Dinner and People Watching (Friday Night)
Anya was running on time for a change. At promptly 5:45 she was downstairs in the foyer waiting for Iason. She was dressed in a little black dress, heels and her hair done. It had only taken her an hour to get ready, which for her had to be some sort of record.

They had 6:30 reservations at Mesa Grill. Six would have been difficult to make and they weren't in a rush. Mesa Grill should be extremely busy, it was a Friday night and dinner time, and would be a great opportunity for Iason to watch humans. Anya had to drop the Stark and Romanov names to even get a reservation.

She double checked her appearance. She wasn't nervous, she just knew that there would be paparazzi and she always wanted to look her best.

She waited patiently for Iason.

Which goes back to one of those things he doesn't know. He also has no ID, but follows her lead. "Same." he agrees.

"So what's your father's side of the family like?" she asked once the waiter left. She also made a mental note to have Mom take care of acquiring an ID for him.

Phew, that's the easier one to handle and explain. "Its a pretty relaxed society. Almost everyone has been alive for at least three or four centuries, and many of them for thousands of years. They know each other well, and not many laws are needed. Most of my people are also telepaths - I'm just not very good at it. So most of the time, its very quiet and idyllic. Everyone has their hobbies and passtimes. A lot of them like music, philosophy, xenolinguistics, things like that. With a couple exceptions, its usually pretty peaceful, with a lot of focus on a broad education and learning to focus our forms and powers early."

"That sounds really nice. Life is hardly quiet or calm for us." Though Anya knew if life were quiet and calm, she'd get bored very quickly.

"It can be. As long as you have hobbies. When no one sleeps, no one eats and everyone can communicate at the speed of thought, when there's not a big threat to deal with, there's a lot of not very much going on. Of course, that wasn't the case as much for me because I'm so young, and have so much to learn. Thousands of years of history that most take as common knowledge on one end of the spectrum, astro-navigation on the other."

"I would get so much coding done," she sighed dreamily. "Maybe actually finish some projects." As it was now, her life was pretty hectic and she had little time for personal endeavors. "Yes, but the advantage you have is that you have the time to learn them. You're not limited to a finite number of years."

He nods. "That's the theory, anyway. It doesn't seem that way for the first few decades, maybe a century, according to some of the younger people, less than a milennia old anyway. After all, a lot of this can't be casual study or you'll get lost in conversations. People casually reference people who've been dead for two thousand years, and you're expected to know who they are, along with all the major cultures, Eternals history, the pantheons... it gets pretty intensive, just more to learn sometimes for the first while. On the other hand, there's no finals. If you fail, you just end up looking really confused the next time people are discussing the merits of Chaldean poetry versus Ancient Greek."

"Still better than having to learn it all in a short while and then get tested on it," she pointed out. "Much better."

"Oh, I agree. I'm not complaining. Its a good life, though so far I prefer being out and about. I'm looking forward to being an Avenger, and trying to pick up a few more practical hobbies. Especially since I botch music so bad."

"Playing or singing?" she asked. She didn't think it was possible to botch listening to music.

"Playing. I haven't really tried singing. A lot of Eternals pick up an instrument, just one of those common time passers. I'm all thumbs with anything that makes noise."

"Ah. Gotcha. Some people are like that. My brother is. Mom has attempted to teach him to play the piano on many occasions and he's all thumbs. I can play, not so good at the singing."

"Have you looked into anything else? There's a lot of things out there to do and to choose from."

"I'd love to hear you play sometime. That's part of why I worked at it for so long... I love music, I'm just terrible at it. I have my father's senses, or something approaching them, so good music, nice textures... are really appreciated. I've been thinking of trying my hand at cooking once I learn what a few more things taste like too. Really, I'd honestly like to try a lot of things out and see what 'takes'. Given the amount of eventual time they have to look forward to, and the number of things they don't have to do, its fair to say that a lot of Eternals collect hobbies."

"I'd love to play for you, but I'm sorry I can't help with the cooking. Jarvis would be the perfect person to help you on that front."

She took a sip of her water. Was it really warm in here?

"There's a lot of things to choose from. Everything from painting to bird watching to surfing. Sometimes the hardest part is finding something you like."

"I've been going through cookie recipes and trying the ingredients to figure out about what proportion of what he puts in his cookies." he admits. "Same with a few other dishes, I hate to disturb him, he seems so busy."
He takes a sip from his water, studying her idly over the rim of the glass.
"Ok, so I think I'd need some ornithology to appreciate bird watching. I've done a little classical painting and some nudes. What's surfing?"

"I think at this point Jarvis would be delighted to be able to teach someone how to cook. He has almost lost all hope for us young ones."

She smiled when she caught him looking at her. There was also the blushing, but that was a given tonight.

"Surfing is a sport. It involves a surfboard, which used to be made of wood but is now made of modern materials, and standing on it while riding waves on the ocean. The trick is to stay on the board. I've tried it a few times and it was a lot of fun, even if I wasn't very good at it."

"That does sound like fun, but challenging. Maybe you could show me this sometime? What else do you like to do? Honestly, like I said, I'd like to try a lot of things while I'm here, hopefully for a long time."
He considers her original statement, then nods. "And if you think so, I'll approach him about it. I'm finding I'm liking eating."

"It is," she said to both things. "I can, but like I said I'm not very good. Though the instructors were cute so it wasn't all bad. Me? I play piano, beat up bad guys, write computer code, torment my older brother, shop, dance, beat up bad guys and work as much as I can." Yeah, there was no hope for her to be a normal teenager.

She nodded. "Yes, eating is definitely nice. There's such a wide variety of foods that one could never get bored."

"Hmm, well, if cute instructors is what it takes to enjoy surfing, you'll definitely have to teach me." he replies casually before another sip from his glass, trying not to take it too seriously, but a little flirting is fun.
"Beating up bad guys, hopefully, I can handle. What kind of dance?"

It was definitely hot in here and her face had to be the brightest shade of red possible.

"I will try to teach you. I'm better at falling off than actual surfing."

She sipped some water.

"I took ballet and jazz when I was younger, but I like dancing out at clubs." When she got a chance to go out. Which lately hasn't been much. Between school, work and the Avengers, her free time was pretty limited.

He resists briefly, but the reactions are fun, and besides, she really is cute. "If you fall off, am I allowed to catch you?"

He pauses a few seconds, another sip from his glass before continuing. "I'm familiar with the concept of clubs, obviously, but every culture's are different. What kind of dancing is done at clubs here? I'm familiar with a fair number of dances, but always enjoy learning new ones."

"Sure," she answered.

"It depends on the club, I suppose. Jazz clubs are good for swing and more traditional dancing while modern clubs are good for freeform dancing. I love to dance and don't care what kind of club it is."

"Depends on the club and what type it is. There are some we could go to like this, and there are others...well we'd be way overdressed."

The waiter arrived with their appetizers and Anya thanked him and gave him a smile.

"Ok, fair enough. Which is your favorite? The type where we'd fit in, or where we'd be overdressed? And would you mind showing me? I'd love to try it." he asks, once the waitress wanders off.
