Checking on the home team
Commander Fontaine, Deputy Director of S.H.I.E.L.D., made the rounds when the special ops team came back in. After their last disastrous outing, she wanted to make sure they were still in one cohesive piece. The reports had been favorable.

She hadn't met the newest member yet, though she knew the contents of his file. She'd been the one to have it sent to Sammy for consideration. Her little gun nut, and Walker and Dugan, could always use someone with the ability to build a better gun.

Sammy's report had been terse but informative. The others' a little more informative. Landon was next on her list.

Tech's eyebrows raise in astonishment at her admission.

"Were you scared? Did time stop all at once, or did it slow to a crawl and then stop?" he asks. He's been wondering something about her ability since he first learned what it was.

They reached the SUV and she hit the unlock button on the key fob.

"Actually, I had Dad's attention for a couple of hours and he decided it was time to learn. I was seventeen. A car came shooting out of an alley right in front of me and it was such a scare that my adrenaline went through the roof and everything stopped. Then it started again and I almost crashed into a lamppost. See, when it happened I took both hands off the wheel and tried to shake Dad to get him to respond."

"Your ability is activated by your adrenaline level?" Tech asks, intrigued. That certainly made sense, at least for a starting point, but how did one continue to activate those abilities after several times?

"That must have been terrifying for you. How did Colonel Fury react to your telling him of it? I've often wondered how people who are time-displaced resolve what happened to them in their minds." he says.

"Have you ever tried slow down time, rather than stop it?" he asks, an idea beginning to brew in the depths of his mind.

Scientific curiosity aside, Sammy opened his door and waited patiently for him to get into the vehicle.

"It was, and often. I had to learn how to trigger it without an adrenaline pump, and then learn how to control it. Dad didn't doubt me, but he didn't quite believe it either. I don't have the X-gene, I'm not a mutant. Since I was the only one experiencing it, it took a lot of testing to make true believers out of my parents.

"Then I had another set of problems to deal with. You know how it is when you're playing with a Jack in the Box? Once you know it's going to happen, then you're jacked up waiting for it. I was my own worst enemy with the adrenaline rushes."

Tech gets in and breathes a sigh of relief once he's at rest.

"Adrenaline can kick at the worst times, that much is certain." Tech agrees.

"You certainly seem to have it down cold now, from all the indicators I've seen during our work together. It has certainly been a learning experience working with you and your ability." he says.

Including a few embarrassing moments that didn't bear repeating.

She climbed in and turned the key in the ignition. "Thanks. Now, if I find out you're working on a device to keep me from slipping in and out, I will put itching powder in your sheets."

Tech laughs at the idea of itching powder in his sheets makes him laugh, even if it hurts a little.

"No, not to keep you from slipping in and out, but more to give an idea of your progress when you do slip in and out." Tech offers. "Of course, that's a ways off. But perhaps not as far off as I first thought."

What she wanted to know and no one could tell her was if doing this shortened her own life. Where did the extra minutes and seconds come from? Would she age prematurely? Did the Infinity Formula play a part in it?

"I will, of course, be keeping tabs on that idea."

Tech could have chosen to let that remark go, to simply smile and nod, but somewhere between the pain and the pain meds, his verbal filter has take some damage.

"Good to know. I was looking for a way to keep your interest and now I have it. My plan is now complete." he says, half-jokingly.
