparently surface dwelling boys are nice. How do you know it's a crush and not just... nerves?"

"I'm rather fond of surface boys myself," Cait said with a smile as she thought of Ty. She felt him through their bond and sent a feeling of love along the link.

"Honestly, I don't know if there is a way to tell. I do know that if you enjoy being with him, then you should spend time with him. If there's something there you'll know it. If there's nothing there you'll know that too and you'll still have a friend. There's no rush to fall in love. Ty and I were friends and roommates for quite awhile before we realized we had feelings for each other. Sometimes there's instant attraction, like with Arthur and Mother, but sometimes it takes time to develop."

"I think they're more honest," Ashe agreed with a chuckle.

"...That's the best advice anyone's given me. Thanks" She smiled a little more. "Besides, he would be a good friend. Now if only people wouldn't assume things just because of what they think they see."

She tilts her head. "And how on Earth did you get the Council to be so reasonable? When I had to put up with the,m I thought I'd go crazy."

"Well just as many surface guys would chase after a princess as Atlantean guys. They can be equally dishonest."

"People are always going to assume thing," Cait said. "Just ignore them, especially if what they assume isn't true."

Cait shrugged. "I had the means to give them something they wanted. They had the means to give me something I wanted. We reached a compromise. They can be reasonable, sometimes they just need a little time to be so."

Cait didn't like politics, but she had to play the game. She didn't want to, but it was part of what being a ruler and even a future ruler meant.

"Really?" That has her make a face. "But we're not 'important' to surface worlders... or are you talking about their princesses?"

She can't help but smile. "You're right. It doesn't help that I've always been very shy. I can't help it when I get nervous or shy around o-people. It's the stammering that makes it bad."

Ash looked at Cait then nodded. "It's how things work here. I'm glad you got what you wanted. It's good you get to date someone you love."

"They see the title and nothing else," Cait said. There had been a few occasions where a big deal had been made over the Princess of Atlantis. Cait never wanted the attention, but it was there.

"You'll overcome it one day. Stubbornness is a family trait."

"It's politics. I don't want to play the game, but for the sake of my people and my happiness I must."

"I hate that. It's so hard to meet people who see us for us." A dark look passed over Ash's face as she said that. The shy one does in fact have a temper.

"Well I'm getting better. Used to be I even stuttered at you but... I feel comfortable with you. You're family."

She gives Cait a thin smile. "You forget. I had to play the game too. I didn't like it. I don't want to be Queen. I don't think I'm a leader. You are though."

"I'm glad," she said with a smile. "I don't want to be, but I was born to it. Even as a young child I used to gather my "people" around me and issue them orders and proclamations. Cerdian would always make sure the fish wouldn't swim off."

Cait smiled at the old memories. "Of course we tried it with sharks one time and it didn't go so well."

"I just played with them," Ash admitted. "I didn't really have too many play mates as a child. But there was this really sweet old whale my Dad used to take me too. She'd let me climb all over hr. Her family was also really nice. She had this really playful grandson who liked to let me sit on him."

She misses that old Right whale pod. They were so nice.

"I really only had Cerdian to play with and my 'subjects' of course. We generally found trouble on a regular basis and got the lectures to go with it."

"But I guess it helped me learn to do what I need to do. Like leading Atlantis and leading the Titans."

She smiled a little more. "It does sound like you had a great deal of fun. I had fun but.... I guess it's always been difficult for me to relax. And I feel like I don't know how to lead, either."

"I felt the same when I led the Titans," Cait admitted. "I didn't feel like I knew what I was doing. I just had people do what I thought needed to be done." Cait shrugged. "I didn't want to lead, but Arthur said he wasn't surprised that I did lead because it's what I was born to do. I guess all that practice as a kid paid off."

"Well," Ash said slowly. "I never thought I would take the lead. I was happy knowing I could just be myself... which back home was a bit more difficult than you would think. Here things are different."

She can't help but smile. "I like Egypt. At night. Cairo is.... sort of pretty. Have you ever been there?"

She bounces on her heels slightly suddenly in a good mood. "I also saw a little bit of Tokyo. That was... interesting."

Cait smiled at Ash's enthusiasm. "I haven't. All of my time on the surface is spent between working and Titans stuff. Atlantis is now taking a big chunk of time as well." Cait gave her a small smile. "I also don't like flying much. I'm prone to getting sick when flying."

"Have you ever tried to learn magic, Cait? Teloportation spells are.... handy." She can't help but wonder if actual flying would make her queasy.

She decides she'll try not to find out. It would be aweful.
