When visiting Mom it was best not to go empty handed. A box of her favorite truffles worked pretty well. He made sure to stop and get some before he went into S.H.I.E.L.D. Medical. As worried as she was about Stark, she might not notice it wasn't her favorite vodka.

He knocked on the room door and waited for admittance.

"I don't know. Mom and Nick are playing it close, but the timing is too good not to suspect Ms. Donovan." In his head he's back at the party watching a stranger try to embarrass him by pointing out his bastard status in front of a senator and a financial backer. As if the world didn't already know after the coronation. It made him smile a little.

"Do you need anything? Water? A phone? More pain meds?"

Misha suspected his true purpose in this crazy family was to provide entertainment when Stark got bored annoying the menagerie living under his roof.

"I appreciate the vote of confidence. I could appreciate it more with a little advance warning next time." Because surprising Romanovs always carried the possibility of danger, even the one with the old fashioned code of ethics.

	No kid, that's just a side bonus. Tony looks at him like he grew another head. "I assumed you knew you got something in the will - and you'd try to give it back." His dad didn't raise him to assume. Assuming things only gets a guy in trouble. He's to protect family and team, in that order. Be kind to kids and barmaids, certainly. Fight the bad guys. Everything else will sort itself out. He does have a sense of humor, but something about Stark keeps it silent most of the time.

Misha gave him the two headed look right back. "You married Mom six months ago and you're already planning to die? She's not that bad."

"Tasted her cooking?" The sardonic grin then moves to a brief, genuine look of wistfulness.

"Misha, you really don't get it, do you? I've been dying well before you or your sister were even a thought. Every single day of my life I've lived like I was dying because I was. First it was from boredom and lack of purpose. After Iron Man it was because you don't get long good-byes in this business. The only time I give a damn about living to see tomorrow is where your sister is involved. I love your mom because, stubborn as she is, she gets that."

"I get it about Anya and Mom. They're two of the most important people in my life and if they weren't in yours by now we'd have some real problems." His faint smile came and went.

"But I'm from the other side of a lot of things, I guess, starting from dying not being a problem for me. You realize, you've undercut my best excuse when it comes to Anya and her nagging at me."

Misha chuckles a bit. "I didn't tell her. Now she gets to point out that I'm a major stockholder by Ms. Donovan's standards when she catches me saving up for big purchases from my salary working at Xavier's. Before now, she'd roll her eyes and try to get me to use my college fund. I liked my poor mutant kid story."

He reached for the bag; there was a double cheeseburger left and he was a growing boy. "As long as Mom's happy, I like you okay. Just don't like the big surprises sprung on me in a public place. I realize that this was one that wasn't supposed to see the light of day until you were dead, if you didn't change your mind first, but it was information that gave that woman an advantage over me at that moment. I don't like that. I don't like her."

He grows somber. "The fact she has that much access that quickly to my financials is troubling. If you're looking for an information leak start there. Technology I can control, or Anya can. Military contacts or other contractors Rhodesy, Pepper, or Scott handle. Money is a soft science. It moves."

He sucks in a breath and suddenly looks exhausted. "I want to - but...I -" It kills him to admit. "Can't."

"Can't not like her?" Misha asked as he took a pencil out and made a note on the pad of paper sitting onto of his pack. He needed to talk to Anya about this when he saw her next. All along he'd been assuming that for whatever reason had Stark for setting up a stock portfolio in Misha's name, it was a 'now' situation. Maybe something to do with estate planning and income taxes of the rich and famous. Oh look, here's a convenient stepson we can use to hold it in name only... If it was in Stark's will as a bequest, how did Ms. Donovan gain access to that?
