Shadows in the Night
Rutland, Vermont

Though Victoria was capable of long distance travel on her own, and of bringing other people with her when required, she had, instead, opted for Zachary's spells in taking them there. A bit more obvious, perhaps, but also a good test of their enemy's reactions.

Frankly, Victoria was occasionally of the opinion that Rutland out to be razed to the ground and then mystically erased from memory. Too many times over the years she'd been doing this, the trail had led back to this sleepy little town. It had exactly two things going for it: a super-hero themed Halloween parade, and mystical phenomena.

"Be on your guard," she told the others. "I am sensing... something."

Zach nods. "You and Sally can hang back." He assures them. "If we can, we beat the bushes and you put yourselves in the way of whatever comes running out. Mike first." He takes out a wand, rubbing one end against his palm as if he were chalking a billiards cue, at which it bears a spark.

"Let's go in. I'll take point. Mina behind me, and Victoria, you guard the rear."

They will find their path unimpeded as they make their way to the church. Any who enter will notice two things. First, a pale man sitting up front, dressed in white and gold robes lined with peacock feathers. The second is an object within a glass case, encapsulated in some form of mystic energy. The man stands and turns to face the team, revealing a golden mask covering most of the left side of his face.

"Welcome. I imagined someone would make their way here."

"Ah yes, I have heard of the Zatara family." The man walks calmly with a seemingly serene expression on his face. However, there is a hint of something disturbing in his eyes. "Quite well, thank you. I am Kefka. While I prefer Lord Kefka, I don't expect perfect strangers to know proper titles."

He walks over to the podium, running his hand across the orb, energy dancing across his fingers as he did so. "You're here regarding the mayhem outside, yes?"

"It'd be rather foolish to do something without knowing the results of one's actions," Kefka replied matter-of-factly. "And I suspect I know more about the Lords of Chaos and Order than you will ever know, but do not despair children. This is not permanent. However, I do insist you wait for a couple more minutes." Kefka looks up at the heavens with a smirk. "I estimate they will take action soon."

"The Lords of Order move at their own pace, my dear. I could not 'hurry them along' anymore than you could walk on the ocean floor." He raised an eyebrow at Victoria before chuckling merrily. "Make me you say? Splendid. It's been a long time since I've tested my power against true magicians."

He moves and stands with legs spread. He lifts a hand to gently coax the heroes.

"Come then."

"I believe I already explained how this could be resolved peacefully," Kefka reminded. "but you declined. Hmm," he closes his eyes a moment. "Now it hardly seems fair that your friends must remain outside. Perhaps we should join them." He raises his hands up, a strange energy erupted from his hands, briefly bathing the inside of the church. When the light clears, they will find themselves outside with Mike and Sally. "There, much better."

	Mina brings up a hand. Being brought out here was unnerving but she could handle this. A light pole suddenly bends and twists trying to grab Kefka to restrain him. That little bit of magic is tricky. She finds the 'coding' for something like that in unusual for her magically. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

	Better not to pull out the heavy ordinance too quickly. Zach settles on some kinetomancy, sending out tethers of energy and grabbing onto stray heavy objects. He swings his wand, and the tethers flex and then tighten, working like a massive flail. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

Kefka's smirk grew, his body glowing an eerie pale color. Victoria's blasts collided with a barrier brought up without even a word from the masked man. Mina's magic brought the pole to wrap around Kefka, but the metal suddenly seared red, the metal burning into liquid around him. Zahary's projected objects flew at Kefka. He casually raised his hands, the objects stopped moving in mid-flight, falling to the ground. He sees Mike heading for him, extending a hand outward as Mike's blow collided with it. Kefka was driven back as the blow caused him to drag across the ground, but otherwise he looked unharmed.

He looked at the group with an eerily serene smile. "My turn." Mystic power erupted between his hands, the ground tearing apart from the force. "Catch." His hands shot out, sending a massive force of mystic power at the group.

	Victoria threw up a hand, deflecting some of the attack, but she let out a scream as it overpowered even her defenses. She clutched her smoking hand, the burned skinned sizzling in the cool night air. Whoever this Kefka was... he was far more powerful than she expected. Zach flails backwards, taking off his hat and tapping one side of it with his wand. A vortex pulls up several of the stray bolts of magic, as he tries to protect the less battle-experienced members. He's thrown onto his back from the recoil of the spell though.

As Victoria points out, however, the magic is overbearingly indicative of Order. As stable as a mountain. That much raw power, if chaotic, would have ripped apart his hat's enchantments at the seams. No pun intended.

"No... I'm fairly certain he's got more, Blood. Thankfully--" Zach taps the opposite side of the hat, even as he gets up to one knee. "--so do we." He braces the hat in the crook of his arm like a miniature cannon, preparing to fire the energy back.
