I was drowning my sorrows, but my sorrows they learned to swim (Lena)
Tim did the one thing most people do when they didn't want to think; he threw himself into his work. He spent the past week in his lab working on projects. When he was working he wasn't thinking about things like feelings and whatnot. Life was better that way.

"Well that's better than not wanting her to ever find out. If you don't mind me saying, saying something, maybe not exactly telling her, but saying at least something might be best done now. As far as I know they haven't been going out all that long, if you wait too long Tim, you're going to lose your chance." She had no idea if it'd work for him but maybe it was better to get it out now and get an answer or at least have her consider it. But getting it off his shoulders might make him feel better and she did want to see Tim happy.

Lena laughed. "Oh Tim, I am shit at talking about feelings. I think I'd manage only to make things more muddled."

"Don't be silly Tim. You two have known each other forever, you're a big part of each other's lives. Even if she wasn't interested I really really doubt she'd tell you to take a hike. Regardless of her answer, she does seem to like you in her life. Wouldn't keep you around so long if it wasn't true. So I think hiking is the least of your worries."

"If so then that's a sad statement on both our abilities to talk about feelings. We are very much better suited to lab work," she smiles.

"If that happens then you won't mull over whether or not you'd have had a chance and we can send you on some death-defying ice climb adventure, meet a cute geek girl, hit it off and sicken the rest of us with your sweetness. Or you get Sammy. Either way better than thinking through 'what ifs'."

"Well, how did Val put it...it's like Drinkipedia. Get the scientists drunk enough and they'll give drunk science lectures and reveal secrets of the universe. Free drinks and curing the scientific ignorance of the average bar fly. It's community service I tell you! Did you know we were throwing out scientist names to see if any of them recognized even one and we got Nothing. Even with a desperate last-ditch attempt that involved Bill Nye. Nothing! I'm serious! You'd be a good recruit for our project, nerd science at its finest. And free beer."

Of course she conveniently left out that this last bar visit had been during what was supposed to be a psych eval...
