How the West Was Won
A bright sun in a dull blue sky baked the earth below despite it being late October. The air didn't hold any moisture and dust was stirred up by the wind. The terrain was mostly flat and sparse of vegetation and about a mile west lay a silver-mining boomtown called Tombstone.

There was a bright flash of light about a mile outside of the town. Six very strangely dressed individuals and one white horse with wings suddenly appeared.

"Yeah, nervousness is just what one wants from people with guns at their hips. Charlie? Thoughts?" Vernique looked at windows, tried to spot any milliner's dolls or other signs of apparel sales.

""We're out-of-towners. This town's small enough to where everyone knows everyone. We don't want to draw more attention to ourselves than we already are just by being here. Ask around if you can and try and find out whats going on, but don't be overly obvious. Oh, and don't go starting any saloon fights, or anything that attracts the local law enforcement.

"No saloon fights, no starting trouble. Got it." Eli says, smiling at the group. Perhaps he could learn to play poker from these people. He'd heard that poker was fun.

"Aw, not even if some other girl's reaching for the last bustle?" Vernique jokes to Charlie. She spots what looks like an appropos store. "I'm going to head in there."

“Low profile got it,” Ryan said, “Still checking out the Saloon would probably be smart.”

The Mayor, John Clum, was making his way through Tombstone when he noticed the strangers.

"Greetings," he said with a forced smile. "Welcome to Tombstone."

Charlie extended a hand, a relaxed smile on his face, to show the Mayor that he wasn't going to cause any trouble.

"Charlie Rogers," he said, "My friends and I are passing through. Know any place that's good for a bite?"

Sometimes, a little smalltalk went a long way.

"John Clum, Tombstone mayor," he said and took the offered hand and shook it. "The hotel over there has some decent food," he suggested.

Vernique smiles demurely as she excuses herself to go buy clothes. The guy might speak slightly more freely if there isn't a lady present, anyway.

“Nice to meet you, names Ryan,” he said. He didn’t want to take any chances with his last name causing issues. “Thanks very much for the help.”

"Are you settling here in Tombstone or just passing through?" he asked a bit nervously.

"We're just passing by," Charlie said with a calm smile, "We'll stay out of your hair though, promise."

“It seems like a nice quiet town you have here,” Ryan said pleasantly.

"My name is Eli." the Russian says, unable to disguise his accent. He nods to the mayor, noting that the man seems nervous about the strangers.

"We do not plan to stay long, but we are hungry, as my friend says." Eli offers.

The mayor visibly relaxed when he heard that they weren't staying. He nodded. "Good. I'm sure you'll find food suitable to your tastes at the hotel. We try to keep things quiet around here and we don't like trouble."

Trouble was brewing and it was just a matter of time until something set it off.

Eli does not like the mindset of the Mayor, but he dismisses it easily enough. They need more information and clothes, moreover. He'll follow Charlie and Ryan to their next destination.

"Something's wrong," Charlie said, once the mayor was out of earshot. "You could just tell by the way he was acting. Ask around...try to see what's going on...but don't be too obvious about it. People are on edge enough as it is."
