Growing Pains
(Immediately following this.)

Mason Jeffries, just like anyone else in the world, has things he stresses about. Right now however, he's more stressed than most people would have seen him. He knows his parents worry enough, and some of the subject matter made him hesitant to try to discuss it with Nim first, so... big brother.

He arrives at Jordan's room only to find him apparently packing.

"...hey Jordie... you going somewhere... right now?"

	Mason shuffles his feet and puts his hands behind his head, trying to act casual. "If you have to be somewhere, that's fine. My stuff's not really that urgent..." Whether he just needs a break from the toils of leadership, or it's something else that Mason has really been hoping develops further, he doesn't want to interrupt Jordan's life over his own neuroses. "We'll start with the broader one then." He gathers his thoughts, then sits up straight. "You know I kept it quiet when I finished my correspondence stuff for high-school, didn't want anyone making a fuss, but... I've gotten back the responses from the colleges I applied to. I've been looking at chemistry and physics programs so I could learn more about what to do with my powers, and the responses have been great. A couple of them are even offering me full rides...

...but all the best programs are down South. My first choice, if I go anywhere, is in California." He fidgets.

"I just don't know if I should go for it or not... I mean, yeah, I want to do more for the world than just be a crimefighter, but I don't know if I want to be away from the team that much. Even if I loaded all my course-work onto one end of the week, that's still a lot of distance, and..."

He sighs and runs a hand through his hair.

"...and I wish I knew how you always seemed to have everything just... figured out."

"Oh, that trick? Its simple. After the point where I started out, and almost dying of the wasting disorder... everything else gets harder to sweat. Half the time I'm winging it. Seriously though... I won't say that we'll be all good without you... you've made a big contribution here... but we can manage. Don't throw your dreams away over maybes... go to school in California. Do what will help you long term - and when you're back full time, you'll be better for the experience."

Mason doesn't know what he wanted to hear, but that's at least something. He draws his legs up onto the bed and wraps his arms around them, resting his chin on his knees.

"The other thing.. is Nim. I'm worried about her, um, conditions.

Not like you're thinking, everything's been fine there, no other close calls. We're... satisfied." He clears his throat.

"It's just not everything... god, it makes me feel all twisty inside when she flinches because she realizes she's... Because it's nice." He trips over his words a bit, not making any gestures in particular, but starting to talk with his hands as well.

"I've got the greatest girlfriend in the world, and I don't know how to fix anything for her."

"I know that..." He smiles sheepishly at the affirmation. "But... I just feel like I should be doing more. Asking Mel for advice would be awkward... Mom would be too awkward for words.... you know any girls I could ask?" Half a second pause. "Scratch that, let me rephrase. You know way too many girls to leave a question like that open-ended. Do you know any girls I should ask for advice? I just want to make her happy...-er."
