Dinner And Conversation
Of course it had to be one of those days where Sydney was running late for everything. Zoey was late getting to school because of some issues finding her sneakers this morning. Then Syd's car had issues and wouldn't start right away. She finally got Zoey to school thirty minutes late.

Which made Syd late for her karate class. She had things to discuss with the instructors after class, which made her late for lunch with her sister. Lunch ran late which meant she was late for a conference call with Mr. Stark and the board. The universe was just out to get her today.

The one thing she was on time for was picking Zoey up from school, but then Bryn was late picking Zoey up, which made her late for dinner with Avery on top of traffic.

Syd walked into the Thai restaurant twenty minutes late.

He understood her concern. Why did this have to happen now, of all times?

"This doesn't happen with any frequency I can predict, Sydney. Usually, it happens most and easiest when I'm sleeping. I see things, but I can rarely remember them when I wake up. But it's irregular. It may happen three nights straight, then I won't see anything at all for six months." he tells her.

"I saw something on my birthday. Twice." he tells her.

"I understand if this changes your mind about things, Sydney. But I'd never let anything happen to Zoey unless it happened to me first. Please believe that." he says.

"Just now?" he asks, then sighs in frustration. "The same thing I always see. This guy. He's maybe in his late teens, early twenties. Every time I see him, he's somewhere different. He looks a little different, too. I've never met him, but I feel like I know him. Or like I should know him, but I don't."

"Anyway, he's crawling out of the wreckage of some place, and he's worried about someone. Everywhere he looks, there's nothing but damage and devastation...and this intense heat. It's like...a furnace or something. But he's standing in the middle of it, and there's nothing but destruction around him." Avery says.

"I know, it makes no sense, Syd. I've been seeing this guy for a long time, and I'm no closer to knowing anything about him than I was before." he tells her.

"I just have this feeling something bad is going to happen soon, and no one's going to see it coming except me."

"I don't know what Ragnarok looks like, but if it's anything like Armageddon...yeah, that's what this looked like. I see this same guy in a jail cell, refusing to talk to anyone. Then I see him being shot by someone I know." Avery says, shaking his own head.

"One of the few times I haven't seen him was on my birthday, when you and Zoey were there. I saw all three of us together, just like we were...but it was different." he muses.

"Well, it was more...normal. Like it was commonplace for us three to be together on my birthday." Avery says.

"I hope that didn't sound as weird as I thought it did. I just...I don't have the first clue on how this whole thing works and I don't get enough information to know anything concrete. I feel like I'm being jerked around by fate." he says, taking the napkin from his nose.

The blood is gone, but the slight headache is not.

	"Oh, I wouldn't say they're all weird. But I will say that not knowing which Marlow is which is a little weird sometimes. And the two dogs getting along with the tiger is also new.
