Beach Magic (Open)
Dawn, in the form of Asleif, stood on the beach, practicing spells.   She couldn't even begin to understand the theory involved here, or any of the ancient lore or any of that.  All she knew was that if she could focus on something happening clearly enough--within a very specific realm of effects--the staff and whatever innate magical power Asleif had possessed, could make it happen.

Power bolts were easy, just point and shoot.  But just about anything else, force fields, tractor beams, elemental command, teleporting, illusions, just about anything Asleif could do, that was harder.  Some of it she'd probably never get.

"<i>Shieldshieldshielshieldsheild,</i>" she chanted, concentrating.  Slowly, but surely, a mystical shield shimmered into existance in the air before her, before fading back into nothingness.  Too slow to form, too quick to fade to have offered any protection.

She stamped the handle of the staff on the ground once in a very specific, precise motion, and with a crack of thunder and light, reverted back to herself, the staff changing into an umbrella.

"I am never going to be able to do this," she said to herself.  "I'm no goddess. I'm not a super-hero.  I don't know what I'm doing here."

At least the nightmares had stopped, since she'd been able to transform back and forth.

"I noticed that," Dawn said. "Not much of an outdoors type, huh?"

Not that she'd exactly been one either, but at least she'd hadn't been afraid of stepping outside or going to the beach.

"Not really. Though a little sun wouldn't hurt her much. She'd look nice with a tan."

Aslief would kill him. "She wast when she was small. Our parents couldst barely keep her out of the water, unless she wast in her pink princess dresses. But past when she began reading heavily... nay, she hast kept mostly to herself."

Dawn giggled a little at that. It was hard to imagine Asleif as the pink type.

"She might," Dawn reflected. "Though I'm not exactly comfortable spending big amounts of time as her yet."

Grace blinked. "Asleif had a pink princess dress? Seriously?"

She nodded. "Yeah. I could see where spending time as a different person for a long amount of time would be freaky."

He nods. His sister was going to skin him. "Aye, her pink pricness dress and her stuffed owl wert her favorites. It went with her everywhere. Methinks she must still own it somewhere. But aye, it must be quite difficult to come to good terms with. If I canst help thee, but let me know."

"Thank-you, Halbjorn," Dawn said. "I will."

Even if I can't have what I really want.

"Going to keep practicing," she said, "but I dunno when I'll be good enough to be any help to you guys."
