Reporting for Work (Nell)

Cassidy shows up at the Consulate to speak with Nell, per Andrew's suggestion. He's given it some serious thought over the last few days, and helping Andrew and the Genoshans feels like the right play to him. He's been thinking over what he wants to do with his life and now, he knows.

Right now, though, he's here to speak with Miss St. Croix about how he can help with her work and, in turn, Andrew's.

Nell was surprised at how things were working out. People and corporations were actually somewhat on board with the plans she'd been proposing--though she suspected that many were doing it for tax write-off purposes and expected things to fail. She didn't mind that so much; things were not going to fail. It was, for her, that simple and she attacked the project with that in mind. There was only one thing giving her grief and that was the library.

Nell was stewing over the library issue when she hurried into the Consulate a) late, b)without her bodyguard (whom she'd managed to ditch long enough to sneak to a Starbucks for coffee and c) muttering to herself about her drink only having one pump of mint when she'd asked for a 'lethal' dose. When she got to her office and discovered Cassidy there, she was more than a little embarassed.

"Oh crap, how long have you been waiting for me?"

"The space is already set aside over in the new 'square' but the rest of it...I'm having some issues with the books. Firstly, no one wants to help and secondly...it's just us. Andrew's given me some funds. We're going to have to buy books ourselves. No one wants to fund the library for the freak town."

Frowns.

"I also have my own money. We aren't telling Andrew about that. I hope you're strong."

	"We're actually hitting a publisher's distribution center in the city. I rented a van. I'm picking up a few thousand books today and then some older books will be coming in the mail in the next week. One way or another, we're having a good library. It's that simple." It gets that way based upon how people elect to use and understand it. I refuse to see 'flatscan' as a term of hate just as I refuse to see "mutant" as a term of hate." 	Cassidy laughs at the teasing, thinking that Nell either liked mutants more than she should or that she was just a good-natured person that wanted to help people. "Gio is really cool and so is Angelo. I don't know how they all manage to eat all of the good food he cooks and stay skinny." Cassidy says.

"Sengai...is interesting. I don't know him that well, but he seems like he's a bit culture shocked. I'm hoping he makes the transition okay." Cassidy says.

"I'm not sure if I met Rikki, but why wouldn't she like you?" he asks.

"My guess is that she doesn't like me because I'm a baseline human, Cassidy. It may surprise you a little but the disdain goes both ways in the world. She's probably had a slew of negative experiences with humans. Now she hasn't said or done anything, but there was just this look on her face when Andrew assigned her to be my bodyguard.

"I always feel a little weird about being the lone squishy."

"Well, then you should take precautions...like not ditching the bodyguard that could help us with this." Cassidy sends mildly.

"Andrew thinks you're important enough to warrant a bodyguard, then you shouldn't throw that back in his face by trying to push her away. If he thought she wouldn't do her job, he probably wouldn't have assigned her to you.

But he thinks keeping you safe is a good plan, so that means you're important." he smiles.

"Just one way to look at it, I suppose."
