Standing Among Gods (Defenders)

Franklin had talked about the prospect of moving in with the Defenders with his parents.  They reacted as he thought they would, but they eventually saw his side of the issue.  He figured it was, in part, because both of his parents realized that there was nothing they could do to stop him from doing what he felt was best.

Sydney, the den mother, had been informed before Franklin arrived.  He had been given her e-mail address prior to leaving, in order to contact her about when he was going to arrive.  Of course, it wasn't guaranteed that he was moving in with them.  The visit was just to see how he vibed with the Defenders.  If they had problems with him being there, it wasn't going to happen.

That being said, Franklin doubled-checked himself before knocking on the door to the main building.

"Mr. Stark did inform me of your situation and said that you would be coming out here. I guess you should meet the team and see how well you get along with them."

"I hope the rest of the team is as easy going as Eiltin," Franklin replied.

Eiltin had been politely staying out of the conversation giving Franklin and Sydney some privacy to talk. He had been scratching Ruarc’s head talking to him in ancient Celtic.

He looked up when he heard his name said though.

"They are for the most part, but you do have to be careful with certain things. Like for instance don't insult the Asgardians or their family. The results would be bad."

"I do admit that I have some concerns with you being here and what you can do. There are a few mortals living here, one of which is my daughter. Her safety is my first and foremost concern."

"Duly noted," he replied, about the Asgardians.

"I totally understand where you're coming from. Tony told me a little about the few mortals living here. And I completely understand that your daughter is your biggest concern. I still think, though, that this is the safest place for me to be. Your daughter has more protection with the Gods and other superpowers around here than the thousands of children her age do in New York, or any other part of the world."

"But not all of us on the team are of the super-powered variety, Mr Richards," Griffen says in a brisk tone. He too had heard this. He's actually dressed up today. He had been in a meeting with his adviser and had wanted to look his best instead of like a mad scientist.

"And my mother lives here too. We need to be certain that everyone is safe."

Franklin was caught off guard by what Griffen had said. It was true that not everyone was super-powered, of course. But they were the Defenders for a reason.

"Super-powered or not, all of the Defenders are capable of holding their own and defeating very powerful threats. The few normal humans who live here are more secure than the many who live wherever else I could go."

Syd was a little surprised at Griffen's sudden appearance in the room. She hadn't seen or heard him come in.

"While I do agree that the Defenders can handle a lot of things and I can see the reasoning behind Mr. Stark's decision to suggest being out here, I do have concerns. With those in mind, I suggest a probationary period of a few months. At the end of the period we will re-evaluate the situation and go from there."

"That sounds fair," Franklin replied. He was very willing to accept those terms.

“I could give him a tour of the compound if there are no problems with that,” Eiltin says looking up from Ruarc.

"That would be great, Eiltin. I'll see about getting a place for him to sleep. I think Hal's bungalow has an open slot."

"Sounds cool to me," Franklin replied. And then he'd be off to get the tour of the compound.
