On The Road
The private plane touches down at Logan International airport at sundown and Avery's eyes snap open as he comes awake. He looks about wildly for a moment, uncertain of where he is, taking stock of the people around him. He's been feeling strange since the other night.

He's on this plane for a reason, but he doesn't know why. Furthermore, his mouth is so dry that he feels like he could drink a lake.

"Water..." he manages to croak, turning to Sydney.

Avery rises from the bed and simply watches Sydney sleep for awhile. She looked peaceful and he didn't want to disturb her, so he slid out of the bed and crept out of the room quietly.

He doesn't quite understand that he's not making any sound just now as he peeks out of the room, but looks down over the hallway to see if anyone's around. He sees a nurse or two and flags one down.

"Mr. Crittenden, you shouldn't be out of bed." the nurse says.

Avery nods apologetically and looks the woman in the eye, giving her his best charm school smile.

"Do you think I could get a bagel or something? I skipped dinner last night." he says.

"Sure, I'll be right back with one." the nurse says, her eyes seeming to glaze over a bit. She turns and leaves without another world.

"Oookay." Avery says to himself.

	He's practically standing next to her when she turns to look the opposite direction. Once again, he moves almost silently about the halls. "Hi, honey. 	"They haven't seen me yet. Don't worry. I wasn't going to sneak out of the hospital or anything. I'll listen to the doctors. I just don't want to spend all this time in the hospital." 	Avery isn't really looking a gift horse in the mouth, but...damn. That's a lot of bagels. Still, he grabs a cinnamon-raisin bagel and takes a bit. It doesn't taste as...fresh as he remembers it, but it serves well enough. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

Avery did the same, but had to stifle the urge to gag. These bagels were /terrible/. They tasted like dirt, and that was being /nice./

He barely manages to choke down a single bagel before the doctor arrives.

"How are you feeling, Avery?"

"I'm feeling great actually. Like new, really." he says.

"Well, let's make sure that's right before we let you go." the doctor says, checking Avery's vitals.

"Well, your charts are good. We'll just need to run a couple of test to be certain. Be right back." he says, turning to go.

A little bit later and the doctor returns to the room, looking at Avery a little cautiously, before looking back to his clipboard.

"Looks like you're good to go, Mr. Crittenden. You're as healthy as a horse. If I wasn't looking at it, I wouldn't believe it myself.

But there's nothing wrong with you." the doctor says.

Avery smiles. "Don't look so sad, Doc. This bed can go to someone who needs it now." he says, rising from the bed.

"Can I get my clothes?" he asks, as another nurse walks in with them.

"Thanks. Honey, I'm gonna change. Be right back." Avery says, heading to the bathroom.

	Avery goes into the restroom while the doctor talks to Sydney. "Miss Ashcroft, if Avery complains of feeling faint or sick in anyway, please have him come back. Also, make sure he gets rest and plenty of fluids. I've never seen a turnaround like this, but I'd hate for it to reverse itself." the doctor says. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

	"With you? Anywhere." Avery says, taking her hand to lead her out of the room. He signs himself out and then they head outside. The sunlight is uncomfortable on his skin, but it's not terrible. When the car comes around, he opens the door for Sydney and they get inside. "Do you want to go to the hotel and relax, or get down to business?" he asks. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

	"Okay, we'll find this P.O. Box, get what we need and then head back to the hotel room. Then I will use my sexy lawyer voice to talk you into a few things." Avery smiles. "I sure as hell hope not. That's completely your territory there." Avery chuckles, relaxing in the chair.

When they arrive at the Post Office, Avery pops his briefcase and pulls out the document he'd prepared (read: forged) just for his occasion: a Power of Attorney statement from Adrian Carver.

"Well, here we go. Wish us luck." Avery says, leaning over to kiss her cheek, before getting out of the limo.
