Founders Day Parade and Celebration
The Founders Day Parade and Celebration was one of the biggest celebrations in Gotham. It was a day where the citizens of Gotham came out and showed their pride in their city. The festivities started in the morning at City Hall with a speech from the mayor and continued throughout the day. The largest parade of the year was held in the afternoon and fireworks lit up the sky in the evening. Merchants and restuarants set up kiosks on the sidewalks and the citizens shopped and ate as they watched the day's activities.

The day would also celebrate the victory of Anthony Sullivan in the mayoral race and it would be his first speech as mayor. The speech he gave was short, but had the citizens cheering by the end. The sun climbed into the sky and the parade started. Floats, marching bands and various other groups marched in the parade as it made its way through the streets of Gotham.

Maria continued to sit up. She wasn't going to look weak by lying in the bed. "So now what? We work together to bring the Joker in and then....?"

"We're not even to that step yet. You need to talk to your people, and I need to talk to mine. Neither of us are in this alone, and neither is used to giving ground. And that was fine before... but now, that will get people killed.

Then you rest and recover while we put down some eyes and ears. Because you and Robin going in half-broken will get you both killed... and any of us going in blind will also get all of us killed. This isn't about territory or ego anymore. Not with these stakes. Because most of the bad guys want money or power or whatever. The Joker wants one last showdown with Batman... and he'll burn down everything til he gets it. And due to the fact you showed up, I'm guessing that's just not going to happen for whatever reason."

Maria shook her head. "Batman is retired, at least the one the Joker wants. Someone may step up and take up the cape and cowl, but I don't know when that's going to happen. I'll talk to Robin and the others I know that operate in Gotham, but what did you mean by your people? How many do you have?"

"One's your sister, right?" she asked. It was hard reconciling him with Tomas when he had the mask on. Was it possible to not like a person and like them at the same time?

He's asking himself the same thing. He likes Maria, but as predicted, when it was someone else in Gotham, Huntress was all humor and sunshine and working together, but the instant it was personal, she pulled the home field crap. He cares way more for Maria than he's willing to admit - but doesn't trust Huntress a bit. Which is part of how he managed to miss the connection.

"Yeah, and the other might as well be."

"I'll talk to my people and you talk to yours and we'll come up with a plan to take care of the Joker."

Her stomach flipped a little.

"So what about us?" she asked hesitantly. "We both said never again when wearing masks. We said no such thing when not wearing masks."

"In costume, well until we got pissed at each other again. Out, the next time we saw each other."

She sighed. It hurt to do so.

"The masks complicate everything, don't they?"

"No. The masks make it possible to do what we do at all in Mexico. And in many cases, up here as well. Most of the time, they're just part of who we are. Our civilian identities are mostly the covers, not the other way around... in this case, though... yeah. Masks. And legacies."

"It's a good start, young padawan," Maria said. "There's still much more to learn." Like how he was one of the very few guys she saw again after the one night stand. He intrigued her and she found herself looking to their next meeting. At least out of costume. In costume was usually different.

He's in total agreement on that front. She's a lot of fun out of costume. In costume, she likes to think she's exciting and different, but comes across like every other Bat when it gets personal - and history has shown how that works out.
