What If? All in the Family.
It had been a freak accident. Some kind of short-circuit of energy signatures, Dr. Vernard had said when he examined them. The point was that Jon had been dragged here with them from his own facet of reality, and his energy signature was so disrupted that even that dimensional teleporter Mrs. Stark had called in couldn't send him back there. They'd really tried everything, but had finally given up.

And then, there was the other thing.

"So... do you want to tell him?" Vernique asked Svalin as she sat holding her hand on the bed. In Svalin's other hand was the test, clearly positive.

	"It doth depend on what I choose," she said. Svalin was already going over the two possibilities in her mind. She could either be a woman or a warrior, but not both. 	He clearly doesn't understand a lot about Asgard. "What you choose? I mean, of course its your choice whether to have the child or not... but I'd prefer you did, even if I had to see to its care." Midwestern values with some big city sensibilities and all. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

Svalin shook her head. "Nay, it ist not that. I wouldst not terminate the pregnancy. The choice I must make ist to be a woman or a warrior." Svalin said down in one of the chairs.

"I cannot be both in Asgard. If I wert to choose to become a woman, I wouldst not be required to marry, but I may." There were other disadvantages to not marrying if she choose to be a woman, but it was not the pressing issue that weighed on her mind.

"If I wert to choose to remain a warrior, I wouldst be required to find a wife to raise mine children and I couldst still marry a man. I hath two mothers and a father."

Deep breath time. This is Asgardian stuff - big stuff, life changing, certainly. He's not of this world, or her realm. But he helped bring this about, and of the two of them, was the one who should have known better. He's not perfect - he makes mistakes. But never let it be said he doesn't do his best to own up to them.

"I'm here for you too. If this is what your society demands, I'll do what I can to help you."

This isn't easy. Does he love Svalin? He thinks so - but it isn't an area where he has much experience. He's not the type to wear his heart on his sleeve, or do things without thinking them through - except when everything is on the line - and this sort of counts.

He takes a deep breath. Its his kid. He has to take responsibility for what he's done. Likewise, he may well be in love. He's also not going to abandon Svalin and Vernique in general - it sounds like there's bigger things going on here.

"I love you... and that just leaves me with one... or rather two questions."

He takes a deep breath, and looks to Vernique. "Does West Virginia exist in this world? If so, is it in the same place?"

Possibly not the expected question.

He knew his dad had done this - and it seems, in a world where he has no real resources, the best way to go about this.

Jon returns, in just as much of a blur, from the West Virginia coal mines, with two pieces of coal, that he's used x-ray vision to ensure are as pure as possible.

"Ok, so as I understand it, you have two mothers... and you need someone to... take care of the home... so you can keep being a warrior? But can still marry a man... so... if that's right..."

He focuses, using absorbed solar energy to push his strength as he closes his fists, coal dust tumbling out of the edges as he squeezes. A look of intense effort crosses his face, he grits his teeth.
After a minute of the effort, he opens his hands slightly and intense beams of heat ray vision lance from his eyes, as focused and tight as possible, cutting edges and forming things just as he wants them in a ray as powerful as any laser on Earth.

In the end, the final bit of his efforts... he kneels, offering a huge, and perfect cut diamond to each of the girls.

"If I have that right... will you marry me?"

Svalin was touched by the gesture and it was sweet. Though she knew Jon was a lot like she was. Duty and obligation were big facets of each of their lives and she wanted him doing this for the right reasons and not because he felt like he had to.

"I art truly touched, but I want thee doing this because thou wants it not because of some obligation or sense of duty. If this ist what thou truly wants, then I agree."

Vernique took a breath. This... isn't what she'd figured when she'd previously considered the possibility of ending up an Asgardian Matron. She had figured on a guy. A really hot guy with old-fashioned sensibilities. It's harder to know what she's getting into here.
But nevertheless, this is Grown-up Time.

But she smiles, steps over, and takes one of the diamonds. "I'm in. We'll figure out what you two are comfortable with eventually." She winks.
