Two Birds of a Feather

The warmth of the sun beat down on Gabriel's back as he flew high into the sky.  He'd had a few days to process the information Leech had given him about his mother.  She had... captured his father and brainwashed him into having relations with her.  To his very core, Gabriel was displeased with the actions his mother had taken int he past.  And to make matters worse, Gabriel's vision of starting a relationship with his long lost father had shattered.  Additionally, he had a sister.  "Should I tell her?" he asked himself as he reached somewhere around ten thousand feet above sea level.

"Just out for a walk, then?"

"You could say that, yes," he replied, "The skies have become much colder, so I cannot fly at the height I most enjoy."

"I'd offer to help, but my abilities with the weather are still pretty limited, but I can help a little here. You've met some of the others around the school?"

"Yes..." he replied, "A man called Leech, two children who were throwing mud and snow, and Lyta Worthington." And his gaze fell at the mention of Lyta, but he quickly looked up at the sky. He had worked off most of his issues with the situation from earlier, but he still tried to divert from facing the problem again.

"Leech is a good guy. The children throwing mud and snow would be Corey and Caitlyn Drake I'm pretty sure. Don't let the first impression fool you, they're good people once you get to know them. And Lyta is a sweetheart. I'd say you're off to a good start."

A brow raises at how the man's gaze falls. "You ok?"

"Yes," he replied, "I'm fine. Just had a thought, is all." He lied.

He considers, empathic enough to know he's being lied to, but he doesn't know the guy enough to call him on it, though the doubt shows on his face. On the other hand, he can be worried about the other students here, and noticed when the guy's face fell.
"Something wrong with Lyta? Is she ok?"

Lucas was pretty observant, and that surprised Gabriel to a degree. He was also impressed. "She's angry," he said, "And she is entitled to it. I just wish it could have turned out... better."

"It? I'm guessing then that the two of you have something more in common than very similar wings, if she's upset after just recently meeting you?"

"My mother and her father had an uneasy encounter," he explained, "I can't blame Lyta for being mad. In fact, I had anticipated it. I just didn't expect the exact reaction she gave to me because of it."

"She's a sensitive girl, but give her some time. She has good friends and a good support network here, and she's one of the genuinely nicer people I know. Aside from that encounter, how are you doing with it? Coming into that kind of encounter, and having to break the news to a half-sister has to be rough."

It was odd to talk to somebody he didn't really know about his feelings. Of course, therapist was indeed a job title across the world. He considered Lucas a therapist for the sake of the conversation.

"I'm dealing with it," he replied, "I'm not going to feel great about it right away of course."

"Of course not, its obviously something you put a lot of thought into, and were worried about. So to have her react so badly can't have helped. How long have you known about your parents?"
Being a dream-path meant studying psychology certainly, and as always, taking the healer's path comes naturally to Lucas, well beyond his years.

"That's the sort of thing that tends to take more than a few days to process. You shouldn't be too hard on yourself."

He was silent for a moment, and then closed his eyes as he spoke, "It's hard. I thought this would be a great moment in my life-- to meet the family I never had when I was a child. I wanted to make life so much more fulfilled for my own son. You know-- for him to have a big family to look at and feel comfortable with. But it backfired."

"No, it didn't." He rolls up to his feet and walks up to the man, laying his left hand on Gabriel's shoulder.
"You can't judge a lifetime by a moment any more than you can judge Lyta as a person by her being shocked and angry at learning so much so quickly. You want a better life for your son, you wanted the kind of family you never had, those are admirable goals, but they take time."

He offers his other hand to the man. "But I hope you stick around, because while there's a lot of very troubled people here, there's also a lot of good to be found. And as much work as it takes sometimes, a lot of these people have gone through hell and back with each other and found a family in the process. But they still had to go through those hells first sometimes. I can't guarantee you that what you're looking for will be found here, but there's certainly worse places. If you do decide to stick it out, let me be the first to offer you a welcome to the X-Men. Troubles and all."

And Gabriel took the time to think. He stared long and hard into the ground in front of him, reading through his own thoughts and measuring his ability to stand up with all the weight he had put on his shoulders. It was a defining moment for him, truly. Back home, he would have had one person to talk to about his issues, and she wasn't good at understanding his problems. But this man, Lucas, had given Gabriel an insight to what he had been experiencing that the winged mutant never came across before.

"Thanks," Gabriel finally replied with a shrug and a shake of his head, "I think... I think I'd like to see what kind of trouble the X-Men get into. I'll have to let the babysitter know that I won't be home in awhile, though."

Lucas can't be more than 17 or 18, but there's times he seems a lot older.

"You shouldn't need to wait too long, trouble is almost never very far away around here. There's also ample babysitters and guest quarters around here once you're comfortable bringing the kid around, if you get to that point. Be sure and let me know if I can help with anything in the meanwhile, ok? You can usually find me out here when I'm not in class."

"Heh," he began, "I think I'll wait before bringing son here. But thank you, Lucas. I'll be sure to find you if I need help again." And with that, Gabriel becan to walk toward the mansion again. This time, he didn't have unclear thoughts about what to do in the near future. Although he would still feel awkward around Lyta the next time he saw her.

Lucas nods, settling back into meditation, asking the wind spirits here to accompany Gabriel with a warm breeze on his way back to the mansion. Seems the least he can do that far.

When that bit of communion is done, he sets about trying to figure out where Lyta is at.
