Not Creating the Universe for This...
The fruits were surprisingly Earth-like (blackberry-like, peach-like, and pear-like, respectively) for being readily available out here. Some sugar was easy to do, as she'd had a lot of practice with it. On a less synthesizing-oriented note, she'd really been working on these crusts.

And eventually, six pies are cooling on the racks of Jean-Louise's little stand in Knowhere.

"Didn't being widowed that much suck, even if you're used to losing people?" Pause. Blink. "Didn't mean that to sound callous, about your dad or you or anything."

"Why would it sound callous? Its the truth. Its why many Eternals separate themselves from shorter lived races, to associate with gods and other cosmic beings, while some, like Sersi and my father rather enjoy the passion of those with briefer lives. Both consider getting to witness, and somewhat encourage those passions a fair trade for the losses. Even so, my father sought to ensure I was prepared for an immortal existence."

"Yeah. Makes sense. Sheesh, if anything happened to one of my parents, the other would fall apart, probably even now, much less the way they were when I was a kid."

"For similar reasons and perspectives, I fear for my cousin when her fiancee dies."

Jean-Louise nods and sighs. "Yeah. That's rough. You want a drink of anything, even if not milk?"

"I'd love something to go with this, yes. Whatever you think best... that isn't skrullian milk."

She pours him a glass of iced tea. "It's been a quiet day. Always nice."

He takes the tea with a grateful nod. Its a nice change, especially from the scent of ship's rations. It makes me glad I don't actually have to eat them."

"Gotta admit, never much wanted to experiment with how much I did or didn't have to eat. I definitely don't live on cosmic radiation or whatever."

"Sometimes the options for sustenance are limited otherwise. There is some benefit to only heaving to eat when one wants to as well."

She nods and sips some tea of her own. "Plus you get to look like you do no matter what. Nothing implied by that; just enjoying the view."

He chuckles at that. "I've heard that before, yes."

It's good that he knows he's a walking sentient sculpture with optional breathing, so it doesn't have to get weird.

"You're a heck of a connosieur for someone for whom food is technically pointless. Not that I'm complaining; I can always use the market research."

"Its one of my hobbies." he responds with a small nod. "The family sense of smell and taste don't hurt either, I'm sure."

"Definitely handy. So, barring emergencies -- and knocking wood -- you could maybe go with me in three days?"

"I see no reason why not. Three days, then."
