Pomp and Circumstance
Bendy-timed to before a couple of days before Loki showed up

Grace fidgeted with the sleeves of her black robe. The gold tassel from her cap dangled in front of her face.

She was graduating from high-school. Sure, it wasn't the school that she had started out at, but she did it. She'd put in the hard work, and she'd soon have the diploma to prove it.

The speeches having been over and done with, Grace stood in line with the kids from her row to get her diploma. As long as she didn't trip, everything would be perfect. Dad and the Defenders were somewhere in the crowd. She'd even told Zoey to invite Avery along. Her Mom had flown in from Boston to see her daughter graduate.

Grace could feel her heartbeat start to speed up, as she got closer to the platform.

"Grace Elizabeth Danvers!" Her name was called out by the vice-principal and she walked across the stage, taking her diploma from the principal, a wide grin on her face.

When all the names had been called and all of the seniors had officially graduated, Grace tossed her cap into the air along with the rest of the students. Then, picking it up, she rushed off to find the Defenders and her Mom. Mom had booked a room at a local restaurant for them to have all of them to have a nice dinner.

"Do you feel any different?" Marlow asked Grace.

Grace shrugged. "A little I guess. High school is a pretty big stepping stone. I'm still not sure what I want to do with the rest of my life, but I enrolled in a community college. I'll take some general eds, see where that goes."

"Well, I'm here if you need advice," Dawn offered. "College wasn't that long ago for me."

Avery's been sticking to the outside of the group, as he doesn't know Grace nearly as well as the others. Still, when there's a moment, he hands her a card.

"Grace, I know we don't really know each other that well, but I wanted to say congratulations on your achievement. I'm happy for you." Avery says.

"There are some passes for Six Flags Magic Mountain for you and some friends, if you have free time this summer. Thank you for being so good to Zoey." he tells her.

Carol nodded. "You can take the first two years to get your general education out of the way. It will give you time to decide."

Carol had been worried about what kind of environment her daughter would be in when she decided to let Grace stay in California a few months ago. Now seeing all these people and the support they were showing for her daughter put those worries and fears at ease.

"I'm so proud of you, Grace."

Going from being some nobody librarian to someone who hung with gods and former Avengers? Yeah, sometimes the whole crazy part of her life wasn't too bad.

...Especially when one of the Avengers was the still extremely yummy Simon Williams and the other was one of her favorite writers.

Great. She was a fangirl.

"She's good people, Ms. Danvers."

Grace found herself blushing a little. "Thanks, everyone." Never did she think that she'd finally get the guts to figure out who her father was and go on a cross-country journey to meet him face-to-face.

Then again, she didn't expect that she'd get up the guts to confront her mother and kind of join a superhero team, either.

Ohu slides a wrapped present over to Grace. It's about a foot long, and about four inches on each side.

"The Ashanti have a tradition when a girl becomes a woman. She is taken off and told the secrets of womanhood. Then she is dressed, and presented to marriageable men."

He smiles at her. "But you are older than those girls who became women. And I cannot take you off and tell you the secrets of womanhood. And I cannot find you a husband, even if you wanted one right now. But I can offer this."

He gestures to the box.
