Checking on the home team
Commander Fontaine, Deputy Director of S.H.I.E.L.D., made the rounds when the special ops team came back in. After their last disastrous outing, she wanted to make sure they were still in one cohesive piece. The reports had been favorable.

She hadn't met the newest member yet, though she knew the contents of his file. She'd been the one to have it sent to Sammy for consideration. Her little gun nut, and Walker and Dugan, could always use someone with the ability to build a better gun.

Sammy's report had been terse but informative. The others' a little more informative. Landon was next on her list.

	Jacob Landon looks up as he sees his younger brother enter with Samantha Fury. He nods at Fury, then stands up and goes to hug his younger brother. "How are you, Jase?" he asks, looking at him. "You look a lot better than you did a few days ago." He looks at Sam. "Fury." he says, simply, then returns his attention to Jason. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

"Hey, Jake." Jason says, returning the hug.

"I'm good. I feel a lot better. Sammy watched out for me back home." he says.

"I...I came to tell you that I'm not comin' back here after today, Jake. I'm still gonna work to help you get outta here, but...I can't live like this anymore. Some stuff happened back home and I wanna make a different with my life.

I got a second chance and I don't wanna blow it." Jason says. "I hope you can understand that."

Jake notes that Sammy hasn't moved from her position at the door and he's reasonably certain she has a weapon. His brother does, too, but he knows Jason wouldn't shoot him.

Sadly, his brother doesn't have that kind of instinct in him.

"I understand, man." he says, nodding. "I've been hopin' you'd stop coming here for a long time. You and I both know that my chances of gettin' killed in here are a lot better than my chances of gettin' out. I've made a lot of enemies, and you, Gran and Jess don't need that kind of trouble." Jacob says, looking at his brother with that thousand-yard stare.

"I want you to do what you always wanted, Jason. Go start that company you wanted or meet that Rob Richards guy." Jake says.

He looks at Sammy again.

"You're takin' my brother back with you, I'm guessin'. Is he goin' to be safe on your watch or end up with broken ribs or worse this time?" Jake asks.

"I just didn't want you thinkin' that I...just walked away from you or nothin'. I needed to tell you face to face, despite Gran tellin' me I shouldn't." Jason says.

Jason did not like the way this was shaping up and smoothly stepped back into his brother's line of vision, between Jake and Sammy.

"Excuse me.'He' is still in the room, you two. I'm not a piece of territory to be marked. Jake, Sammy has been really good to me since we met and I'm helpin' her team by goin' into the field because I /want/ to. I'm not bein' threatened or forced in any way." Jason clarifies.

"S.H.I.E.L.D. is givin' me a lot of chances opportunities we didn't get before, the main one bein' to help you, Gran and Jess all at once. So, relax, man. Sammy's one of the good guys. Or girls. However you wanna see it." Jason says.

She didn't scare easily, which Jake liked, but he didn't trust her and never would.

"Jason, don't let her use you up, man. It's what her type does. She'll tell you anything to get what she wants, and when she's done with you, she'll find a way to get rid of you. Keep your eyes open, Little Brother." Jake says, going to sit down.

"Otherwise, I hope you get everything you want. You deserve it, Jason." Jake says.

The strife between Sammy and his brother weighed on Tech greatly, but he couldn't let either of them see that. The best he would get is that two of them agree to disagree.

"I'm sorry that you feel that way, Jake. Don't worry, though. I got my eyes open and I know what I'm doin'." Tech says.

"I'm leavin' now, man. I hope that, if and when you're out, we can start over again without all the death and bloodshed we've got on our hands now. Jess and Hunter are doin' great, and I want you to be a part of that." Tech tells him.

He takes a deep breath before speaking again.

"Bye, Jake." he says, taking Sammy's hand and turning to go.

Sammy squeezed his hand in support, still not taking her eyes off Jake. Jake Landon had better hope his jail time didn't extend into her tenure as director of S.H.I.E.L.D. He had no business ever breathing free air again.

It wouldn't occur to her until later that she'd put Jake Landon into the same mental file along with Jake Fury.

Jake Landon didn't need a good bye from her. She offered none.

Jake Landon notes that his brother takes Fury's hand as he leaves and realizes that Fury already has her hooks in him. He's young and never been in love before, and Fury was playing upon that to control him.

He knows that Sam Fury is a killer, too, one sent to make sure that his brother doesn't think for himself or get out of hand. Jake also knows that Sam will put a bullet in his brother's head and sleep like a baby afterward. Gran already lost one grandson, and didn't deserve to lose another.

As Fury leaves, Jake does something odd. He smirks at her, watching her go and noting the way she walks, the positioning of her body and where she keeps her weapon.

I'll see you sooner than you think, Miss Fury. You won't ruin Jason's life. Even if I have to ruin it myself to save him. Jake thinks.

With that, he lets the guard take him back to his cell.
