No Disassembly Required (takes place before Orochi)
"So, professor, your findings thus far are consistent with expectations?"

"Yes, sir." Professor Honda removed his glasses, polishing them with a handkerchief his mother had given him. "Agent Clockwork--"

"The subject, professor. The construct is property of Big Hero 6, not a recognized agent." The official corrects him harshly.

"...of course, sir. The construct's general construction has been completely mapped, along with the reports of the agents who infiltrated the enlarged superstructure during initial contact. My team and I understand it's mechanical operations thoroughly. However--"

He interrupts again. "--the power source and key to its mystical abilities are still unclear. Hence the need to disassemble the construct so we can reverse-engineer the workings. Your initial experiments in modifying the subject to allow it to speak have already illustrated your proficiency in the workings of it."

Professor Honda bristles lightly, but nods. "Yes, sir, but as I have stated in my reports thus far, while I maintain confidence in my team and our spiritual consultants' ability to replicate the abilities of the construct, the subject's sentience may be permanently lost."

"Immaterial. More of these units will change our great nation's ability to defend itself, against threats both internal and external. I will see to the construct being taken into the Ministry's custody. Ready your team. You are dismissed."

At BH6 headquarters, Clockwork is in one of the common areas. It had recently purchased several canvasses and related supplies, and had been experimenting with calligraphy, and some simple figure painting.

Imagination took some measure of practice, it was finding. It should be grateful, however. Many of the books it had read about... similar beings said they were incapable of coming up with original thoughts.

Well, so much for a pleasant evening.

"First, Clockwork, calm down, and don't mope."

And then the Ministry operative is abandoning his tea and his seat to hand her the sheaf of papers with, "My authorization. It's a simple equipment requisition," and Amiko begins looking through it.

"First off, Clockwork, being taken apart doesn't mean you're necessarily going to die. Although I'm noticing there's not a lot on safety concerns specified for this particular experiment."

She looks to the operative and his companion. "Obviously," she begins, "As Clockworks supervising agent, I'm concerned for its safety. As a mutant, I'm concerned by the nature of the project of itself, considering the mass-production of combat robots has been the first step by many governments in hunting mutant citizens down. But," she begins to demure, "as a loyal servant of the nation--"

The triumphant look on the operatives face falls as she continues "-- I'm most concerned why these 'orders' are all directly from the Ministry of Defense, rather than the interministry panel appointed to oversee BH6 affairs. Since obviously, these can't actually, therefore, be orders to me, I'm left only with my opinion that the whole project is stupid, and wondering if the heads of His Majesty's Government really even know it's going on. I do have the Prime Minister on speed-dial for a reason." The operative starts to fluster, but is met only with "Don't try to take my people or my stuff without real cause again, even if the two overlap."

Keiji says nothing, but is seriously contemplating how attractive she looks right now.

This is very good. She also had no idea that their government ties went so high.

It's a little scary and suddenly she's glad that she just deals with history and monster hunting.

All these agencies never did make sense anyway, and regardless what he had thought, Amiko is clearly correct. It is the way things are.

Any hope of help from the one BH6 member formerly amenable to their position evaporates rapidly.

"The decision has been made, please enjoy your tea." Because otherwise that would be wasteful. "And then I believe you know where the door is."

"I get the full day's pay either way." The armored car agent shrugs, although she does seem slightly tickled by this turn of events. "If you'll excuse me, sir. Thank you for the tea." She bows her head to BH6, eyes lingering on Hajime for a bit, and escorts herself out.

"This...." The ministry agent tries to gather what dignity remains of his visit. "This will be relayed back to my superiors." He departs, after giving an infuriated glance in Amiko's direction.

After the ministry official has gone, Clockwork cautiously approaches Amiko. It looks at her in silence for a long moment, before, carefully, embracing her.

"Thank you, Amiko-san."

"Mph. You're welcome, of course, Clockwork, but it's just sound policy."
