A phone call over the city.
Misha's goal was to get acquainted with the new stealth armor as quickly and as thoroughly as possible. Not that he lived in it, or slept in it (he wasn't four years old anymore with a brand new baseball mitt!), but he was racking up a good number of hours putting it through his workouts. He loved the better interface with his muscle memory; the more he used it, the more it seemed to anticipate rather than wait for him to lead. The seconds it shaved off his response time could bring a lot to a fight.

And sometimes, like today, he just wanted to get out and go flat out speed demon fast. He was making his third pass over the city, in a loop that included most of New England and a portion of Canada (oops, forgot the passport!) when his amazing new armor put through a phone call.

The display inside the face mask read Stark Inc, which told him it was coming from the same satellite Anya had sent his new phone on after the Red Room incident, and that opened up a few possibilities. Most likely Darlene or Anya, but it could be Mom. He was on extended Mom service until after she had the baby so he answered immediately. "Oil change, burgers, or going stir crazy?" he asked, slowing to a relative stealthy crawl near the Liberty statue.

The trick would be seeing it!

Misha spotted the stranger in back from the air and left the stealth mode engaged while he got a good look. Had he heard something about the Dragon Lady and Mr. Rhodes having a dimensionally challenged kid show up? Maybe. Life had been pretty busy lately.

But since Stark made it a point to send Justin in his direction, Misha could only conclude that the man had another trick up his sleeve. If he didn't want to be surprised, he had to stay in the game.

Ten feet away, he became visible as the face plate shifted aside for the unremarkable reveal. "Hey, you must be Justin. I'm Misha."

Okay...Misha got him.

Justin about jumped out of his skin when Misha de-cloaked and his heart did skip a beat. He recovered, though, and looked Misha over.

"All right. So you've got some skill. I'm Justin Rhodes. Nice suit. Different from all the others, while working off the same basics." he says, already calculating modifications in his head.

Cue the raised brow. In another fifty years he could probably intimidate with it just like Dad. "It's a fresh build. Anya just completed it a few weeks ago. My old one is in pieces from a fight with the MLF."

"It looks great, man. Your old suit is the one I'd like to discuss with you and help with. Never hurts to have a backup for a rainy day, Misha." Justin says.

"So...can I ask if you chose the idea of a stealth suit or if you're part of something I shouldn't ask further questions on? It would give me an idea of what I can suggest.

Misha directed the suit to open and let him out. He compacted it down to the case size and was left standing in the undersuit he wore beneath it. "Nope, it wasn't my idea at all. Tony lent it to me for a mission, and then told me to keep it and put it to good use on my real job. Well, the other stealth suit. I ran into a mutant whose power seemed to be making the suit breakdown around me."

He grinned. "You can ask if you don't mind me killing you later." He paused. "Kidding. Mostly."

"If you don't get me, birth defect will." he grins. "Kidding, a little."

"I might have something that can counteract a mutant ability, but I'd need to work on it a little. What do you think of upgrading your old suit for more specialized missions? Better than just using it when your main is down.

How do you want to go about this?" Justin asks.

"Ahhhh..." Misha nodded, still smiling. "How about we start by me getting some clothes on and we'll have a couple of beers? If you're going to be around the family table, we better get to know each other. If nothing else, Tony can pretend we're plotting against him."

"Sure, I can hang out for a bit. Hope you don't mind me passing on the beer, though. Alcohol is a bad mix with my medication." Justin tells him.

When Misha's ready, Justin will head inside to the kitchen and grab himself a coke.

"Looks like someone went shopping today. Lots of beer. What would you like?" Justin asks.

Misha's dressed in jeans and a tee shirt from a bag in Mom's old room, kept there for just these occasions. On his way back to the kitchen he stopped to talk to Jarvis. What Jarvis didn't know wasn't worth mentioning and he wanted a little info on Justin Rhodes before he said anything more about himself.

"I'll take one of whatever's in the front," he answered. "Jarvis keeps the Avengers well stocked. Out in Westchester, you have to get past my dad to the beer locker. Takes a brave soul to do that."

Misha would learn that Justin is the son of Rhodey and Pepper, if he didn't know such already, and that Justin is from another reality. Misha would also become aware that Justin spent time in the infirmary, having been rescued by Anya and Steve.

Justin passes him the first beer available and nods.

"So...what questions do you have about me? You don't seem like a face-value type of guy."

"Jarvis says you're okay, but yeah, I stopped taking people at face value a while ago." He leaned against the counter and took a pull on the beer.

"How are you enjoying this world."

"This world is a lot better than the one I come from, to be honest. First, and most important, it's still standing, which my world isn't. Second, people here are still free to choose who and what they want to be, in most ways." Justin says.

"I like it here, but staying probably isn't in the cards. I've got to find a way to get back, which isn't your issue, but just a goal for me." Justin says, taking a sip of Coke.

"Can I ask why you and Mr. Stark don't get along? Did you two get off on the wrong foot or was growing up with him tough?" Justin asks.

"I didn't grow up with him. My dad raised me at Xavier's Institute outside the city. We've had some differences of opinion. He works it out by pushing my buttons, giving me a suit and making me a shareholder. I behave and acknowledge that we adore the same women." He shrugged. "We're not in therapy."

Justin nearly dropped his Coke.

"Xavier's is still standing here?" he asks. "Wow, I mean, I guess I should have expected it, but...where I'm from, the Government decided to take out mutants first. Xavier's got hit pretty hard before I was old enough to understand what happened, but once I did...yeah, it was bad." Justin says.

"Tony Stark is hard man to know at times, and I grew up with him. Or a version of him. He's a perfectionist, overly demanding, and believes without fail that his math on any situation is always right. The rows he, Dad and Mom got into were pretty legendary at times. He always had trouble accepting help, even when he needed it.

But he also taught me a lot of things I wouldn't have learned otherwise, and not just about high-tech suits, physics or engineering. He...taught me a lot of things I'll never get to thank him for." Justin says.

"Xavier's is still standing and taking in mutants. Dad's the mutant known as Wolverine and he was pretty sure I'd be one too. He settled there with me when I was a year old. Tony raised Anya in the city. We get along pretty well anyway."

He tossed his empty bottle in the trash and leaned against the counter. "Stark and I have our issues but I'm not so stupid as to ignore the man when he's trying to tell us something. If he's putting us together, there's a reason. My old suit is in Anya's lab. The new one she rebuilt for me is specific to my mutation. What sort of ideas do you have in mind?"

"Wolverine's your father. He was a big hero back where I'm from, but after Xavier's was destroyed, he struck out on his own. No one had seen him in years before I left, but there were always reports of places getting hit while the Avengers were carrying out other operations elsewhere." Justin says.

Justin was silent for a moment as he considered Misha's suit.

"Well, I'm certain Anya's set you up with a Zero-Point energy module already, which will power your suit like nobody's business and also keep your repulsor readings extra low. Once I see the suit, I had an idea for a couple of energy weapons that might help if you get caught in fisticuffs, but I'd need to know if hand-to-hand is something you deal with regularly." Justin says.

"Thanks to Dad, a generation of mutants can hold their liquor and kick ass in every major language," Misha said with a chuckle. "He's still an expert at covert tactics. That's just something I've seen him do in the past. Nobody saw him do it, can't prove he was ever there."

"I don't know what Anya set me up with or what Zero-Point energy is. I am in hand-to-hand combat quite a bit. My mutation is muscle memory. I can see it, then do it and better a lot of the time. With practice, it's mine forever. Much of it is automatic so the suit was upgraded to be react with me instead of me leading it."

(Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

"And your suit is built for stealth as well. Playing to your strengths is the best way to go, no doubt." Justin says.

"I'll find out if she's set you up with Zero-Point. If not, we'll get you on that and it's extremely efficient, power-wise. The suit will run longer for you, and the energy emission is harder to detect." Justin says.

Misha explains his mutation and Justin's eyebrows raise.

"That's amazing, to put it simply. And incorporating that into a suit makes you one tough customer. Okay...I had this idea for an energy blade that can cut through most substances out there. If you find that you need to get into, or out of, somewhere the old-fashioned way, it might be a good addition.

A miniaturized sonic-pulse weapon in your gauntlets would be a great deterrent, and a little heavier firepower to carry with you in a fight, without making you into a walking weapon factory." Justin says.

"We may also be able to get a bit more information- gathering tech into it, so that you have more control over the field. Of course, we'd upgrade your old suit to also react with you, rather than having you do all the heavy lifting. Perhaps the old armor can become related more to espionage and data gathering than outright stealth." Justin speculates.

"I'm not a heavy hitter. My team needs someone to protect their backs, that's me. Stealth is what suited me. I'm in, I clear the field for the others to fight, no one catches them unaware. I have my dad's healing factor, so I can take a lot of damage and still keep going. Regrew an eye once in less that two months."

He listened to Justin talk and felt he was back with Anya in the lab. "With the suit, I take an offensive position and cut down trouble before it make things difficult. I'm for anything that lets me bring my team back safe. You said you were looking for work. I can pay you, but getting access to the labs is beyond me. That's strictly a Stark thing."

Justin nods as Misha describes his role on his team, and nods, letting his thoughts follow their conclusions.

"Stealth and field control. Got it." Justin nods. "I think we can work together, Misha, if you're interested." Justin says.

"I also think that somewhere between you, Mom, Anya and Mr. Stark, I can get access to a Stark lab. Anya's already offered to help me with that." Justin says.

"The question is, am I working directly for you? That's going to help me determine exactly how much time I have to pursue upgrading your gear and rebuilding mine. How do you want to start this off? I can begin working ASAP, if you like." Justin says.

"I'm willing to pay, no question there, but as far as I'm concerned it's Stark armor and on permanent loan to me. I have to go to Anya for upgrades and repairs. It's not like my '71 Demon. I work on that with a box of old tools and there's no code or computers to mess with. You let me know when you get access and I'll make my suit available. Anya should have the specs if you need to review it all first."

"Sounds good. I'll speak to her as soon as I can, get those specs and get a look at the suit. Once I have my ideas in place, I'll let you know and you can yay or nay my presentation.

We get that done, and your old suit will be good as new as soon as I can make it happen." Justin says.

"You've got a '71 Demon? I love classic cars; used to help restore them when I was a kid, so I know where you're coming from. My girlfriend keeps saying she's going to buy one for me to help her with." Justin laughs.

"Thanks for meeting with me, Misha. Maybe we'll figure out soon why Mr. Stark set us up together." Justin says.

"Dad and I started restoring her when I was thirteen. Anya put an AI in it last year and now Darlene thinks she's a cross between my girlfriend, my reception, and my nanny."

"It could be as simple as Stark wanting some free entertainment if we didn't get along, or he's got something in mind. You have a place to stay in New York while you're here?"

"No, I don't. I've been staying at Avengers' Mansion while I looked for a job. I can't exactly bring my girlfriend around here without inviting some uncomfortable questions with answers I can't give out." Justin says.

"Well, if he's got something in mind, he could just tell us. Might be easier to get what he wants, or get us to do the opposite." Justin grins.

"My AI...is based on Tony. So he think he's my wingman, my old man, and the brains in our relationship." Justin laughs.

"Don't let yours meet mine or Anya will be far too entertained. Darlene thinks Anya can do no wrong. Anya gave her a tiara for a Christmas present."

"I have a place not too far from here. I'm out at Xavier's most of the time as it is. You're welcome to take up residence in one of the empty bedrooms. With the understanding that the family has come-and-go privileges, of course." He smiled. "And fair warning if your girl is around so delicate sensibilities aren't offended."
