These Things Happen To Other People.
It was a very small room, with a very small bed, and nothing on the walls but a couple of hooks on which he had hung a 12th-Century arming-sword.

Exodus was deep in thought, his hands folded on his chest as if in prayer... or death.

Quite interesting indeed. A pity there were no cellular samples of Magneto during his period of powerlessness. If Hank were a gambling man (and, in fact, he was. Ben was throwing a poker game in the near future), he would bet that if such had ever existed, Exodus would have made certain they were destroyed and all records of them stricken.

Hank keyed up the scanner. "You'll probably be able to detect the energy fields of the scanner, but they are quite harmless."

"It will take a few moments, and then I will need to draw some blood."

He could do more than detect the energy fields if he wished but he closed his eyes and sat passively waiting for the examination to be over.

"I would be interested to know if there is a difference from before I lost my powers and now. The High Evolutionary did not give me any raw data on what state I was in after the procedure." Honestly knowing his powers were returned and at full or better than full capacity from before he hadn't questioned much.

"I assume you still have your data from my various encounters with you and Moira?"

"Of course," Hank said. He punched a few keys on his portable control pad. "If you will direct your attention to the monitors above... The one on the left contains the last scan taken of you prior to today; the right contains the current scan."

He adjusted his glasses so he could have a better look himself.

He had seen similar scans before so he read some of the relevant data to compare it. Basic health and such things seemed very similar as before.

"I am never quite sure what to expect after so many enormous changes to my cells." The initial damage he did to himself with his powers, being turned into an infant and then back to an adult in the prime of life and losing and regaining his powers. It could have set up some disastrous chain of events but never had seemed to yet.

Hank's own mutatation has been rather on-going. Which reminded him... his own research, at one time, was a hormonal extract which allowed anyone to become a mutant. Its use led to his own furry state, progressed further by a "secondary mutation." Perhaps it was time to revist that research...

"Cells were not, in general, meant to undergo such rapid metamorphosis. Those few who have survived such processes are hearty individuals indeed. As you appear to be. Your powers and health seem quite comparable to previous scans."

"It is not the first time I have survived something that would have killed others after all." He didn't clarify just exactly which time that was since there were many to choose from.

"I would not imagine many would survive the High Evolutionary's treatment. It was not...pleasant."

Magneto certainly has a habit of returning from circumstances that would have been certain death for others. Though Hank supposed many of the so-called "super-villains" had performed similar resurrections. Steve certainly spoke of the Red Skull in such a manner often enough.

"I imagine not," he said, as he readied the needle for the blood draw. "If you would permit me..."

Since the scan was over he held out his arm and the small pieces of metal that made up his costume crawled back up his arm to leave the crook of his arm bare.

"Of course."

Hank went out his job carefully and cautiously, but with the precision and expediency that comes with long practice.

"I must admit," Hank said, "your choice of compatriots surprises me."

And here is the less casual of a question of course. There was no movement from his arm while the blood was drawn since he was trying to be helpful.

"Why? I would think that almost nothing about me surprised you anymore to be honest."

Hank finished with drawing the blood.

"Honestly? I would have thought bringing him to the heart of the "enemy" stronghold would have tried even Exodus's legendary loyalty."

"Then you do not understand him very well." He held the little bit of cotton to the needle hole to put pressure on it for a moment to make sure it wouldn't bleed.

"The enemy stronghold is what I say it is. And I have declared you and the others to be our allies."

How strange indeed. Hank can't help but think back to the time Professor Xaiver had placed Magneto in charge of the school and the New Mutants. Scott had walked away, and the rest of them, including the newly resurrected Jean, had formed X-Factor largely out of their distrust of the man, in spite of their one-time mentor's faith.

Exodus, clearly, was more loyal than they. But was such loyalty truly earned, or the mere product of fanaticism? And how long would that truly last, if Magneto made choices Exodus did not approve of?

It felt, to Hank, very much like a pressure cooker.

"As you said," Hank said, neutrally. He checked over his results. "I believe I have everything I need, thank-you."

And he had to explain to a young man's parents why their child was dead when he was in charge of the school. Charles had too much trust in him at the time perhaps.

He understood Exodus' loyalty and need for someone to help guide him. He would watch over him and make sure nothing put the pressure on that high.

With a sketchy smile he stood and his sleeve crawled back down his arm to cover it. "You are welcome. Please let me know if you need anything else."

"I will, thank-you," Hank said, politely.

Amazing. A conversation with Magneto that was both civil and not followed by fighting. Would wonders never cease?
