Twas the Night Before Christmas (Avengers)
Christmas. Yule. Saturnalia. Dies Natalis Solis Invicti. Many cultures have celebrated and still celebrate a winter festival. There have been many names for it over the millennia. No matter the name it is a time to come together and celebrate with feasts and gifts with friends and loved ones.

Each culture has a legendary figure who would deliver gifts to children during this time. In Russia and some Slavic cultures he is known as Ded Moroz, Grandfather Frost, and comes not on Christmas but on New Year’s along with his granddaughter Snegurochka, or ‘”Snow Maiden”. In the United Kingdom and other parts of Europe he is known as Father Christmas. In the Netherlands and Belgium he is known as Saint Nicholas or “Sinterklaas” and in France he is known as Père Noël. In the United States we know him as Santa Claus.

No matter the name or who is delivering gifts, it is the season of peace, joy and togetherness. It is the season for thinking about loved ones, friends and those less fortunate. It is a time to witness the goodness and generosity the human race is capable of. It is a time for peace on Earth and goodwill toward man.

Kalypso wasn't a shopper like her mother and never found it much fun. She took the easy way out when it came to gifts for the Avengers. Gift cards. She gave each Avenger a few gift cards to places like Starbucks, Best Buy and Amazon.

Jack was a little harder to shop for this year, but she managed to find a few books on architecture that he didn't have along with a pile of art supplies. In addition Kal gave him slips of paper that could be redeemed for trips to anywhere in the world he wanted to go.

Anya stopped by the Avengers mansion mid-day to deliver gifts to the Avengers. Each Avenger got a thousand dollar donation made in their name to the World Wildlife Fund.

With a large manila envelope in hand she went looking for Toni.

A rare occurrence, Christmas in New York City. Mom and Dad home, grandparents up from New Orleans, a quick break to check things out at the Mansion.

Toni could currently be found in the kitchen.

"I'm prepared not to discuss the issue at hand," Toni told her. It was a good strategy in general. Kept her blood pressure down.

"Well, you're getting more than that," Toni said. "Be back in a jiff."

She came back from upstairs in slightly less than a jiff, with a book that looked assembled from computer print-outs.

"These are all my Grandpa Frank's recipes. We are going to learn how to cook them if it kills you."

Jack wasn't a spender, but he did his best work when he knew it would be seen by others. Each of his teammates received framed sketches of themselves in action.

Kalypso received a silver infinity symbol and a written promise of a weekend away from New York soon to relax. He had a new sketch of her in action to give to Sersi when she came back this way.

Mom and Dad received solemn promises of a visit very soon.
