Something happened on the way to Comic Con...
Sammy made good on her promise. She flew out to Arizona to meet Tim and go with him to San Diego. She even allowed him to pick out her costume. What she didn't sign up for was the long drive across the desert to get there. For some weird reason she expected them to fly.

She fell asleep immediately when they left before dawn, only to wake up when she sensed the car wasn't moving any longer. It was hot already when she opened one eye to see where they were. Which was nowhere. All she could see was the highway shimmering in the distance and lots of flat land covered with scrub.

Sitting up, she covered a yawn and shook her head awake. "Are we stopping for breakfast? Is there coffee?"

Sammy returned to his bag to grab a pair of jeans. This counted as taking care of him, right? She was keeping him from getting a major sunburn. Uncle Dum Dum would be happy she was watching out for their Timmy.

"I take exception to the idea that I would steal from my oldest friend. I only borrow stuff you don't need. If you notice, I've never once borrowed your tools."

"If you want to know what's going on with me all you have to do is ask," he said as he shut the hood. He had no idea what was wrong with the car and wouldn't without diagnostic equipment.

"The only fun part about sun burns is having a pretty girl rub the lotion on you." Not that Tim ever had a pretty girl ever rub anything on him. He didn't do too well dealing with girls he didn't know.

"I'm not complaining. You're smart and you're interesting to listen to, and you're right, I need to know how the tech works. There will be plenty of times I'll have to repair or rig my own equipment in the field. It's just...our lives are sci-fi. I /stop/ time, Tim. Long enough to be a kickass assassin or spy, or to pants my best friend. I bet you go to these cons just to see what other next imaginary thing you can turn into reality. I bet you have working models of the Terminator's gun and Luke Skywalker's lightsaber under your bed."

He tilted his head. "I like sci-fi," he said. "I don't go to the conventions just to get ideas. I genuinely like that stuff. I like the stories." The women in tight uniforms or lack there of didn't hurt any either. "Yes, I do get ideas from the stuff, but that's not the only reason why I go."

He was so not going to comment on the Terminator gun and the lightsaber. He did have a plasma rifle in the 40 watt range and a working lightsaber, but they were his little secrets.
