Let This Be Your Last Battlefield
The small planetoid was uninhabited and nothing more than a rock in space rolling around double stars. It was the most unassuming place, but it would be the site of a battle that would determine the fate of the universe.

And he finally makes a mistake. And a big one.

That particular maneuver is a favorite of the Hulk's. Her least favorite sparring partner. She's still quite sure she's unhappy about having had to fight the Hulk enough times to have started learning his moves, but there it is.

She doesn't need to think about it, luckily. The counter is automatic. Duck inside easy reach, drop to one knee for solid base, shield up to block the axe-handle chop, hammer in an upward swing, first shot to Thanos' gut, then a follow up under the chin.

	Thanos was caught completely off guard. The blows connect and he got hit once, then again and went flying backwards. He hit the ground and skidded to a stop. It was a few seconds before he started to climb to his feet. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

A few seconds gives her the time she badly needed to recover. Much as she'd liked to have been right back at him while he was stunned, she's not in a lot better shape herself. Luckily, with the power gem, she recovers quickly.

As he's clambering to his feet she flings the hammer, but its just the lead in. She's less than half a second behind it, flying after her hammer throw, leading with the shield.

	Thanos was in the process of getting to his feet when the hammer came flying in. It struck him square in the face. Then came the strike from the shield. That connected against the side of his head. Thanos was the strongest Eternal, but even he had to obey the laws of physics. The force of the blows knocked him back down to his feet. He struck out blindly. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

	Using the shield as a weapon means it isn't in ideal position for defense. His combat instincts are also solid. He connects, sending her flying, skidding along the ground to land in a heap, struggling back to her feet. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

	Last time she was on Anya and Molly's world they made sure she was caught up on Star Wars, so the situation resonates a little. Sadly, there's no Darth Vader this time to intervene. Under the assault, and ground down, its all she can do to lift the hammer and bring it down twice, calling down the lightning at the mad Titan. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

	When the lightning stopped and he could see again, it was too late to see the hammer coming. It struck and Thanos was knocked back a few steps. The Mad Titan bellowed his frustration and anger and lashed out with cosmic energy. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

	This time she fights more traditionally, using the shield to defend, the hammer as primary offense. She takes the blast on the shield. For a few seconds she's pushed back, then the power gem glows brightly, and she begins forcing her way forward, stepping into the blast and deflecting it off the shield while she begins spinning the hammer, building up a new charge. That almost succeeds a couple times. Initially she's caught off guard, feeling some part of herself pulling away from her. She fights back with the mind and reality gems, using two gems to fight off the more trained effects of one. Even still, its a battle within the larger fight as she continues to close quarters with him even as the heat from the building ultimate strike begins scarring and burning her arm faster than the power gem can heal the wounds, and the hammer begins glowing almost too bright to look at. She would have long since lost control of the energies had she not had the power gem.

A couple times her advance stops, she even backslides here and there, but each time, she digs in again, forcing the shield into the path of the energy beam.

"You... can't... win."

He should have kept up the effect before. This time, when pressed, she's ready for it. When he swings, despite the speed boost, due to the space gem, she's further away than it looked.

She can't fight off the time gem's effect entirely while also fighting the soul gem, and needs both gems to counter his one... but even in slow motion, the space gem interacts with the power gem to try and make the ultimate strike close the gap and connect anyway, the distance between herself and Thanos expanding and contracting as his swing leads him to step into the super-slow-mo hammer throw, Mjolnir glowing with energies even it couldn't contain without the power gem, mystical energy, lightning and the raw energy of the power gem all cascading and crackling around the hammer as it flies very slowly at Thanos, continually correcting its course and distance no matter how fast he dodges.

Its sort of like those old monster movies. The heroes may be running, moving stuff behind them. The monster just plods along, seemingly further and further behind - and yet they're always there somehow, the hammer just continuing to come at the mad Titan, inch by inch, in Hollywood slow motion.

Thanos was not expecting that. The hammer struck and it felt like the burning of a million suns. The Titan screamed as the cosmic energy met with mystical energies, lightning and energy from the power gem. For a brief moment at the center of destruction it was calm and then all hell broke loose.

Thanos was on fire as he went flying backward. He hit the ground with enough force to put him a few feet below the surface.

The resulting explosion sends Sarah flying as well. Her right arm is still blackened from the build up, and now she's more than a little singed in general as the hammer flies back to her.
Thankfully, the power gem keeps her conscious, even if barely, and testing even its power. Likewise, the mind gem helps keep her lucid. Likewise, barely.

Even so, it takes a few moments for her to realize she's the only one standing.

Stumbling, she moves to try and collect the two gems before Thanos can recover.

	Death approached the spot there Thanos lay. He wasn't dead, but she was going to collect him and take him away. There was a small place for him in her cold heart. Sarah would be able to collect the gems since Death has no interest in them. She collected Thanos and disappeared. (Reply to this)(Parent)
