Cait couldn't put off any longer. It was time to grab the shark by the tail and tell her parents of her engagement to Ty. She had thought long and hard about how to do it and the best way seemed to be that she tell her mother first and then tell Arthur.

She fully expected Arthur to go ballistic and be banished from Atlantis again. Of course that was if Arthur didn't lock her up and keep her under lock and key. No matter how it went it wouldn't end well. For a few moments she had thought about taking Pippi with her, but that would feel too much like cheating and Cait knew she would feel guilty afterward for manipulating Arthur.

Taking Ty along with her was totally out of the question. On a good day Ty had tenuous control over his powers. Around Arthur that control was almost non-existent. Ty already brought Atlantis to the surface and almost destroyed it in the process. This time she was sure Atlantis wouldn't survive.

Cait entered Atlantis with the usual fanfare (she hated it) and went to find her mother. Divide and conquer. Or at least divide and have an ally to keep Arthur from killing her.

The gods bless her mother. Though Arthur not going ballistic was a mild surprise.

"Being engaged to Ty will not change or interfere with my duties to Atlantis. I will still do whatever is required of me and will continue our current arrangement for me to be in Atlantis."

"We're not in a rush to get married." If they had been they would have gotten married and then told Mera and Arthur. "I swear to Poseidon and all of the other gods that we will not get married without your knowledge."

He can still hope some catastrophe will show her what a bad idea this is before then, right? He looks to his wife, then back to Cait.

"I'm not willing to destroy the progress we've made on arrangements over this. So, as long as you're aware I do not approve of this, and this is purely out of hope you'll still come to your senses... I won't interfere." That's as far as he's willing to go.

"You have your promise and your witness, Cait," Mera said. She leaned over to put her hand on Arthur's shoulder and squeeze it reassuringly. It was quite a day for their family. There was hope for them yet.

"We continue on as we are. I'm very proud of you both for behaving like adults."

Cait didn't expect Arthur's blessing, but this was more than she had expecting. If she had to be honest she had been expecting banishment from Atlantis or volunteering to step out of the succession so she could be with Ty.

"It's acceptable," Cait said. Her feelings for Ty would never die or diminish, but that was something that she'd keep to herself right now. Just getting this much from Arthur had been a lot and could be considered a victory.

To say that Arthur is unhappy about this is an understatement. He wants to explode, to forbid this, and kick her out til she comes to her senses. But he knows that could well lose him the daughter he just regained, and his wife would never forgive him.

Even Arthur Curry can learn some things in his old age.

His scowl still speaks volumes though. "Is that it?"

The scowl didn't phase Cait. She had seen a lot of scowls from Arthur over the years. "Do you want there to be more?" she asked with a raised brow.

She considered telling him about Ash having a boyfriend, but that was something her sister could tell him herself.

"No."

He's had quite enough for one day.

"Now, if the two of you would hug or shake hands, I'll feel as if our family survived another day. Less stress for me. Less hard water for the two of you."

Cait restrained herself from giving her mother an 'are you kidding' look and held her arms open to Arthur. She wouldn't disrespect him by offering her hand for a handshake. Cait did love him very much.

He's still scowling - scowling oh so much. But he gives her a hug. That, he can do. Its partly because of the realization of just how close he's come to losing her twice in recent times that he's at all sensible now.

Cait hugged her father. She too realized how close in recent times she had come to losing him.

She kissed his cheek. "Thank you and I do love you."

"If I didn't try your patience I wouldn't be your daughter," she pointed out as she released him.

He quirks a brow. "Don't push it." he says - but there's a bit of humor behind it. A very, very tiny bit.

"I know we both like to deny it, but Mom is right when she says we're a lot alike."

It was a prickly topic. Cait liked to think she wasn't as obstinate, stubborn or temperamental as her father, but when it came down to it she was. Things may have be easier between her father and her if Cait had been more like Mera.

He smirks. "Yes. Both blonds." he agrees. Since, as far as he's concerned, he's only stubborn, obstinate and temperamental for a good cause - wheras Cait is entirely unreasonable. But she's young.

"Oh, far more than hair color, I assure you both," Mera said lightly. A nudge here, a thinly veiled threat there, and family harmony was achieved.

"Since I have no other bombs to drop, I will take my leave with your Majesty's permission and leave the two of you to do things things I don't want to know about."

Cait gave her mother a hug. "Thank you," she whispered in Mera's ear.

He glances at his wife, one eyebrow raised. This conversation has already pushed him to pretty near the detonation point. Being teased about short tempers and irrationality is not the best of ideas just now - especially since, of course, he's entirely rational and in the right here - but humoring his tempestuous daughter.

"Of course, Caitria."

Cait bowed deeply to both of them and then left the suite, shutting the doors behind her.
