I Get Knocked Down, But I Get Up Again
Huntress dropped down from the roof into the alley right in the middle of six guys. She had been tracking these weapons runners for days and they had all finally gathered in one spot. Time to take them out. She landed on her feet and immediately delivered a spinning kick to one guy's head. He stumbled back into the brick wall.

Three of the other five closed in while two stayed back. Two who stayed back drew guns and the other three drew knives and closed in. A knife came in and tried to slash Huntress across the stomach. The blade bounced off her costume.

Another with a knife came in and tried to stab. Huntress spun around and knocked the man's hand away with a blow to his forearm. The last man with a knife didn't attack with the knife, but went for a leg sweep. Huntress was off balance to avoid it and had her legs knocked out from under her. She went down and automatically went into a roll and came up near one of the men with the guns.

She punched him right in the face and smiled when she heard the crack of his nose breaking. The other man with the gun came up behind her and hit her across the face with the butt of his gun. Her nose broke and she fell to the ground. Blood poured from her nose as she tried to pull herself up.

"I'll keep getting back up," she growled and kicked at him, hitting him square in the balls.

"Girl's gotta have something to do." Yes, there was a large smirk on her face.

Despite everything, he's amused - he probably did need to lighten up and all, and some of her schemes are kind of amusing.

"Fighting crime and running a multibillion dollar company isn't enough?"

"Please. I'm not even close to running the company yet. That's /years/ away if ever."

"Of course. So, as involved with the company as Bruce can manage to get you."

Maria nodded. "Something like that. I'm resisting as much as possible, but it's kind of hard saying no to him."

He nods. "And it can't be all bad. After all, it provides you a lot of the tools you use, plus supports a lot of your lifestyle... and probably some useful contacts if you're going to keep up the heroing long term."

"I know," she said. She was fully aware of the price tag that came with doing what she did. "It's just the whole responsibility thing. It's like asking someone if they want a root canal for laughs."

He nods, staying pretty positive about it. "I know. No fun, but even if you never take it all over the way he wants, knowing some of its ins and outs could save lives."

"I know," she said. "I'm just going to resist as long as I can, but I know I'll eventually be all responsible and stuff."

"Nah, I figure, at best, 20 percent responsible. You're one of those people I'm pretty sure is never going to lose sight of who you are."

Maria shrugged. First she had to figure out who she was. She hadn't be successful so far.

"I suppose we'll see."
