We Wish You a Merry Christmas (Outsiders)
It was the season of joy and togetherness and this year faces that had been missing last year had returned. It was a time to celebrate and a time to enjoy the company of friends and loved ones. Decorations and lights gave the atmosphere a festive spirit and the Outsiders would come together to celebrate.

Party for The Guys
[info]veryperceptive

GK cooked -- quite a bit -- for a little holiday party for the guys before he and Zoe and Zoe's Mom headed up to the Walker homestead. (To which Eli was invited; he absolutely was, but GK understood if this little party would be the last he'd see his boyfriend for a couple of days.)

If the guys had been able to name a food to GK in advance, and the ingredients could be legally obtained on the West Coast, it was there.

"So... do I need to bring presents?" Eli asked sticking his head out of the bedroom.

"Only if you really want to!" GK says excitedly. "If so, I'd be happy to help shop if you needed."

"Well, fine, bring logic into it." GK giggles. You want to get me something, I'm sure I'll love it. If not, that's okay, too. Totally up to you, gorgeous."

There came a knocking on the door. Joey had said, what the heck, why not, when it came to free food.

He'd also brought the booze.

Zoe was about five minutes behind Joey, and deliberately waited so she wouldn't looked like she was arriving with him.

She brought cheesecake to the party.

There's a startled angel squeek at the hug, but it's returned.

BOoooze will be most welcomed, yes.

Orgo arrived next, looking almost comical in a massive trenchcoat and fedora. It made it easier to fool passerbys if he was wearing human clothing. He really didn't know what to bring to such an event, so he fell back on a fruit basket.

There's a sigh and a slightly pained expression at the sight of the booze. "Try to take it slow, okay, Eli?"

And then he's greeting the others, much appreciative of the cheesecake and the fruit, setting them up as desserts after the dinner, slipping Joey a calendar of perfectly-coiffed women on perfectly-finished cars and Orgo a few books on American culture. Zoe'll get her presents later.

And he'll get an okay-I-trust-you smile as GK goes about turning on some pleasantly festive music -- the Transiberian Orchestra, specifically -- and surving up some good food.

Joey didn't admit to knowing any of these guys so well, but hey, deep pockets, so he'd gone with gift certificates. Can't go wrong with those.

"Hey, thanks, pal," he told GK.

Home For Christmas
[info]veryperceptive
2011-12-28 02:46 am UTC (link)
GK clutched at Eli's hand all the way to the Walker homestead, although he'll make pleasant conversation with Zoe and Ms. Torres all the way. With multiple mentions of how much Grandma is definitely going to like her, seriously. He can tell she's worried. Jed, once he met them in Seattle, echoed this.

And then, there they are. For a family of three adults and one not-really-a-child-anymore, the house was huge, and generally resembled some English country estate set smack into Washington State.
GK's Mom --who definitely, definitely looked more like an older sister -- and Grandma Walker came out to meet them.

"I guess that was a plus?" Zoe asked, looking up at the house and wondering how a couple of people could live in something so big. "GPS in your slippers, right?"

She got a nudge from her mother in a not so subtle hint to behave herself.

Michelle shook her head, although she had to admit that for Zoe, the comment was actually friendly. If she had to guess, she'd say that her fearless daughter was feeling a little bit of fear at not fitting in.

She linked her arm with Zoe's. "It's a beautiful house, GK."

"It was a rough time, with a lot of Weird Stuff, and she needed her space." GK smiles at Ms. Torres. "Thank you, Ma'am." He then goes wide-eyed. "Three days? How did you not starve?"

And soon it is Introduction Times! "Michelle, you remember Rosie," says Jed. "Mom, this is Michelle."

"So good to meet you!" Grandma Walker says cheerfully.
"See, Mom, she does exist!" Rose says teasingly. "And this must be Eli.. Hello!"

"So good to finally meet you. Nice to see the Walker Luck finally change." She smirks as she shakes his hand warmly.

And Grandma Walker turns, blinks at the wings considerably more than her children did, then just turns and ruffles GK's hair. "Well isn't that interesting," like she's never seen any type of metahuman person in her life. It's more utter naivete than being uncomfortable with it, though. "Miranda Walker."

"Wonderful! Has Gilbert found a lot of hair things that work on feathers yet?"

"Well, that's too bad," Rose says. "I remember little Alvin McNamara, he was GK's first 'boyfriend,' and his mothers hadn't spoken to me in years, but they called to ask what precisely, GK had done with their son's hair and how could they do it."

GK looks mortified.

"And what he's done with her closet is nothing less than a miracle. Now I see color when I open it instead of solid black."

Behind her, Zoe closed her eyes, took a deep, slow breath and reminded herself that Mom was happy and that was all that mattered.
