The End is Nigh! (Horsemen vs the White Knights and Iason)
"We interrupt this regularly scheduled program to bring you this breaking report. It seems like a giant, what can only be called a citadel, rose from the very ground itself and covered almost the entire area of Central Park just moments ago. The monstrosity seems to be composed completely out of stone and there are no discernible entrances. What appears to be people on flying robotic horses circle the citadel. Who built this and to what end has yet to be discovered."

Death rides her horse down towards one of the invaders, cackling as she rides.

Death vs. Marvel Girl

Rachel was probably the youngest of the assembled to fight Apocalypse, if not necessarily the least experienced. She can't even say she's never been in a fight where the stakes were this big, having been involved in the battle with the Deviants. But still.

With the others delivered to their targets, the last one fell to her. She unleashed a telekinetic blast at Death.

She shatters like glass from the force...

...then reforms, glass shards poking out at lethal angles. She leads her horse towards Marvel Girl, then leaps off at her, hoping to grab hold with her sharpened hands and slash at her throat.

That... didn't usually happen.

Fortunately, telekinetics were quite good at distance fighting. Rachel pushed herself backward through the air, unleashing more tk-pulses.

The glass scatters from her pulses... and several shreds fly directly towards her as the glass shatters, in a painful hail of jagged glass blades.

Rachel threw up a telekinetic force field, but the shards were moving fast, too fast for her to deflect all of them. Some were blocked, but others made their way through her screen of metal energy.

A couple slashed across her bare arms and legs, leaving painful gashes, but another buried itself in her shoulder, all causing her to scream in pain and drop in flight.

The free-flying shards reform into a humanoid shape, landing atop the flying horse again, leaving the one shard in her shoulder behind... and it begins to laugh, a hollow, glassy sound, as Rachel falls.

"You've been touched by death, girl," it chimes, a eerie feminine voice. "And that means... you are already dead. You just don't know it yet..."

And the shard in her shoulder begins to slowly dig its way deeper in... heading towards her heart...

It hurt. Dear God, did it hurt. She couldn't even seem to grip it with her TK, like it was slippery, repelling her power.

Rachel could barely keep herself in the air. And yet, at the same time, she felt a fire in her veins that she could barely explain.

"I..." she began, weakly, but then gaining more confidence. Her Phoenix eye-flare grew brighter, psionic flames wrapping around her. "I am not dead. I am life.

"All life dies, girl," Death replies. The glass shard digs deeper, even as Death rides her pale horse closer and closer towards Rachel...

It still hurt, but less so now. Pure power seemed to be flowing through Rachel, power she instinctively knew, power that at once thrilled and scared her.

"The Phoenix may die, but it does not remain so. I am beyond your power to touch." The words were her voice, but different, almost coming from somewhere other than herself.

She gestured and unleashed a blast of psionic flame, like the wing of a celestial bird.

The glass body shatters again, but unlike last time... this time, the reformed shard-body is doubled over in pain from the strike.

"Life... dies... at my touch!" Death insists.

The shard in Rachel's body makes a last ditch effort to reach her heart, burrowing as quickly as it can...

Psionic fire flared around her and in her, the shard within vaporizing without a trace.

She brought both hands forward. "Then die." The Phoenix manifestation was in full effect now, a corona of a flaming bird around her, with wings of flame that swooped in to destroy the Horseman.

The figure shatters, glass raining down to the ground below.

The glass puddles, then reforms into a young girl in her late teens, unconscious on the ground.

The power having served its purpose, the Phoenix-effect fades, leaving Rachel suspended in the air for a moment, before she falls to the ground, barely slowing her fall with her TK power.

"What... what the hell was that?"
