When Out On the Lawn There Arose Such a Clatter
Christmas. Yule. Saturnalia. Dies Natalis Solis Invicti. Many cultures have celebrated and still celebrate a winter festival. There have been many names for it over the millennia. No matter the name it is a time to come together and celebrate with feasts and gifts with friends and loved ones.

Each culture has a legendary figure who would deliver gifts to children during this time. In Russia and some Slavic cultures he is known as Ded Moroz, Grandfather Frost, and comes not on Christmas but on New Year’s along with his granddaughter Snegurochka, or ‘”Snow Maiden”. In the United Kingdom and other parts of Europe he is known as Father Christmas. In the Netherlands and Belgium he is known as Saint Nicholas or “Sinterklaas” and in France he is known as Père Noël. In the United States we know him as Santa Claus.

No matter the name or who is delivering gifts, it is the season of peace, joy and togetherness. It is the season for thinking about loved ones, friends and those less fortunate. It is a time to witness the goodness and generosity the human race is capable of. It is a time for peace on Earth and goodwill toward man

The Avengers' Mansion was decorated and festive. Inside the Avengers celebrated Christmas Day. Outside there was a flash of light and six time and dimensionally displaced Avengers showed up.

A quiet voice carries down from a bit above.

"Yes... no matter how many times I see them, or from which planet, the stars are always an amazing sight, are they not? I don't get the sense that's what's on your mind though, cousin."

"You would be correct on both counts, cousin." Eli says, turning to look at Iason.

"I made foolish mistakes tonight." Eli says. "I have alienated Veronica, though I have no idea how to deal with the knowledge of having a child. I would make a terrible father, considering my own childhood.

And I made the mistake of going to Polaria tonight. I found that my father had replaced my mother and I...and I did not take it well." Eli admits.

"I know that this is not our home, but I cannot help wondering what I will do if I could never return to the place of my birth, my childhood. During the battle with the other travelers...my powers were turned back upon me. When they were my fears, both open and hidden, were revealed to me in stark detail. My father despises me for never being the son he wanted.

I always swore to myself that I would never make a child of mine feel that way, and I have managed, in just minutes to do Veronica what my father has always done to me. I did not meant to read her mind but...she thinks so loudly and she wears her heart upon her sleeve, as they say." Eli says, no small amount of guilt in his voice.

"She reminds me of my mother, Veronica does."

"I cannot see minds, but I can hear words, even from far away, and my time among the Skrulls has taught me to read faces as well as voices - a skill I have recently become aware of. If your own mind is troubled enough that having parts of it turned back on you can bother you so - then perhaps just seeing her thoughts does not mean that you know her?
If your father troubles you so - and understandably so, and it troubles you that he does not accept you, and last, it troubles you that you have not been a good father here - then do not become that person. The stars will still be here - or on any world which we travel to. Tomorrow, your daughter may not. Go and get to know her in ways your powers will not allow - and show her that at least some version of you can accept her for who she is. The only way you can do what your father has done is if you allow yourself to. She would like to talk to you."

"You are right and I know this, Iason. I learned in Polaria that I was exiled for having a child with a non-Eternal. Father called her an abomination." Eli says, taking a deep breath to quell rage that once again boiled in his stomach.

"She is a beautiful young woman, Iason. The Deviants are abominations. Veronica is just a girl. I can live with exile, and I suspect my alternate persona can as well, but it was simple malice and cruelty to exile her as well. She did nothing to deserve it and yet she suffers for decisions I made." Eli says, lacing his fingers together as he stands before Iason.

"I cannot let her bear that burden. It is mine to carry." he says.

"Can you honestly look at her, and think she's not bearing that burden already? I have the great privilege, occasionally a burden in its own right of being my mother's pride and joy, and being welcomed in my father's society despite being a halfblood. I cannot imagine the weight upon you in dealing with your father - but I can say this, you do not have to be a poor father if you do not wish to. You are caring, personable, friendly... people react well to you. You are also far more... human than I. And you have bad experience to tell you what not to do. In any case, the girl in there is definitely no more an abomination than I am. But she is lonely."

"My humanity, as it were, is the prime reason that my father despises me. However, you are right, Iason. I can choose to the father I was never given or continue his mistakes into another generation. And in doing so, possibly doom my own child into having the life never wanted." Eli says.

"You have been kind to me, despite the differences between our fathers. That is another area that I do not want to be like Druig in. We are both fond of Kalypso, but I hope that we can always be friends as well." Eli smiles, offering a hand.

Iason extends his own hand to shake. "I have been welcomed time and again, I have long time friends among the Skrulls, the Kree, the Shi'ar and others. With such blessings, I could be no less welcoming to my own cousin.... of course we may be friends - but we have eternity to be friends, cousin. We have a short time here. Go talk to your daughter, and I will keep an eye on the stars for you."

"Very well. I will do my best not to put my foot in my mouth." Eli laughs, turning to go inside the house and look for Veronica.
