Moving Day
For someone who'd been seeing the same girl for two years, Jack was putting a lot of thought into which drawers he should empty for Kal. The right side, or the left? The right side or the left of the closet? What should he pack up for storage so she would have enough space? Did he have time before she arrived with her first(?) load of things?

He wanted to get this right, and he could just hear Kalypso tell him it didn't matter. It most likely didn't. Sharing had never been their problem.

Face it, Murdock, you want to make sure she doesn't regret moving in.

He went with the same side she slept on when she stayed over... the middle. Right where he liked to sleep, holding on to carry her into his dreams.

He put the first case on the bed and gave her a smirk. "Now we'll have to get it done so we can use the bed later."

"Silly man," she said. "If I don't unpack some now I'll never unpack." She picked up a box and sat it on a chair. She opened it and started pulling out clothes. "What does your parents think of me moving in?"

"Well," he opened the case. "Mom said she hoped I knew what I was doing and reminded me that if I insisted on making her a grandmother, she expected us to consider moving to San Francisco so she could have a hand in raising the baby. Dad said he thought you were a very fine person and that he had faith we would be happy as long as we were willing to accept the each other's differences."

"I'm glad you told them," she said. "I would hate to be curled up in bed and have them show up one day and wonder what I was doing here along with my stuff."

She pulled out some clothes from the box and laid them on a dresser.

"I don't think they were surprised, even after a couple of awkward conversations with Dad making sure that I was behaving responsibly." Things on hangers went directly into the closet. "They like you. Mom once even went so far to say she was glad you weren't Russian."

"I will take that as a compliment coming from your mother," she said with a smile. She opened a drawer and started tossing underwear in there. "I'm glad they're okay with it."

"They've always seem to have the uncanny knack of recognizing a no deal situation."

"It is a no deal situation," she said. "But they're pretty smart people."

"They are," he agreed. "I told them I love you and we're going to share the apartment. No room for discussion."

"That doesn't leave much room for discussion," she said with a smile. "I'm glad."

She put the rest of her underwear in the drawer.

"We should have dinner with them soon."

"Mom would like that. I want them to realize that they had a whole two years to get used to you in my life."

"And two years to realize that I'm going to be around for a long time."

Kal removed socks from the box and put them in the drawer as well.

"We can go anytime. San Francisco isn't far away and I'd love to see more of the city."

"I'll see when it's a good time for them." Jack gave up all pretense of helping and stretched out on the bed to watch her unpack. "Definitely makes it easier for them you can take us there and back in the same night."

Kal nodded and shoved the socks in the same drawer as her underwear. "I wish I could teleport as easily as Eli."

Kal frowned at the mention of her cousin. It had been some months since he disappeared with Iason and she worried about them both.

"What is it? We can always fly conventional methods. I know teleporting takes so much out of you."

"I'm worried about Eli and Iason. They've been gone for months and there's no way to contact them or for them to contact us."

Granted they were Eternals and VERY hard to kill, but it didn't stop Kal from worrying.

"They're going to be okay," Jack said reassuringly. "When they come back, I'll be sure to tell them you were worried and they better make it up to you."

"I know they'll be okay, but I worry," she said. She gave him a smile. "I knew there was a reason why I love you so much.

Socks were done and all that was left was a few tee shirts since Jack hung up the stuff on hangers. Those could be done later.

She stretched out on the bed next to him and gave him a light kiss.

He gathered her up close. "And here I thought you loved me because I'm double jointed," he teased.

She loved being in his arms. It was the one place she truly felt like she belonged.

"That's one of the reasons. There are many more," she said softly. "One is even the way you mumble in your sleep."

"I don't mumble in my sleep," he protested, dropping kisses across her forehead and nose. "Do you stay up and listen?"

"You do mumble in your sleep and it's cute." Kal shrugged. "I don't need to sleep. I like to because I like to dream, but a lot of the time I just lay awake next to you."

He hugged her again. "I feel compelled to apologize. What can I do to make it easier? I can start wearing a eye mask to bed so the light doesn't bother me if you want to read or watch TV."

Kal blinked and then shook her head. "It's absolutely nothing you do. It's me. It's a quirk with being an Eternal. We don't need to sleep. At all. We do because we choose to. Besides, it gives me time to enjoy being next to you and time to think. I don't mind."

"I knew you didn't get much sleep, but I never thought of it in those terms. I just like having you with me through the night." He kissed her softly. "I love you, Kalypso."
