Trying that outside life thing...
With the summer stretching ahead of her, Sammy had to do something other than help clean the hydrobase and train. She told her parents she wanted the summer to relax and suspected relaxing meant a little more than wasting a few thousand rounds at the shooting range. A girl didn't get a life with a pair of noise-canceling headphones on.

She found her first outside activity in the paper. Rooftop Films seemed like it might be fun, and it was something she didn't need a date to see. The open bar afterward would be decided on when the time came.

That he didn't ask where or what surprised her, but in a nice way. She still wasn't sure how she felt about it.

"Raspberry lemonade, with vodka instead of rum, please."

At least one of them would be completely sober, which is where they went wrong in touring Europe's flesh clubs with Sarah. Sammy still didn't believe that girl in Amsterdam kissed her.

The drink satisfied her sweet tooth with a hit of alcohol to relax her. "Did you decide to torture yourself with summer classes?"

He nods. "I'm here on a student visa. I may as well earn it." He takes a sip from his water. "And you?"

She shook her head. "This will be the first summer since I graduated high school that I'll take off. No summer classes, no S.H.I.E.L.D. cadet training. I think my parents had me checked to make sure I'm still me."

Sammy shook her head. "Nope. We split a while ago. I'm working with some friends on a renovation project, but otherwise I'm seeing what else there is to do in New York. Like Rooftop Films. And working on controlling ... you know."

He nods.

He gives her a small quiet smile, standing close.

"Thanks for not freaking out about it." The drink didn't have that much alcohol in it, but she was feeling a little warm. "I'm getting a lot better. More control. I can't be easily startled into one these days."

It was a near thing. The rush vs control. Both could be enjoyable under the right circumstances. Control won as she leaned in to kiss him back.

"I don't want to jump away." She met him halfway to the kiss and a tiny sigh of mmmm escaped with the shiver down her back.

The glass she held slipped through her fingers to the floor at their feet.
