Two days in New York City
Jenny was happy to conveniently forgot her scheduled appointment with Dr. Samson, but leave it to Rob to have it on his calendar. The day before, she was notified that she would be collected at 6am and delivered to the S.H.I.E.L.D. transport for the New York run.

She tossed a few items into her shoulder bag along with a new book. She didn't need anymore than that as Rob had kept their leased apartment in New York. Between his monthly trips back to New York and her infrequent traveling, he said it was worth hanging onto it. Everything she might need was already there.

A note was posted on the refrigerator so the team would know she would be in the States for a couple of days. She also included a post script asking Leech to make sure Yankee Clipper was fed. She really hoped Quinn would continue to be tolerant and not turn YC into a fluffy orange and white throw pillow.

In New York, she had time to shower and change clothes before presenting herself at Dr. Samson's office promptly at 3pm. Each time she had one of these appointments she hoped it would be the last. Each time he said he would see her again in three months. At least this time she would have something different to contribute to the conversation.

The rose had been an attempt at humor, and Jenny arrived just after 6:30 with a red rose picked up from a vendor on her walk over. Entering the cool atmosphere was a relief from the heat. Her years in London had accustomed her to cooler temperatures.

She paused in the main doorway and looked around for a hint or a neon sign.

Andy sees a blond woman with a rose and hopes that tonight is a lucky night.

"Excuse me...Jenny?" Andy asks. "Hi, I'm Andy."

He presents the carnation.

/Oh, thank you God! If he turns out to be a creep I'll be sorry to damage that face on a building. I'd still do it, of course, but I'd be sorry.../ This could be a really good night.

Jenny smiled widely and took the carnation. She then offered the rose. "It's nice to finally meet you. I'm glad you were free rhis evening."

Andy smiles. Jenny is definitely attractive, and he's glad she seems friendly.

"I'm glad we could meet up; I've been looking forward to it since I got your e-mail." he said.

"Should we go ahead and get a table?" he asks. "I'd like to hear about your day."

"I vote for a table. Sitting down with something to drink sounds lovely."

A table was found and Jenny didn't blame the waitress one bit for her doubletake at Andy. She want ready for dinner just yet, but asked for an iced tea.

"I'm still in UK time. If I have any alcohol I'll be asleep before long and I want to be awake to enjoy the evening," she explained to Andy.

"Drinks it is." Andy smiles. He doesn't notice the waitress' double-take at him, as he's not the type of guy who notices such things. Dad and Argo are more along that speed, but his mother taught him to be humble...mostly.

Andy would have an iced tea as well, though if he started drinking, he'd still be fine. Alcohol never got to him, unless it was the stuff on Olympus, and it took a lot of that to buzz him.

"How is the U.K. these days? I'm going to have to get back to London sometime. I missed getting my picture at Parliment since I was in a hurry last time." he says.

"I'm still congratulated for having the sense to defect from the States on occasion," she said with a small laugh. "I don't have the heart to tell them them it wasn't my idea, or to say no to free pints. You said you stopped through London on your way from Greece? Is that home?"

"Actually, a lot of my family is in Greece, so I was there visiting, but I'm American by birth." he says.

"Hey, free beer is amazing, and any place that offers it is worth staying in." he grins.

"Are you just working in the U.K. for awhile or is it final?" he asks.

"My brother works for S.H.I.E.L.D. He was transferred to the London office about three or four years ago and I went with him. He's my only family and school can be had anywhere, so when he asked if I wanted to go, I went. We still have a place here so I can come back when it's time."

"Ah, S.H.I.E.L.D." Andy says, a odd tone in his voice. "That's interesting."

He's heard his mother, and some of her friends talk about those guys in the past, as they were some of the people to hunt his second cousin at some point or other. Andy hasn't seen Bruce Banner since he was a boy, but he hears things, every now and again.

"Does your brother enjoy his work? What's your favorite thing about London?" he asks.

She noted the odd tone. A great many people didn't like S.H.I.E.L.D.

"He didn't bring it home much. I hope he enjoys what he does. I think it would be a sad waste to spend your life doing something you don't enjoy. He's the liaison to the Metro Police and seems to enjoy dating a wide variety of policewomen."

Yes, subject change. Quick before they lost the friendly mood that seems so very promising for the evening. "It's silly, but I love riding on the top deck of the double decker buses. Not only are the views better, it's a lot harder for some kook to get friendly like they can on the Underground late at night."

Andy is glad for the subject change and takes it for all it's worth.

"That's not silly at all. I love the double-deckers as well. They've tried to copy them here in the States, but it's just not the same for me. I'm probably the only person who thinks that, though." he smiles.

"And I know the kooks you're talking about on the Underground. A couple of them wanted my wallet on the way home. I was never so happy that my self-defense lessons came in handy." Andy says, smiling at the memory.

It was one thing to attack a guy and find out you knife broke "by accident". It was quite another to have an seven-plus foot tall green giant staring down at you.

Titan had had some fun that evening.

"Are you a fan of soccer?" he asks.

"Your kooks are probably not the same as mine. Mine wanted to grope me in a crowded car. Self defense lessons are a life saver." Self defense, hah. She hip-checked the offenders into the crowd and they were too busy fighting their way out of that to wonder about her.

"I enjoy watching soccer. Mostly playing soccer." Although she didn't just so she wouldn't have to confess to her secret. "Do you follow any of the teams?"

"Well, I'm glad you weren't hurt or anything. Some people have no respect for others, but a right cross or a left hook usually fix things." he says.

"I'm a fan of Spain, personally. Loved it there when I went. I've never played soccer, but it always looked fun. I'm terribly uncoordinated." Andy says.

That made her pause. He looked like he moved pretty well, but she was no one to point fingers and call shenanigans. Just pipe down and be glad he didn't seem to be creepy stalkerish.

"As long as I've lived in London, I haven't managed to make it out of the country. Except here every few months. I work in a bookstore while I'm in school so I end up reading more than I'm actually doing. I hope to change that in the very near future."

"You work in a bookstore? You are now on my list of Favorite People." Andy chuckles. "Seriously, I love bookstores. There was one in London on Bridgeport Way that I stayed in so long, I nearly missed my train to Greece." he says.

"I love to read, though. I worked in a bookstore when I was sixteen. Mom thought it would be a great summer job idea. I loved it. I was sad when the place went out of business. E-Books and stuff are nice, but I prefer the real thing." Andy says.

"And I went off on a rant. Sorry about that. What country would you go to if you could?" he asks.

"Rant away. It's a subject I can support." She swirled the melting ice in the tall glass with the straw. "I'm afraid I'm something of a throwback. I prefer books over ebooks. Hearing a voice instead of instant messaging. Touching instead of video conferencing. I had to give in on a cell phone and a laptop because the world moves that way, but nothing beats using your all your senses whenever possible."

"Wow. You basically just read my mind. I feel the same way as you. The world has just gotten so impersonal and disconnected. People used to walk everywhere, now there are millions of cars. Books used to be good gifts to give, now if you give one, you're pretty much looked at like you're crazy.

And text message is kind of annoying. I understand e-mail, but when you're talking to someone and they're texting someone else...that drives me nuts." Andy says.

"Talking face-to-face is nice when the company is worthwhile, like right now." he says.

"Now, if you could live anywhere in the world...where would it be?" he asks.

"This is turning into a great evening," Jenny agreed.

"Let's see...that's hard. I'd need plenty of books, good music, great food, interesting company... I'd say a villa in Tuscany would do it. What about you? What is your dream place?"

(Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

"Tuscany is a great choice. I'd need some of the same things you mentioned, but also a place with a forest where I could just get out and do some heavy physical work at times. Or just run. Good drink and company are necessary so...

I'd say Ireland. Greece would be a close second, but I've always wanted to see Ireland. I've just haven't made it there yet." he says.

Jenny paused again to picture Andy doing heavy physical work. Shirtless.

"And you've been so close, too. When it's time to get your picture taken at Parlement, Dublin is practically a day trip. At least a three day weekend."

"I'm going to have to remember that! I love day trips, especially if they're anywhere in Europe." he says. He could probably find a nice stretch of land to build a cabin there.

"I like a lot of the music there as well. Celtic Folk music, Jazz, a little rock as well. How about you? Do you ever get out to any of the clubs in London?" he asks.

(Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

"London likes its clubs. There are a few I go to that play everything from big band to Celtic, to folk and rock. They manage to keep from being overrun by dance kids and sometimes you can hear yourself think." Dance clubs were always dicey for Jenny. Too many bodies in motion and her power activated without fail.

"Why is a guy who wants to live in a forest living in New York?"

"Well, for one thing, my mother lives here. She's really good about letting me do my own thing, but I know she'd have some trouble with it if I were gone. I mean, she's got her work to keep her busy, but practicing law can get boring." he says.

"I don't like loud clubs, either. I went to one recently and I left after a few minutes. Granted, the place was great, but all the pent-up energy in there was really messing with me." he tells Jenny.

That and Titan wanted out badly, that night. He couldn't afford that in a crowded place.
