Cait was finally done baking and was giving the kitchen a good cleaning after her marathon baking sessions. The past three days had been spent baking, baking and baking. Saturnalia started tomorrow and she had to finish the baking before then. Cait couldn't exactly go out and buy everyone at the mansion a gift, so she baked goodies. She knew everyone's favorites and made sure to include some of each in her baking.

She looked at the clock. Mom, Dad and Twerp Minor should be here some time this afternoon. They always came for the start of Saturnalia and stayed until a few days after New Year's. There was the obligatory visit to Grandfather William's, which they never looked forward to, but it was one of those things that had to be done. The best part was always the Xavier's Institute Annual Snowball Fight on New Year's Day.

Cait wondered where Twerp Major was as she moved water and detergent across the floor with her powers.

Amara smiled. "I'm sure we'll hear all about Corey's environmental science class in a moment; might as well take the advantage to get a word in edgewise."

"School was fine. I got all B's." Cait shrugged. "He's doing well. Though he still has a problem staying focused and on topic. But that's Corey."

"I was like that too at his age," Bobby said with a grin, "He'll grow out of it. Bet you like having a month off in-between semesters."

Amara nodded amusedly, clearly blaming Corey's attention span completely on her husband.

Then a warning tone. "Bobby, if you're trying to segue into a discussion of declaring a major..."

"Actually I wanted to talk to the both of you about school. I'm taking a break from classes and joining the Coast Guard." Cue parent reaction in three seconds.

Bobby smirked. "Who? Me? Would I really do such a thing?"

He then blinked at Cait's declaration. "Is this...permanent?

Aaand the discussion of Bobby's bias toward accounting would have to wait. ...Possibly for quite some time.

"The Coast Guard?"

"I don't know if it's permanent. I do know that I can't sit in classes right now. I may go back after some time, but I'm not sure." She nodded. "I want to be out there doing something, helping others, and the Coast Guard seems like the logical choice."

This has come as a bit of shock to Bobby, there's no doubt there. "Okay," he said, trying to keep the color in his face, "If you think that's what you need to do right now, then you go do it." It could've been worse. She could be dropping out of college to backpack across Europe with some boy she met in her economics class.Or something like that.

"This seems like a very sudden decision," Amara says with a worried frown. "But I have to admit, the Coast Guard seems like it would suit you."

"It is, Dad." She turned toward her mother. "It's not sudden. I spent the whole semester sitting in classes and being miserable. This will be much better for me than sitting in class."

"Good...as long as you're doing this for you and not because of some boy." Bobby folded his arms over his chest. "You are doing this for you, right?" He's pretty sure that she but...always good to double-check.

"Bobby!" Amara frowns more now, actually, at this paternal paranoia. "She's explained her reasons. She wouldn't hide something like that."

Cait rolled her eyes. Dad could be such a dad at times. "There's no boy except for Misha and you know I married him when I was five. I'm doing this because I want to do it."

She could really use some little brother intervention right about now.

Bobby laughed. "Good. I'm just making sure."

Let it never be said that a true artiste doesn't make his cues, unintentionally or not.

"Luggage is all put away," Corey says as the boys come charging back in. "We were wondering when we're going to open Saturnalia presents. Oh, and Mom, I have to show you my final essay for environmental science later. I did it on Brazilian soil quality."

"Did you compare it to Russian soil quality, since you wouldn't shut up about it when we were over there?" Cait asked. She gave him a 'thanks for the save' look.

"I drew some pretty good comparisons, if I do say so myself," He tells Cait. "Pretty darn good."
He catches the look, figures Telling has happened, and will continue full force. "Great! The ones from me are over here!" And he'll go grab the gift boxes in the corner made from 100% recyclable materials. As if anyone was expecting anything else.
Cait's box is bigger than anyone's.

In the meantime, Corey hands out the other boxes.

His mothers, for the record, contained some stone bracelets he'd made for her, his father's a book of humorous trivia, and his brother's a portable checkers set.

Cait's, of course, contained the stone fountain he'd made made -- well, except for the actual mechanisms. He'd handled all the aesthetics, trying to go for the sort of zen-ish simplicity Cait might like.

Bobby opened his with a grin, laughing when he saw what it was. "This is great," he reached over to hug his son and ruffle his hair, "Thanks kiddo."

"Your mom has our presents."

Cait returned carrying an envelope and a small wrapped gift. "This is for you and Dad," she said as she handed the envelope with a gift certificate for dinner at Mesa Bar and Grill to her mother. "And this is for you, Twerp Minor," she said as she handed the wrapped chess set to him.

She turned toward Corey. "Yours is a little too big to carry, but when you're ready, I'll show it to you."
